RE: Nitroplanes P-38 need suggestions for control throws
ORIGINAL: tccrab Have acquired a new to me but older Nitroplanes P38 90 sized ARF. I can't find any suggested control throws for this older Nitroplanes ARF. Digging around the archives I located the old assembly manual and it was no help at all. Any help would be appreciated. TomC
I agree Carlos .If you need a more fine tuned suggestion ram3500-RCU has some specific settings in his build thread on the Nitro P-38 90".http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6913969/mpage_36/key_/tm.htm . #893 . But each model will perform differently so the safe way is what Carlos suggested . I hope this helps.Dan

RE: Nitroplanes 90
Thank you DGM for the most valuable insite on the power plants for this bird. At this time i have TURNIGY C6364 280kv Outrunner with 6s 4400 bats. I have been flight testing them in a Nexstar to see how much vertical power i can get with various props before doing my maiden. These motors may perform better on 10s bats as they are desighned for but with the 6s that i intend to use just does not have the power for a almost 20 lb bird. I am looking into what you have sugested but i think i need to go up to the 1.20 50-65-450 Brushless Outrunner due the the wieght. It has been some time sense i posted any updates on the progress of this P-38 so here are a few pics and vid of my progress so far. I still need to put the finishing touches on her as for invasion stripes and lettering . Thay will have to wait to this winter , but for know i want to maiden her as is . Here is a before and after pic also a few others . Dan

RE: COMP ARF 110
ORIGINAL: Gonzalo38 I have decided to stop the build of my Corsair and go with the conversion from Hydraulic to Electrical folding wings. I was never too convinced with the system and now after seeing the video that have been published, I think that the electrical conversion is the way to go. Do downandlocked also make conversions for landing gear ?
A very good decision Gonzalo38. Mitch and Ron are the best in the bussiness IMO . I converted my landing gear to DL system for my P-38 . Great guys to work with . http://www.downandlocked.com/

RE: Nitroplanes 90
ORIGINAL: Duayne P I was wondering if anyone had put a gas engine in this plane? Like the DLE 20cc or the aerovate 15cc. Just wondering. You all have done a great job improving this arf, actually you cant call it an ARF any more. Nice job to all.
Hi Duayne. As far as i know i am the only one in this thread to use electric motor system . Thank you for the comment this mod has been very educational for me and fun. Here arer a few links within this thread that Bob and Gary are useing nitro and gas . http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6913969/mpage_6/key_/tm.htm http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6913969/mpage_13/key_/tm.htm http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6913969/mpage_34/key_/tm.htm Dan

RE: Nitroplanes 90
A little update on the progress. Today i got the panel lines layed out and applied . I am useing 1/64" chart tape to create them . The pics below don't realy show them very well but they are there . After laying out the the tape i applied 3 thin coats of primer and two coats of olive drab . I will let this set up over night then pull the tape off and apply one more coat of drab then one coat of clear . And of course wet sanding with 600 grit between each coat.. Also i decided to hide the framework lines on the pod with a few coats of filler. I am planning on getting her as close to completion as i can this week because i have the week off. Also for the scoops on the booms , it was a bit of a challenge to hide the plastic edges but i think i have it well in hand . Next is to put the panel lines on the booms and pod i should have this completed tomorrow.

RE: Nitroplanes 90
I took advantage of the gloomy day today and took the P-38 outside to do more sanding . At first i thought i was ready to apply the pannel lines but not quite yet. I am still pondering on leaving the stringers showing on the pod and boom front tops. While i was sanding the second coat of primer i was thinking maybe i should have put some silver pigment in the LS . i think this would have kept the wieght down a little and gave the same effect as applying aluminum under the primer. Some thing to think about next time . I still need to fill a few spots then i will start the pannel lines . I have on hand 1/32" chart tape . I have never used this method before but this entire build is a on going experiance for me . Dan

RE: Nitroplanes 90
Finally got off my duff and got some painting done . First i got all the interiors and hatch doors painted with Zinc Chromate primer. this went very well and looks great. Moved onto covering her exterior with grey primer. First i put one thin coat on all components then sanded everything down with 600 grit. Now all the imperfections show up that i didn't see earlier. Simply apply filler in the areas needed and sanded them out . Then put a second thin coat of primer on . Now IMO she looks very smooth. The LS coating i put on her really covered well . and saved allot of time and i will use this again. I am very satisfied at this point now i can apply the panel lines and other details . Also i need to detail the turbo hatches . This To see spelling suggestions, click this word P-38 will fly this summer . I hope everything works out for you Bob . I am still looking for a new canopy for this P-38 and still no luck. Dan
ORIGINAL: Mustangman40 So what's next for Big Hog and the team? Gary, do you plan on competing with the corsair again this year, will you continue to work on scaling it out more ( if that is even possible)? Or does a plane like this get retired? I have watched from to start on your road to Top Gun and have learned so much from you guys along the way. But now that TG 2012 is in the books, where do you go from here? Jimbo
Hi Jimbo.
