RE: Help. How to do a dowel rod wing mount
ORIGINAL: jaka Hi! Why! High winged trainers are best with rubber bands until you can fly!!! Then ...You can use dowels...but not wooden dowels! Aluminum arrow shafts (Eaton) is much better and lighter too!
Our club has about 5 trainers for use by our IP/Intro pilot. It helps to make a bit more user friendly and a faster set up. There is really not that much demand for the planes. When we do a big event hosting some Scout group or such, then the planes get a good workout. Normally most new flyers to the club have their own trainers (rubber bands GOOD idea). Yesterday I did a bit more color trim on one of the planes, which really helps for keeping left and right and upper and lower wing for a new pilot. Actually it helps my rather ancient eyes also. :) I'll post a photo later.

RE: Help. How to do a dowel rod wing mount
Hi SemusG, Yes I did put a extra piece of 1/4 lite ply to reinforce the former. It all came out great and my friend who owns the plane is very happy. I really like the way the LT-40 flys. I have been looking around to try and find one to use as my primary flight trainer. No luck so far on the various sites. I do not have time or energy to build one. >G<

RE: Help. How to do a dowel rod wing mount
The project worked out very well. As always these simple projects take way longer than planned. I got both planes converted, test flown and buddy boxes working great. Thx to those who posted tips. I did not do photos on the Sig LT-40. It was a bit more of a challenge because the dowels had to be mounted below the wing. If I were not so keyboard limited, I would do a detailed how to. Pat

Help. How to do a dowel rod wing mount
I have several .40 size trainers that I want to convert from rubber bands to a dowel rod/ nylon bolts. I have been searching for previous postings with "How To" but am unable to refresh my memory. Our club is hosting a large scout troop "intro" day and I need a more user friendly set up. Pat Willcox pwillcox@mac.com www.jetero.com

RE: Fund Raiser Sept. 26th with $12,000 in Prizes anyone can win
Hope it is a great wx weekend for the contest. I know the Jetero crew will do an awesome job and our field general, Duane LeRoy, has the site manicured. I did the Jetero.com site raffle ticket purchase and that was very user friendly. Wish I could be there but my overseas gig has me away for a couple weeks. Hope a fun time is had by all. Hey Damon, That be cool with the set up at www.jetero.com to buy raffle tickets. Took just a few minutes to list my info and hit send for my 18 tickets ($200). Later in the day the Club secretary,Beth York, sent me a scanned copy of all my tickets which she put my name and info. Neat! Pat Willcox

RE: Impact of Magnets on AC Systems
You might try the small velcro "dots" for this project.(ask for "Velcro" in Walmart, etc,), The "sticky tape" backing on the velcro is not suitable for your ever day removing of the platform. First select how many spots you want to locate velcro. Next trial fit with both pieces of velcro temporarily stuck to each other and place on the fuse spots typically where the screw blocks are located. You want to be sure your "deck" does not sit too high and not look correct. 5 minute epoxy the non-barbed pieces of velcro to your fuse. Attach the "barbed pieces" of Velcro on top of what you installed in fuse. Apply 5 minute epoxy on the "sticky back" exposed portion of the various Velcro hold down locations. Put the "floor" in place and put a few suitable weights to make the floor "snug fit" in its location. Be careful and use a a small amount of epoxy.Be sure and remove any "paper backing" from the velcro prior to applying epoxy. Also you might want to do a "test" project on some scrap material to be sure you do not have "too much" holding power for the platform in your aircraft. BTW, you can fabricate your velcro from "bulk" stock as needed if you think the "dots" are too big.

RE: Advice, Super Coverite patching
In days past, the tears if you can pull the covering where the material is almost touching, you then put a small bead of "Ambroid"/ "Testors" type model glue and it does a nice clean fix... Shoe glue (used to fix tennis shoes) thinned with acetone until thin enough to apply with a small brush makes a clean patch. Just cut a patch of fresh covering to overlap about 3/8 inch of the open bay area. I generally masked the area with the "blue painters" tape so that excess glue is kept to a minimum mess. Brush on a coat and let it dry. Now gently tack iron around the outer edges, gradually working the iron so as to get a good bond on the edge. Now use heat gun and shrink up the patched area. Refinish as desired if you did not use colored covering.
