Wayne- go back to the other forum and search "slipper launch". No kits that I'm aware of, but they have their fans in the UK.

Yikes but did you see the price? Two inexpensive but capable ESCs will probably be cheaper than one super-duper ESC.

You might also try Univ. New Orleans, which has an online collection from Higgins Industries... no idea if the pleasure craft are there. This link from Google wasn't working for me just now, but might later? Higgins Industries Collection Now Available Aug 16, 2006 ... The LOUISiana Digital Library and the Earl K. Grim, he said NON-military. Before and after PTs and LCVPs, Higgins built pleasure craft... cabin cruisers.

One more: The wire used in cheap earphones (ear buds) has 2 conductors in a single "wire". Takes some care to separate them.

RE: Wire for boat lights.
You'll need to scrape the enamel off its ends before soldering... I also like to strip wires out of old telephone and network cables- regular plastic insulation, and color coded too! Sometimes it's solid core, sometimes more flexible multistrand.

RE: Scale Boat Lighting Help
Most LEDs are very directional- light comes out the end, not the sides. Good for searchlights, poor for general lighting. Some have had luck getting 360° light by flatting/sanding/painting the tip, but not me. If you must use, say, 3v bulbs on 12v, then yes, 4 in series will do the job. Much better imho to get the right bulbs... for example, you can get 14v GOW & GOR bulbs from model train supply places which will last much longer on 12v. Then wire them in parallel as God intended them to be.

RE: Heat Issue
My extensive discussion on gearing is [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=700329]here.[/link] Depending on where you are starting, a geared motor MAY run the prop at about the same speed... because the prop is lugging down your too-small direct-drive motor, which causes it to pull more amps and get hot. The same motor will speed up with the gearing, somewhat counteracting the gear reduction... but it will pull fewer amps. Like magic!

RE: Styrene Applications in RC Shipbuilding
I use CA to bond styrene to wood. If using thin "plating", (.005" or .010" sheet), lay beads of glue where rivet or weld seams would be for beams/studs behind the sheet... the glue's thickness can telegraph right through. Bondo does NOT adhere to styrene and similar plastics... that's why they give you a plastic lid to mix the Bondo in! Try putties meant for plastic models, such as Testors or Squadron. And avoid gaps in the first place!

RE: Styrene Applications in RC Shipbuilding
Due to its flimsiness, I often use styrene as a skin over plywood... primarily to give a plate-steel look to the structure, without having to seal the wood. My tug Dearborn was built this way. Pat M

RE: where to buy deck railing??
No, those are railings for a big ship... he's after the shiny polished stuff on a yacht, such as at: http://loyalhannadockyard.com/ > Fittings > Sailboat & Racing Yacht, scroll half way down the page. For a 6 ft Cigarette, I'm assuming about 1:8 scale, a 30" railing will be about 3.75" tall... much bigger than anything offered on the page above. Wave, this kind of stuff will likely need to be hand fabricated... possibly from stainless rod, silver soldered.

I have a whole thread going on this at The Other Forum Which Shall Not Be Named, with KV values and everything! Can't link here, but just try Googling integy lathe motors, it's near the top. Note that if you want to use 12v, the speeds are different from what Integy lists. Oh and yes, many are using them in scale boats. PM
