RE: 2013 & 2014 Advanced and Masters Sequences
Fly's ok. It's not really a figure 6 flown on the left though. More like a lower case d, lol. Seems odd to have the humptys so close to each other and also the stall turns somewhat close to each other, but it flys ok. It's not boring. Not a fan of a high reverse knife edge. Didn't go well in the FAI pattern IMO, it was hard to see/judge properly. Still, it is what it is, I am not trying to complain. I'll fly 10 square loops in a row if that's what's on the schedule! haha Good job. I know a lot of work went into it. Thanks for that! Where's the roller? [:)] [:D] [:@] [:-] Thanks for the link! I got call sheets made up already. More fun to fly on the sim than the current sequence. Chris

RE: Dist. 7 9th Annual Bob
Not sure I will have my new Nuance by then Jon. Will have to see when it's shipped. I've been told about 2 weeks. I don't care if I have to maiden it the morning of the contest if I get it done. I will try to be there! Maybe you could talk Greg M into coming up and I could fly the Abbra. hahaha.. Chris

RE: Nuance
I had the standard wheels on mine. I never had an issue with them. They don't appear 2 worn after many flights for me. I may mount them on the MK axles next time though. Chris

I agree with Adrian. I had an Arial with a 140L.. 15x12 wide for braking. Chris

RE: Aries incedence numbers
I usually use the tail wheel as my reference Don. Should I try the wheel pants? Haha. Sir William, try 9 and 6. Or 2 and 7. You gotta set the batteries right behind the reciever and hook it up to the motor with no esc. Oh, and reverse your elevator and ailerons. Of course, if you run a contra disregard this, [:)] Chris

RE: D-7 Champs in Bakersfield
I look forward to flying an unknown at hopefully a few contests in the future honestly. I think it would be a lot of fun and probably make us better pilots. I could see the spring Bakersfield contest becoming a large 3-4 day contest in the future with many pilots from all over coming in to have fun. Now I gotta figure out how to get a Gee Bee to fly Mode 4! haha Or perhaps get something similar that I can put a receiver in. C

RE: D-7 Champs in Bakersfield
I personally think there is time for fun at other contests. I don't think some understand needing the time to perhaps trim, or practice till dark 30 unless you are perhaps in second or third place. Heck, even if you are in last, but you want to finish second to last. That counts just as much in my book. Seeing as the nats is so far from our district, not many go. This is our nats. Would you do other stuff at the nats? No. Not even if the sun was in your face. You would still fly. I know I would. Some may not get there till late on Friday and need those last flights before dark. That being said, I am all for having Unknowns at next years Arvin contest, or other stuff also. Arvin was a lot of fun this season! Now I am one that will probably need that last flight of the day as I will be hopefully have a new plane and be trimming. lol. So maybe my vote shouldn't count. lol Chris

RE: BJCraft Episode
I like the color scheme minus the yellow. Maybe that will be the option color. The plane looks awesome! Glad to see BJ Craft working on new things. The don't seem to be scared to try anything to get a good flying plane. Chris

RE: Pletty Advance disassembly
It worked! Got it apart easily. There's really not too many parts to this motor. There was some rust on the mags. Any idea what the best stuff is to clean that? The motor itself looks 100% fine now that I have it apart. The bearings are really bad. I can't even turn one of them. I guess they aren't sealed. Anyone know what bearings to replace these with? These are the same as what are in some other Pletts from what I have found. The number is 2412zz. I'm going to update with some pics also of the disassembly. Maybe tomorrow.. Thanks!!!!!

RE: Pletty Advance disassembly
I have a couple of Lithium Makita impact screw guns. Perhaps I will try that. Well, if I can find where I put the smaller screw tips. I'll try it with a lot of downward pressure. I could try to heat it with a soldering iron. Good ideas. Thanks! Chris

Pletty Advance disassembly
Anyone figured out how to take the screws out of the can perimeter so I can take this motor apart to remove the mud in it? haha The screws in mine are clearly "welded" in. Is it just me, or is there a trick. Thanks! Chris

RE: Nuance
Mine was canopy on. I was trying a more rearward cg for the past, should I say it's last 2 days and I really didn't like it as much as I did when it was a bit more nose heavy. I added a touch of positive to the wings also and had straightened the wings out to get rid of the aileron trim. To me, it made a big difference. I had noticed it rolling out on down lines because of the trim it carried at mid throttle for normal flight. John, good luck at the nats. Sounds like a very fun trip you are having! I love the nats. It's a great overall experience. More so than just the flying. Seeing everyone from different parts of the country, and seeing how they do things a bit different is a learning experience for me. I always try to watch the more "talented' flyers (of course the most talented are in D7 [:)] ) and take something away from their flights that I could see that would be an improvement to my flights. Take it all in, enjoy it, and have fun! Chris

RE: Nuance
I need to borrow some glue if mine is to make it to the nats.. Anyone have a few gallons to spare? Guess I'm glad I didn't have the money to make the trip to the nats this year. Went down in the tomato field while they were watering.. All the electronics somehow ended up a foot down in the water.. Imagine that. [:-] Sometimes life kicks ya when you are down. Today is definitely one of those days. Chris

RE: Nuance
Archie, I am surprised you need more braking in the Nuance than the Pletty.. I am told mine has a very constant speed and that the downlines are very slow with the Plett. Funny though, I was just talking to Jon Carter about liking the throttle response of the Hacker inrunners better than the Pletty. It's more YS like. I may try a 14XL again if I can ever afford another Nuance.. Hard to beat the silly power I have with the Plett though. I really love this plane! It's made flying much more fun for me. C

RE: California June 2-3 Oakdale 2012 pattern contest
We all wish we had a pic of that Tony!!!!!!! lol Was a great time.. The SPA was a blast.. It took up a lot of time (as it did in Arvin), but fortunately, not many showed up so we had time to spare.. Kinda shocked by the low turnout. Makes me wonder if we really do want to do it next year. I know I don't want to do it again if we only get 14 pilots. Dick Beldon puts in money anyways out of his own pocket to pay the club extra. And that's when we have a normal turnout. I can't afford to do that if I CD so I will have to think about it when the time comes. Jacob, quit trying to make me crash my plane! hahaha No more stupid super low passes or horizon to horizon passes on the deck! Well, unless you dare me to again.. hahaha Was great to see you! Thank you for coming out (Steve also)... Lets practice up on FAI bro.. Time to move up for us both! I heard Jon Carter is going to move up to FAI also.. [:D] Chris

RE: Nuance
Dave, Glad to hear yours arrived.. Hopefully our chat lets you know that I was honest about it as Mike says the same thing here.. It really is a good plane with very little mixing. With the rear cg, sure, it likes to fly slower. But it will liven up a bit with a more forward cg. A 20x15 is pretty good for going faster also and still has plenty up upline and over the top pull as the plane is very light. I run that and a 21x14 Falcon. If you need any pics of how anything is done, message me and I'll send em to ya. As far as the Advance, it is worth waiting for. But at this weight, your current Pletty would be fine! Hopefully you can get the Advance soon. It's that good! Chris

RE: What's going on with the NSRCA?
I'll just say this, it isn't as easy for the editor to just send stuff in and publish the magazine.. Or that easy to get it changed around. It's a very time consuming situation back and forth several times to get things just right so that the magazine can be published. And published at the publishers time frame. And also sent out at their time frame. Maybe if people were more patient when they didn't understand what goes on, situations like this wouldn't arise! If you want things changed in the NSRCA, then run for a position! If not, deal with what you have with respect for those doing the job. You have a organization run by volunteers! Volunteers who also have a life. Geez.. Such a lack of appreciation for things done for you by volunteers.. Amazing! Chris

RE: 18th Pattern by the Bay Contest - Richmond, CA
Thank you Derek for CD'ing this contest for so long! You are a great asset to our sport. It takes a lot of dedication to do everything that you have done for pattern for so long.. It's appreciated! Also a big thanks goes out to Adrian for all his hard work as always! It's also appreciated! Sad to realize after I put my plane away after the 5th round that I had just flown my last flight at BARCS. Almost made me want to go ahead and fly the 6th and also a few more after the contest as it was perfect weather and the view of the bay is so hard to beat. The field and contest will be missed!!!! RE: 1st Annual Bakersfield D7 Spring Pattern Bash
Hey Jim O... You thought my pace was good with the Nuance? I just added a bit of right thrust to it and I didn't know it, but I had a 20x15 on it from the last flight I flew it at the Victorville contest in the super wind we had there. I think the 21x14 is a better prop for less wind.. Still, it had an ok pace IMO.. Just thought it funny as I had read your post.. Hope all is well. C ya at a contest soon hopefully! C
