RE: Battlefield Factory Smoke Test
The Seuthe Railroad smoker does great. Only drawback is the 3.6V AA batteries to supply the required voltage to kick off the smoke. Batteries from Ebay...naturally Chinese, but they hold up pretty well. It gives a 25-30 minute smoke time before refills and recharge takes about 30 minutes. Uses standard RR smoke.

RE: Screw Holes on top of Fenders on Tamiya M26
Question is which holes. The Pershing had 4 mounting holes on the right front for the horn bracket and all track guard (fender) end quarters should have holes for the braces which are used on Korean era Pershings, not WW II. (Most of these were welded in place, but some were bolted on.) There should be bolt holes along the sides for the skirts, which in most units were discarded or folded up for MG ammo stowage in Korea.

RE: Battlefield Factory Smoke Test
Thanks Charlie, This idea has been brought up before, to have the DBU actuate the smoker and designate a kill....but looks as if no one carried it far. I don't do electronic work so wouldn't know where to start. Closest I got was to have Don help me installing a smoker set up in my Syrian Pz IV for an IDF target. When the turret traverses with gun over the LF ,2 micro switches are activated, starting the smoker and flashing lights in the turret, It's the same style RR smoker. I have a high volume smoker in my Egyptian T-100 but need more smoke for that huge turret. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7zTzvC2QCU&feature=plcp

The RR smoker is great to simulate a dead tank. Only problem is requirement for much stronger AA batteries. I use it with my NKPA T-34/85 and it always gets some nice comments. Here it is with my M-46. Not quite tactically correct, but shows what I wanted to portray and easy to set up. What is the cost of a boat smoke such as you use and power source? I have a high volume smoker in my T-100 and would like more smoke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvzvmEK0fwA Bill

RE: T-90MC
Interesting tank and very much improved. It seems to have the same problem as T-72 designs.....the driver can get in-out only if the turret is traversed with gun forward and auto loaders are still used. These have been proven to be extremely dangerous to crews as well as being a problem with malfunctions and jamming. Turret is still very cramped which leads to crew fatigue, which makes the crew combat innefective over a short time period. T-90 vs Abrams video is a typical propaganda release with a lot of Bravo Sierra and misinformation. I'd still take the Abrams or leo.

RE: Off topic - rant
Unfortunately it's a geographical quirk. Here in SC, people seem to have a need of pronouncing everything in contradiction to the Webster dictionary. They sell IN-surance, not in-SHUR-ance, you eat an ERnge, not an orange, a popular name in Michaelis, normally pronounced Mi-kay-les is MIKe-a -lis , Kinnard, normally Kin-NARD is KIYE-nerd, Geiger, a very well known German name, pronounced GUY-ger, is here, GEE-ger. THE, when preceding a vowel or vowel sounding word is THEE, but here, it's THUH apple, THUH Earth....etc. The school system is rapidly deterriorating so no corrections are made, if even it is known to the teacher. Family school help is all but gone, outside of families who choose to home school their children. If the child learns in school; "I don't have any", and all he/she hears at home is "Ah ain't got none" where are we heading? [:'(] Check it out....these children want to grow up and be managers or CEOs. [:@] Maybe they will get a job writing assembly directions in China or Pakistan.[8|]

RE: Off topic - rant
Jerry, you hit it. Some of the posts show a dire lack of English schooling. Bad enough to listen to Radio-TV announcers speaking about "THUH atmosphere" or selling "IN-surance". However, American on the other hand, is a very difficult and overly complicated language due to the thousands of foreign words incorporated into the former English language, combined with the sad fact that our schools and under qualified teachers are down grading everything with very little emphasis being on speaking properly. The integration of so much slang and accepted "street language" phrases into daily speaking and parents unable or unwilling to make corrections puts many younger people in a very awkward situation when applying for a higher level job. Now, they have to go to special schools or seminars to show them how to properly formulate resumes and how to speak. It's not a personal thing, but rather our modern society. There are so many differences between English and American, most European countries offer seperate language courses. I hope your post has made people aware of some common mistakes without injuring personal feelings. As if English/American grammar isn't intricate enough, try German or Hebrew.[:@]

Never could stand those Airfix 1;72 things. Rubber band tracks that never seem to sit right or lock together. Had to build a couple dioramas on that scale and it was twice the work as with 1;35. They do make good targets for a 22 or 177 pellet gun.[8|]

RE: Cheap Heng Long's Disappearing?
Modelling has gone through some emmense changes. Modelbob tagged it....what used to be a kids hobby is now the "bigger kids" fun thing. I remember my first model...back in 1946/7??? a solid balsa model of an F-4F Wildcat that cost my dad a whopping 30 cents (Hey, that was standard hourly wage.) and glue for about a nickel. Then a balsa and paper flying Piper Cub that set my dad back around 75 cents. Tanks weren't even thought of as models back tnen, other that the plastic HO size "made in Occupied Japan" or the German made sheet metal wind up Pz II and white metal English Whippets. Later in late 1951-52 I built a wooden Tiger of probably around 1'35-45 scale and I think that cost somewhere around $2 or 3. But to look at the stuff now on the market thanks to or plastic technology, it's unreal. ..as are the prices.[:@] I recently built a diorama with a 1940s wooden/cardboard 60" 1/2 inch "scale" Searchlight kit. The kit did not include the generator or sound amp units, so they had to be scratch made....as about 50% of the wooden kit and hacking up some figures to get them somewhere within the odd scale of the searchlight. The interrior mirror was also not included. It really makes you appreciate our moden kits. Anyone else out there to have lucked out and got any of these featureless older models...or maybe some older guys like me still remember ther "quasi realistic" oddball scale model kits we used to get?

RE: T-34/76 & T-34/85 Showcase
I only had 3. One WSN static I got for conversion to T-34/76, which became my OT-34, one HL powered T-34/85 for my former Korean adversary and the scraps from both made up the "burning" version. I did a Pz IV the same way for a smoker, dressed up as a Syrian tank as a mobile target for my IDF tanks. RR smokers are touchy as it requires 4 3.8 V AA batteries (chinese) and a seperate 9V battery for the flashing lights and micro switches that kick off the smoker when the turret is traversed to a specific point over the LF fender. My Egyptian T-100 uses a high volume smoker which is powered by the tank battery and also triggered by a micro switch about the same location, near the light. The HV smoker takes a few seconds to kick out smoke, but the RR smoke chimney is nearly immediate. Don had originally set up blinking lights in the burning version, but it turned out not very realistic so I disconnected them. It would be interesting to see how many variations of the Pz III are out there. I had 8.

RE: Cheap Heng Long's Disappearing?
Cheap stuff is gone. A few years ago I needed a HL M-26 "bareback" for a chop-up cutaway to build up the interrior for a museum display. I got one damaged-unrepairable from HL in CA with no TX...I paid shipping cost and nothing else. They were happy to sell it and I just had to gut it and make a couple cosmetic repairs. The tank looks as if it was NOB. Now the people won't even reply and they changed the phone number.[:'(] To do this again would run me as much as buying a new one. BigMig is right on...even EBay is off the price scale..if it's cheap, the shipping makes up for any saving[:'(] I think HL is starting to wake up to the value of the tanks for modeling and conversions.[X(]

RE: T-34/76 & T-34/85 Showcase
T-34 is like the Pz III, lots of possibilities. Here's my T-34/85 modelled after a tank of the NKPA 3d Inf Div Korea 1951 set up with HL and DBU. OT-34 flame tank with flame(water) gun in the bow as was standard for this tank. Gun could reach out 9 feet. Utube video of washing down Danas Sherman. [X(] T-34/85 burning....effects from a railroad smoker, battery operated. Battery pack and smoker chimney placed under the tank so that the smoke rose through the turret and engine compartment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvTv24_l-M0&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvzvmEK0fwA&feature=plcp Utube videos show both in action. last photos show damage common to a burned tank..suspension collapsed, anything not steel burned, sheet metal bent upward from explosions. The "burning" T-34 always is a hit, but tends to make the premisis owners a bit nervous.[:D]

Fantastic area you have set up. Obviously has taken a lot of hours and dedication. Miss the dust being kicked up from the lead tank but interval was very proper. Only thing that really disturbed the video was the jolly green giants looking over the hill and the constant idle of the engine instead of revving up. Otherwise very realistic.
