RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
I have a great deal of respect for the Sig company, their devotion to providing quality kits with excellent instructions is unmatched IMO. I prefer to order directly through Sig, too. Long live Sig, one of the last true hobbyist companies left! I have, or have built, Scamp Supersport Colt LT-40 Kougar Astro Hog 1/3 Scale Spacewalker

RE: Why don't we have more 4 stroke gassers?
ORIGINAL: vertical grimmace More weight and less power are not always such a bad thing. Especially for a WW1 scale model. The ability to spin a bigger prop, with great fuel economy, with the really cool sound, would be a nice thing to have. I think it would be cool to not run pre mix fuel as well. There has been much talk in the past about those honda motors, but unless you convert one to aircraft use yourself, there is nothing available. The Roto engines are out there but are quite pricey.
As for the Honda 4-strokes, you can get 3 models from... http://www.carrprecision.com/Pages/prod02.htm The Hondas would be perfect, as you said, in WW1 aircraft, where a bit more nose weight is desirable. I run a Honda GX31 mounted on its side on a bicycle. Works great and uses only a whiff of fuel commuting to work and back.

RE: Transporting in a pickup
Here is what I use... works great and cost $700 http://www.softopper.com/ This is mine at my airfield. The tops folds forward like a convertible if you like. It only takes a minute or two to install and remove, so I store it in my garage until I want to use it. It will last forever that way. The construction of these tops is first class. RE: Club FOX!
Did my little bit to support an American company, ordered a new Fox .45, whoohoo! Actually, I've always liked Fox engines, have had good luck with them and still run a few .40's. Anyway, willl be interested to see how the new carb design works out.

RE: Why Gassers are more addictive or better than Glows e?
Glow fuel is a lot cheaper if you make your own. I can buy methanol locally in bulk which is even better. I mix the methanol with Sig castor oil. I don't bother with nitromethane so my fuel is what you could call FAI blend. I love the smell of hot castor oil in the morning.

RE: Why Gassers are more addictive or better than Glows e?
First, it isn't nitro fuel, its glow fuel. Typically a low percentage of nitromethane in glow fuel and many GLOW engines run fine on 0% nitromethane. I think the term "nitro" migrated over from the glow engined car crowd. I've run all engines from glow 2 stroke and 4 stroke as well as ignition glow and gas. At the end of the day my favourite is still 2 stroke glow power. I love the power to weight ratio as well as the sound and the smell. I guess I grew up at a time when cleaning up some oil residue off an airplane wasn't considered as a big deal let alone an unbearable chore.

RE: Best all around 40 size engine
ORIGINAL: jaka Hi! As I sell MVVS engines I would probably say MVVS but to be honest the best two-stroke sport .40 engine today are the Kyosho GX.40! This is same engine as ASP.40 made by Sanye but with a little larger exhasut opening in their silencer for better performance. I have several of these engines i my Q-500 stable and all perform extreamly vell The are reliable and powerfull and throttle perfect. These engines run as well on 80/20 fuel provided you remove either one or two of the head shims. RPM on a 10x6 RAM prop is around 14000rpm on 80/20 fuel and Nova Rossi 4 glow plug. A little less rpm using OS 8 or Enya 3. The first time I saw one of these engines were 8-10 years ago when a newcomer appered at our club with a Kyosho ''Calmato '' .40 trainer which had a 12x6 prop mounted. Naturally I said to him that that prop was way to big for his .40 engine, but as he had no other prop with him we went ahead and flew the plane. Was I suprised when I saw how well the plane behaved! You bet! That little engine coped with that large prop with ease!! The fuel used then was 16% nitro but provided you remove one or two of the head shimms you can run less cosly 80/20 fuel.
Jaka, I follow the part about 16% nitromethane fuel, but could you explain what you mean by 80/20? Thanks.

RE: What cars/trucks do you use to transport stuff?
Went out and found a $400.00 Ford pick-up, you know, the real kind that actually has an 8 foot box. Then I bought a Softopper and life is great. I can carry a Delta Vortex, a BUSA Enforcer an LT-40 along with gear, chairs and a small BBQ. The dog rides up front with me where he belongs, lol. http://www.softopper.com/

Telemaster .40 Sig Kadet LT .40 Carl Goldberg Eagle 2 Early RC Models Senior Falcon... this aircraft would be the best of the bunch in windy conditions. They don't have any currently in stock but will notify you when they become available.

RE: Delta Vortex build
Ha, thanks Bruce. Here is a pic of the DV right after release into a light wind. I'm moving my right hand as quickly as possible to get on the elevator stick. Normal procedure would be to have somone else do the hand launching. My wife was the only person with me (she snapped the pic) and she wasn't game for picking that plane up let alone chucking it..lol.

RE: Delta Vortex build
I built two Delta Vortex's for use as bird control devices at our airport. The only mods I made were longer gear legs for more flex and clearance on rough field landings as well as finger wells on the underside to facilitate hand launching. Nose gear is non-steerable. Power is a ST G90. The Delta Vortex is the perfect design for this task as it is capable of pulling the G's in flight as well as resisting damage on rough field landings. Plus it is fun to fly! I also have a Balsa USA Enforcer that isn't as tough but much nicer looking and a nice flier, too.

RE: Bad news from Webra
I know the Canadian government supported Webra in the 80's and 90's. The small gunnery drones they used in New Brunswick had Webra engines in the nose. Sure wish I could have been the range keeper, probably would have a good engine collection by now. Also, a few have mentioned their fear of Enya disappearing from the scene. Only one way to prevent it, put your money where your mouth is, to use the old expression. Yes, I have, just ordered a fresh .40 ss BB from Japan.

RE: Bad news from Webra
ORIGINAL: NM2K Just for kicks, one day I calculated the true displacement of the Enya 80-4C. It turned out to be .74 cubic inches. I was shocked that Enya would call it an .80 when it was not by a substantial number. Today's Enya .61 CX is actually a .58. Old habits are hard to break. Ed Cregger
Nothing wrong there, rounding up and even sometimes rounding down is done for marketing. Many manufacturers do it, nothing wrong with it. Just read the spec sheet they always provide.

If you still want a very high quality engine, in fact one of the best, you can still buy directly from Enya, in Japan. http://www.enya-engine.com/index_E.htm I just ordered a .40SS BB at 15% off and shipping via airmail was just over $20.00, not too bad really.

Hi Guys, I have a Minnie Mambo kit on its way from Early RC. I plan to do this plane as a free flight, powered with a PAW .033 diesel. Any advice that you could pass along would be appreciated. I'm assuming that the MM is suitable as a free flight model.
ORIGINAL: Thomas46 By seeing the picture it seems to me you used the engine from a hedge trimmer (original vertical position) No problem by fuel filling?? No fuel leak at filler cap?
Hi Thomas, The engine came from my mini-tiller, then later I bought another engine off Ebay to replace the tiller motor. The original position would have the pull start facing upward. I just lay the bike on its side to refuel. The cap is designed for any position and doesn't leak. If you wanted you could rotate the engine to any position desired.

RE: Honda GX 35 again
ORIGINAL: subarubrat Ok, here is a video I shot and the sound is amped up big time. All I can ask is that you listen to the whole thing. Listen to the engine and at the end, compare it to how loud the wheels are on roll out. You know how loud your wheels are on roll out, so keep that in mind and you will get an idea of how loud this engine is on short stacks. http://subarubrat.com/misc/sig4stroke.wmv
Nice plane and engine. You're right, that engine is quiet and has a nice note to it, too. I have a couple GX31's, one is mounted on my wife's bicycle and the other powers my mini-tiller. Great engines and a bonus that they run in any position. Someday I would like to get one installed in a Nieuport.

MVVS .91
I have an MVVS .91 glow engine that came with a diesel head and a carb for diesel use. I currently have it listed for sale. However, I can't find any information about the MVVS diesel .91. I have found some old advertisements for the MVVS .61 diesel parts. Can someone confirm that there was a glow/diesel option on the .91, or is this a .61 diesel head with the optional carb? P.S. the engine has the red badge on the left side with the number "15", so it is a .91 size engine.

Good thread. Now I'm glad I hung on to my .25 powered Jr. Tiger! Neat little plane and a ball to fly. One of my buddies learned to fly on a Sr. Falcon, and I helped build a couple of the Super Chipmunks. I think its about time I ordered a Super Chipmunk kit for myself.

We always used WD40 as a cold weather start fluid, a quick shot into the carb works everytime. Its no good as an afterrun or storage oil. Best to leave that job to Corrosion-X or Corrosion Block.

RE: Honda CR-V any good for carrying rc planes or too small?
I was also looking for a more suitable (new) vehicle for aircraft transport. In the end I bought an '81 Ford pick-up, standard cab with an 8 foot box. Got the truck for $460.00 and it runs and drives OK for what I need. Then I bought one of these, www.softopper.com Now I have the ultimate aircraft carrier, can take my 1/3 Spacewalker plus a few others along plus my gear, chairs etc. The truck also does double duty as a trash hauler to the landfill, and its great for picking up building supples, all for just a tad over $1,000.00cdn.
