RE: DL-50 engine
Ok. I just unpacked my edge. I am very impressed with the quality of the arf. There are some parts that are going in the trash. 1. The landing gear. ( to heavy) 2. All the hard wear. (Cheesy ARF) typical 3. The CA hinges. (Just cant build a 50cc with"em) But other than that stuff it seems very nice. There's glue in all the joints and the wood is good. The only other concern I have is the flat stab/rudder. I'm debating weather or not to brace it. Not that big of a deal really... For what this plane costs it is very worth it. It's very nice.

RE: Funtana X 125/DLE 30
8 ounces is the amount of fuel savings from flight to flight. I fly a 120 ax and it sucks down a 16 ounce tank of YS 20/20 in 10 minutes with ease. A DL-30 will use 6 to 8 ounces for the same flight. So to say a DL-30 will add 8 ounces is wrong. If you count the fuel for all up weight.

HillBilly, I've been reading as much on that plane as I can find. When I get mine I'll probably do a build thread on it. But it's going to be a winter project so it might be slow going.

My new plane won't be any heavier than 17 pounds. My SD-Model Yak weighed 16.5 pounds and it had 150 square inches less wing. And it was a great flying 3D bird. This edge is going to be wonderful. I can't wait!!![:D][:D] I live at 800 feet ASL.

Moki's are glow engines. Glow fuel and Gasoline are two very different fuels. Glow fuel is 18 to 20% oil. That's about 5 to 1 mix. Our Gasser's are running 32 to 1 mix. That's 3.125% oil. The more viscous the fluid/fuel the less chance there will be for a leak.

Cyberwolf, You have to explain yourself for the simplest minds on a forum. Because we can't ask you questions or make comments without offending you. A clear question without belittling the DL quality is a must. If you want to bash DL, this isn't the place to do it. We all take offence to that because we all love our DL's.

Cyberwolf, You build engines for a living? That's hard to believe, if you don't realise that two, even well machined surfaces, need some kind of sealant to make an air tight seal. I'm not sticking up for Jody I just find it hard to believe that you have that much experience with a question like that.

There are a lot of factors here. Are your needles set right? What is your altitude? How many gallons threw your motor?

After Breakin you guys will see even stronger numbers. I'm getting 7650rpm on a 22x8 Xoar. That's with about 4 gallons of lawn boy ashless. I just switched to Bell-ray MC-1 50to1. This motor is a power house on the stock muffler.[:D][:D]

RE: DL-50 engine
My experience with a stripped head was to buy a Heli coil kit. Its not the gasket. Its the red silicon. Red loctite is the only way. Also are your bolts long enough to use all the threads in the head? If not buy longer bolts.

RE: DL-50 engine
5MMx.8 or they say you can use a 10x32. I've used both. J-tec pitts make very good power. Most pitts mufflers rob a little power. So if you can run the stock muffler I recommend it.

RE: DL-50 engine
That is a very heated debate. I have an old DL-50 also. I chose not to use the extruded mounts. I've heard of them failing and I chose not to run the risk. But others have had good luck with them. I say buy some good standoffs. And trash the extruded mounts.

RE: DL-50 engine
The 645's on a 30% plane will work if you don't set it up for 3D throws. The set up would have a 1" arm on the servo and a long arm on the control surface. For 3D I would recommend 5645's minimum.

KARBONITE gears are a little more brittle. I run JR 821's in my small planes, and 5985's 5955's and 7955's in my bigger stuff. I love Hitec.

RE: DL-50 engine
The 5645 is a good servo. If you go to tower hobbies web sight you can buy gears for next to nothing. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVE87 If you have to replace gears every few years and can't afford the gear sets you should have bought a smaller plane.

I use 91 octane just because I can get it non oxygenated. I don't like alcohol..."In my gas" That is. The only reason I changed my plug to an ngk is the ngk fits much better in the head. Much Much better.

RE: DL-50 engine
I agree with tired old man. There are a lot of very good props out there. Also I am old fashion in the way that if a motor calls for one size prop or another I like to know what I'm buying. These props are not cheap. For what I run for props oldrookie, I only run a strait beechwood prop. If I would ever have a prop strike I want the prop to fail not the airframe. I have a 27X10 JXF on my DA-100 and a 22X8 Xoar on my DL-50. Both very good props.

RE: DL-50 engine
I just looked on vess' website. They don't say what the pitch means. There very vague about it. I think the intent is for you to order the wrong prop first then have to buy a second one. They like money I'm guessing? I run Xoar and JXF props they pull hard and you know what your buying.
