RE: CRRC GF45i
Hi Jody No I am not confused, what you wrote, what you meant and how people interpret it is confusing. I agree if you have a problem you must fix that problem, regardless if it is PCM or PPM, setting it up right in the first place is the key. The inference that comes across is that PCM only masks problems, when that is clearly not the case. Yes I have experienced problems with PPM and going to PCM has eliminated that problem without any further issues. So it can and does happen in practice but it is not the cure for all problems. RE: CRRC GF45i
ORIGINAL: jedijody If you can't set up a gasser to work safe and trouble free on PPM you are not going to be safe with PCM, 2.4, or anything else.
A very misleading and incorrect statement. You are indicating that PCM etc is wrong from day 1. We use PCM all the time without issues, and thats my point you can use PCM without any issues and without it masking problems, we do it every weekend. Sure if not setup properly you will have issues with anything PPM, PCM or 2.4. To say it must work properly with PPM first or it wont with anything else/masks problems is just rubbish, if setup properly there is nothing to mask. The RF noise from the plug cap not being on properly still shows up with PCM as it does with PPM. Hope this helps clear up some confusion.[:D] Cheers Paul

RE: CRRC GF45i
I dont know anyone that flys gassers with PPM, its all PCM or you have trouble. Don't believe PCM masks anything at all, it just works. (I dont use failsafe either) All my gassers and everyone I know use PCM RX's with no problem at all. Why waste time and sanity on PPM. Too many people get too technical. Cheers Paul

RE: Seagull's
Matt I use CA hinges in everything and never had any issues with them, but I never use the thin crappy ones that come with most arf's. The Great Planes bulk ca hinge material with 2 x 2"x9" sheets is way thicker and makes lots of hinges. Pinned hinges are really not required on this airframe but sealing the gap is a good idea, although mine really hammers and flies fast, I have not sealed the gaps. I used the original landing gear and put 3" mains and 2 1/2" nose wheel and beefed up the firewall by adding another thickness of ply and also another small piece of ply where the nose bracket bolts on and its really strong. No onboard glow fitted. Never had any issues with the wing incidence just bolted it on and ca'd the ply reinforcing washers in place. CG is set between 100-105mm and its easy to land with heaps of elevator authority. All round a really good cheap well made plane. Goodluck with DA no.2 Cheers Paul
ORIGINAL: kiosk
ORIGINAL: Sandmann_AU - If possible use two channels for throttles with computer mixing so you can have one trim for both throttles, and a second trim for just one (easier to balance engines). You can also throw in some throttle steering by mixing the rudder with the throttles. RE: HS 75BB Retract servo failures:
Have installed one of the new replacement servo's in a 1:3rd scale glider and have cycled the retract about 15 times, so far so good. Really a mystery as to why they failed in the first place within seconds of each other. The new ones in the P47 (where the failures occured originally) have been working fine. Gremlins....who knows. Thanks Hitec for quick replacement. Cheers Paul

RE: Seagull's
Heya Paul... That red trim really looks good on the DA. Very professional looking job you've done there too - looks like it was factory done.
Thanks Matt, just changed the 3 bladers from Master Airscrew 10x7 (too many Revs) to Graupner 10x8.3 and it really hammers. Pity there is not a bigger range of 3 bladers available as a 10x7.5 would be ideal. If I had the ground clearance then 11x7, 2 blade is the ticket. The 2 four strokers sound fantastic. This DA is my twin trainer before I get into my ESM B25 Bomber. Cheers Paul

RE: Lipo's in transmitters ? ? ?
ORIGINAL: BarracudaHockey Works like a champ in the 9c, 9303, and Dx7 Just don't leave it turned on by accident. The low voltage cut off kicks in way too late to save a lipo.
Funny you should mention that. Last comp I went to someone else put my radio away for me. 3 days passed before I had reason to get my radio out and #$%@ the lipo was flat, he had left it turned on. So I charged the pack thru the balance lead 1 cell at a time until the voltage came up and its worked perfect for the last 2 months. Being only a 3C pack may have helped. Cheers Paul

RE: Hitec servos jittering after soldering on exts
I feel that there are some misguided statements in the first few posts indicating that soldering servo leads is a no no. In answering the original question, soldering servo extentions and servo leads will not cause jittering in a servo. Some people prefer to use extension leads, some like to crimp there own and some like to solder. I have been soldering plugs and leads for over 15 years and never had one fail or break in any aircraft including big gassers. Do it properly and you will never have a problem. Each to his own. Cheers Paul

RE: Hitec servos jittering after soldering on exts
Interesting views.. The best thing to secure extension leads is heat shrink over the plugs, will never come apart. As for soldered wires breaking on servo's must say that its never happened to me, think about it, the servo and wiring just sits there does not move so how can it break. I have been soldering all my servo extension's for years and never had a problem in small or giant scale aircraft, nitro, electric and gas powered. Just finishing the wiring looms for a 5mtr span fully moulded Ventus and it has lots of soldered connections on the multiplex, graupner plugs (12 plugs in all with 6 connections on each plug, thats 48 soldered links, just in the wings) wings have 8 servo's. This is normal practice in the glider scene. Soldering extension leads has no effect on servo's , as for being a capacitor ???? most of my leads have 2 joins per lead with no ill effects. Use quality servo wire and heat shrink the joints, for long leads use heavy duty twisted wire, simple really. Soldering leads will not make your servo's jitter. Cheers Paul
ORIGINAL: redfox435cat your radio need to be set up ie desighned for it. This was checked with JR, there response, as expected was not recommended, but the warranty/repair engineer said he uses one in his and it will do no harm at all. No regulators/ alterations required just drop in. Been using mine for the last 4/5 months and I know other members using other brand radios use them as well. Cheers Paul

RE: help 3 hs-5645mg melted in my plane
Sounds like you have a major wiring/electronic problem, doubt that it would be the servo's but who knows?? My only suggestion , as electrical faults can be difficult to diagnose, is to recheck all the wiring and check all the components individually. Set it all up on the bench and replace 1 component at a time. Check the output voltage on the regulator and also check the amp draw of the servo's as well. A123 cells don't normally require a regulator. We are using A123 cells without regs and have no problems at all. Good luck. Cheers Paul

RE: Walbro, shame on you!
Whats the big deal?? I always check my carbies when installing the engine, takes about 5 minutes to inspect it and make sure there's no nasties hiding inside ready to go into your engine and tear up the bore on the first start. You would be surprised how often "swarf" is included for no extra charge. Maybe the cheaper engines have carbies that are "2nd's", you know the ones that get returned!![8|] Cheers Paul
