Art Tech Yak 54 from HK. CG? Motor?
Where is the CG on your 36" AT/HK Yak 54? I just flew mine for the first time. Instructions I found online said the CG should be between the leading edge at wing root to 2-1/4" back but NEVER fly with CG further back than that. Well I had to add 3oz of lead to the front of the cowl just to get it to the 2-1/2" mark. Had DX6i @ 30% on low rate all surfaces and 70% on high rate. When I took off I gave it all up elev and was barely able to get it off the gound and wished I hadn't. Had to use high rate just to get it under control. After extensive up elev trimming I was able to get it to fly level, barely. Had to brig it in hot to keep it from drilling the ground. I removed the weights from the cowl and put .75oz on the styrofoam lug just behind (bottom) the cowl. 2nd flight went much better and afterwards the elev was still trimmed up slightly. I think next time will be without any weights. Thinking about stick mounting a Turnigy 2217 20turn 860kv 22A Outrunner or a park 450, any ideas on these motors with this plane?

Blade 120 SR, Left Turn Only Helicopter?
Newbee questions. I have an MSR and can fly with some confidence. I'm able to do slow figure 8's, banked circles left and right and land pretty accurately. I bought a used 120 SR and have it trimed to hover nicely with little or no input. I can get forward flight, backward flight, left flight and right flight. All that seems good but when I start to do figure 8's, with slight forward flight input, it's difficult to get it to turn to the left and doesn't seem to want to bank left when I add left aileron. When I turn right with rudder input only it goes into a fast right turn with the nose pointing down and I have to give it up elevator and left aileron just to get it into a controlable right turn. I set the push rods at the recommended 37mm and started over. I kept adjusting trim then the push rod lengths until my trim was on center and she would hover. Still same problem. If I'm hovering and just put right rudder no aileron input it still wants to take off. It's like it's out of balance and I'm having to compensate for it with trim and adjustments. These are my current settings: 120SR + DX6i heli settings L/R 75% on ail & elev 100% on rudder H/R 100% everything Gyro 1 servo 90* all else it default DX6i Ive seen the following settings posted on several sites and plan to set up another Heli on my radio to try them. Don't know if it will help but it can't hurt. I hope the author of this doesn't mind me posting this. This is how i have mine set up. D/R Expo AILE 0 100% +20 ELEV 0 100% +20 RUDD 0 100% +20 Now flip all ypur switches to the "1" position... SWASH MIX INH MIX 1 INH MIX 2 INH REVO MIX all 0% SET UP LIST: MODEL TYPE HELI REVERSE all N SWASH TYPE 1 servo 90* THRO CUT position INH D/R COMBI D/R switch: INH That should get you going. I use the gyro switch to switch between high and low rate. All switches..elev,aile,rudd have two feels to them one with + 20 expo and the other with +15...you can change these to suit your taste. I like to have two settings...one for flying around and the other for landing. I use the gear/f.mode switch to togle between two throttle curves. I hope this can help you out,if you have any questions i'll help if i can. Heli Bones.

RE: 1s 3.7v Did I kill my batteries?
Thanks, I tried one of the 120mah batts in a different plane that has a new motor this am. Same results. Must be the Batts. Set my Dx6i on 5min count down but can't hear the alarm. Too many years in construction and to little ear protection. Anyone know if there's a louder alarm that can be installed in the Dx6i?

1s 3.7v Did I kill my batteries?
I have, (1) Hobbyzone 150mah 12c w/20 to 30 charges (3) E-flite 120mah 14c w/20 to 30 charges (3) Venom 150mah 25c w/ 4 or 5 charges E-flite Celectra .1a to .7a variable rate charger. I've been charging at .1a. This charger only has flashing lights to tell you when it's charging, almost finished charging and finished charging. I have to assume that it stops charging at 4.2v but I don't know. Here's where I may have screwed up. I had charged my batteries on a thursday and before I went flying Sat morning I topped them off. Each only took a few minutes and the Venoms less than the others. Is this the wrong thing to do? I started out by running the 2 venoms in the T-28, each lasted about 9 min.s, then tried an E-flite and it only lasted about 1.5 min.s then another e-flite with the same results. So I put the Hz 150 in and got maybe 2 min.s Later when I recharged the batteries the E-flites and Hz only took a few min.s to charge as though they weren't discharged hardly at all. They Venom's charged as they had before, about 1 hr. I haven't tried any of them since, so I'm not sure of their condition now. What do you guys think? Did I kill the older batteries by topping off and the Venom's could stand it because they are newer? Maybe the T-28 motor was too hot and drawing to much? Sorry for being so long winded! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Celectra 1S 3.7 Variable Rate DC Li-Po Charger for 120 and 150mah batteries?
Thanks, I charged them at .3 and it took between 25 and 35 minutes on the 120's which is the same as the charger that came with my Champ. It must be charging at about .3 also. I have a 150mah that I left in the plane over night, now it takes about an hour to charge. Not sure if that's a sign that I should discard it.

I spoke with support at Horizon Hobbies. They said 120 and 150mah should be charged at .3 amps and the 250 should be charged anywhere between .3 and .7 amps. Sound right to you folks?

I just received the charger listed below and a 120v x 6v 1500 mah power source from ebay. The instructions only refer to charging a 500mah battery. It says to charge the 500ah at .7 but I plan to use it on 120 and 150mah batterys. It's variable in tenths from .1 thru .7 mah. What setting would I use for these batteries? Eventually I hope to get a Parkzone Masquito which comes with a 250mah what would I use for that? But will it bind with any 4 channel BNF plane as I was told? And why would binnfly.com say that it only works with the few planes they list. I would like to try a biplane but don't now if it willl work.

It has Hobbyzone label on the front and Horizon Hobbies on the bottom. I can't find a model number on the radio or their web site. This is the description they give on the Champ product page. 2.4GHz transmitter with Spektrum™ DSM® technology 4-channel 2.4GHz transmitter with Spektrum DSM 2 The HobbyZone® Champ is also equipped with the Spektrum 2.4GHz DSM2™ advantage: The Champ’s radio system uses the same Spektrum 2.4GHz DSM2 technology that is trusted by experienced RC pilots all around the world. With DSM2 technology you will enjoy complete freedom from signal interference whenever you fly. And after you teach yourself to fly, you can use the Champ’s transmitter to fly some of the Bind-N-Fly ultra micro aircraft from ParkZone and Blade. Visit bindnfly.com to see which ones.

What should I get for a second plane?
I've been into boats and cars for many years and just bought my first plane last week, a Hobbyzone Champ. What do you think would be the best second plane, P-51, Corsair or the Mosquito(all ultra micros)? Also the guys at my LHS tell me that the radio that came with my Champ will bind and work find with any BNF plane. Is this true? I went to bindandfly.com and on their compatibility list there are only a hand for of planes that will bind with my transmitter. I will get a better radio eventually but right now I had rather get a plane with ailerons then get a better radio later. Thanks for any advise.

Cheap lightweight Keychain Camera mount for Hobbyzone Champ
I put a tab of Velcro just behind the battery compartment and as far back as possible on the camera. Then I rolled a business card to make a sleeve and to act as a shim to provide some downward angle. Taped the sleeve into place and cut the tape away in front of the lans. Fed some piano wire thru the sleeve, bent sme offsets to clear the wheel pants and hooks to attach the rubber band to. Pretty crude but lightweight and you can pull the camera away from the velcro to get to the battery connector.

RE: Has anyone switched SH.18 to OS .18 in any Redcat? Or any other .18 for that matter?
Almost a DIRECT SWAP. I did it in a Caldera. Had to make some thin shims to go between engine and mounts so the OS pull start (slightly bigger than SH) would chear the upper chassis. OS .18 comes with shims for this but in my case they were to thick. Also had to cut 2 threads off crank shaft to use SH clutch bell assembly. Happy with results.

RE: Caldera 3.0 vids
Yes it does shift into second too soon. I've adjusted it as far as it will go so it's actually a little better (in the vids)than it was when I first got it. I got the new OS .18 broken in yesterday. Has noticably more low end punch. Got 6 tanks though it and haven't really started leaning on it yet. So I'm not sure how quick it will get to top end. Sounds rich, smokes like a freight train and runnig at 200-210 degrees. I may not do a lot of leaning.

RE: SH .18 ABC or ABN?
You know, that may be it. When you said " it's the oil film between the piston and liner" it occured to me that I had changed my oil content. That first gallon was origanily Byrons 30% nitro,11% oil. I had printed out the calculation (from an online fuel calculator) to add 9 oz of castor to make it 18% oil. This is what I was running in my boats and I figured it would be good for the break in of this car motor. Well I went ahead and ran the whole gallon through it. I had another gallon of the same fuel 30% nitro and 11% oil I wanted to go lighter on the oil and I couldn't find the online fuel calculator I used before so I just added 4oz of castor. I'm not sure where this put my oil content but it seems that my performance went down hill from there. I thought that the fuel may have been bad so I picked up a gallon of 20% nitro 12% oil fuel and tried it but same bad results. So maybe I need to get my oil content back where the engine has been running god and see what I have. I have a 500 cc filler bottle and plan to fill it with the 30% fuel that I added 4oz to and add anothef 5/8 oz to that 500cc and if my calculation are correct it should get me back to the oil content I first ran.

RE: SH .18 ABC or ABN?
I thought that there were two types of ABN engines. One used in the lower grade engines due to the easier and less expensive process of nickle plating. The other being the rare and very expensive engines using Nickasil plating which I've always understood as being very hard and the longest lasting. Don't know this for a fact just what I've read over the years.

RE: SH .18 ABC or ABN?
in reply to: If it runs at all once warmed up, it's not worn out, Check your carb HSN setting I have a Traxxas 2.5 that has finally lost it's pinch and it still starts and runs awesome. Like I said it will only run at or above 1/4 throttle. So I have to keep blipping the throttle to keep it running. And even with the Traxxas high stall clutch I have in it I can't blip and brake enough to stop it and keep it running. No fun at all. On the bench it will idle when cold but as we all know it won't stay cold for long. Once it warms up I can keep it running but if I let it even get close to an idle it shuts down. Then it won't start until I flood it with enough fuel to cool it back down. Then the cycle starts all over. I paid close attention to the needle setting from the time it was new and I know where I should be. I've tried every setting plus or minus 1 turn from my best running setting.

SH .18 ABC or ABN?
I purchased a Redcat Racing Caldera 3.0 with an SH .18 engine. It has a blue cooling head and a slide carb. Can you tell me if this motor is ABC or ABN contstruction? If it is ABN is there an ABC piston and sleeve available for it? I've kept a close eye on it through break in and each run not to get over 220*. I've only run one gallon of fuel (18% oil 20% nitro)through it and there is no pinch left at TDC. I can get it started when cold but once it warms up it will only run at or above about 1/4 throttle. I'm thinking a new piston and liner would solve my problem but I don't want to do it if ABN is the only choice I have. Thanks for any help.
