RE: Elefant by Hooben
Hi kc and rivet, Camping out at the front door waiting for my kit and so nice to here from you all again. Got to busy to play on rcu right now, but thanks again for the babble! You all keep it amusing. The real issue "me thinks" is not that you guys are probably neo model nat-zees...LOL. It is that last year I politely warned the most photo visible of you rc tankers that the "obesity" trend would catch up with you all and that seems to have hurt your little feelings. LOL. The super fat proof is found in all the Danville and DAK rcu modeler tanker photos you guys proudly post. Dudes buy a home treadmill instead of the Elefant kit, and watch Oprah for weight control tips. LOL. Plus Viper and rivet's SS neo-crap avatars just isn't going to fly in my book before a USA Memorial Weekend, at least not with out some chain pulling comments. Take care friends....LOL. John

Just received kit instructions today from ETO, are they the latest edition? And that last quote was for rivet rivet, MI super boy. The Oprah quote was to help put things into perspective for the sophomoric MI super boy and of course rivet rivet too. All the best and nice avatar super boy. John

Thank you and I got this Porsche turret kit semi started from a rcu forum member, but off eBay and inexpensively. For now I will run the model in base paint looking kinda like prototype number 2 until I decide on a final finish.

OK and to let you out of the little corner you guys painted yourselves into, I do enjoy Bob's and your completely stubborn positions on just about everything under the sun. But don't hold your breath waiting for a build thread, something pretty good is already going on over on rc groups tanks.

RE: Images and Video of Arkmodel Elephant tank which is hot sale now!
Before going to your micrometer Bob, I highly recommend first a visit to your opthamologist. Once restored, then check all the recent videos of this model running around, it will become clear as to where the running gear spacing issues are. And Jerry the proof of the pudding is in the empirical observation and note the tech line art on the packaging. But no matter, it is a desirable kit and I am happy I prepaid for one at that. John PS And how do you spell hunting in German? LOL.

RE: Images and Video of Arkmodel Elephant tank which is hot sale now!
Hi Bob, Looking forward to receiving my prepaid kit soon. The Hooben Elefant road wheel spacing is a little off and confirmed after looking at all the new OEM build and kit photos recently posted. Photos clearly show that fact, but that does not diminish the excitement about building and running this kit. Period photos, the captured museum pieces and virtually every 1/35 fine scale armor kit every made (LOL) confirm Hooben's road wheel spacing could have been better executed. Interestingly, in the last photo, the Holy Grail of 1/16th Ferdinand/Elefant models seems to have got it wrong too. John

RE: Tamiya Leo 1A4 builtup
Hello, My first Leo build not have recoil, but this second build will. This is a preview look and next month I will have more how to photos to post showing the trunnion, etc., as work on this Leopard 1 A4 progresses. The effort uses the Tamiya Pershing recoil unit with aluminum prototype parts fabricated by Daryl Turner. Pretty sure Daryl Turner will offer a Leo recoil kit for the Leo Turret, a trunnion setup, plus a semi built metal barrel parts kit (flash capable). I believe DT will also offer some type of spring loaded return rear idler system, gearbox mount brace and perhaps a how to on adding bearings to the Tamiya Leo A4's kit road wheels. John

RE: Reading Material
The phrase should be "in other words", not another word, though that is no doubt what you mean. Hey rivecounter, go read that web site (if you can) and what the General is saying is that in the academic military arena, even the US Army does not edit out and DOES allow for the offensive and murderess expressions and beliefs of the WWII German enemy to be read and heard. That openess would never have happened in your fantasy kraut fatherland of the 1940's. LOL. Again, when you go to college and graduate, someday, you will learn that writing history is an interpretive event and takes many sources to capture the facts and slant is a given. Also read this book for a perspective and interesting SLANT from the German side: Tigers in the Mud: The Combat Career of German Panzer Commander, Otto Carius (Author), Robert Edwards (Translator).

RE: DMD issues
2 cent tip. 1. First, carefully unplug everything from the DMD Units and remove the DMD Units and the receiver from the KT hull. 2. Charge your tank battery and make sure the transmitter has good batterie(s). 3. Again, with DMD Units out of and away from the KT hull, plug in the speaker and the receiver per the directions. 4. Reprogram the units per the instructions and you should now be OK. 5. If your on old AM, make sure there is no interference going on around the DMD units.

RE: Reading Material
Favorites: Plus the other books mentioned above add these to the must read list: 1. At a book store or at Amazon: MICHAEL WITTMANN AND THE WAFFEN SS TIGER COMMANDERS OF THE LEIBSTANDARTE IN WWII, Vol. II (Stackpole Military History) [Paperback]. 2. At your local library: Sherman: A History of the American Medium Tank, R Hunnicutt (Author). And ETO Bob, writing history is an interpretive sport, so what is your point, all writers have a slant? 3. Try online and check this site out: http://www.history.army.mil/bookshelves.html "Final editing was done in the Foreign Studies Branch, Special Studies Division, Office of the Chief of Military History. The draft translation of the original German text was first revised and then reorganized in the interest of brevity, clarity, and pertinence. In this process every effort was made to retain the point of view, the expressions, and even the prejudices of the authors. A. C. SMITH, Major General, USA, Chief, Military History." John

RE: I think I should have just bought a new one....
Hi, I received the Tamiya Sherman spare parts for free when a local hobby shop went out of business, so if you come up short on any plastic, I probably have it. Never been down to Phil's events, but maybe next time. My weekends are usually not my own, but we will see how the summer goes and looking forward to meeting you if and when. Probably more cost effective to build a Tamiya Pz4 stock than a bells and whistle HLÂ Pz3. Built both and the Tamiya kit is the better way to go in my opinion. Plus, the Tamiya Pz4 does not really require any upgrades to be a solid runner. John

RE: Tamyia panzer IV vs Panther question
2 cents: Both are good kits, though the Panther had some serious teething problems when first released. I found the Pz4 is much easier to rc setup than the Panther G, but with some effort the Panther can be setup to operate very well too. If you build the Panther I would recommend the Impact Glacis Plate Guides, Impact tracks and drive sprockets, the Daryl Turner metal gearbox mount brace, Daryl Turner metal elevation arm and the road wheel bearings from Impact as the basic aids to get the Panther running good. Also remove and CA glue solid the black clutch gears in the elevation and turret rotation units and re-install said gears. As to the Panzer IV modifications, I used the Impact late tracks, the Daryl Turner metal gearbox mount brace, Daryl Turner metal elevation arm and removed and then CA glued solid the black clutch gears in the elevation and turret rotation units. I left the gear boxes stock, the scale speed of the Pz4 model is pretty good without any modifications. So, depending on your budget, both are very good kits, but you might spend a couple of bucks more to get the Panther setup to run as well as the Pz4. And don't forget the Jagdpanther, it is a pretty cool kit too. John
