RE: NW TENN FLYERS
I do like the new decal! Looks better in the last couple pics while it's in the air then it does in the first! At least the weather has been nice up here. A little on the windy side, especially in the afternoon/evening, but sunny all week and the temp has been perfect. I am ready for a couple days at home tho aye.........

I start with synthetic from day 1 at 32:1 and haven't had issues. Just about everyone I fly with does the same. Let the war begin............... As for the time that the gas will stay usable, I treat it like I do my mower or weed eater gas. Basically the same thing.

Guess my question would be why? What benefit is there to going "low budget" or cheap in things like the rx and/or servos? I value my investment more than that but then again, that's just me.

RE: First attempt at robart hinges FAILED, now what??
Were your hinges mounted into a hinge block or just into a balsa trailing edge stick? If they weren't glued into a block behind the trailing edge, they will pull loose. Using CA hinges, the CA wicks into the balsa and the hinges don't come loose and that isn't the case with robart hinges. The Robart hinge needs something more to glue to.
ORIGINAL: gaRCfield I got some from Chief Aircraft - they had the 8411 for $100, and once I put that and two 9411's in my cart, shipping was free.
Good servo but since I've been using the Spektrum A6030, I've been really happy with them. Pretty much the same specs but the price is about 20 - 30 bucks less per servo. Might consider checking a couple out the next time you're in the market.

RE: Spectrum receivers
Personally, I think there's a reason they are made orange. In aviation, they call the FDR and CVR a "black box" but in reality they are painted orange so they are easier to see and find in the event of a crash. Coincidence? Hummmm.........

RE: loosing signal
What kind of battery are you using at the rx and what is the voltage when this "signal loss" occurs? Have you checked it with a volt meter that puts a load on the battery? Also, there have been numerous reports of issue with the AR500. I don't believe they even make it anymore but I could be mistaken. I've also heard of issues with the AR600. If it were me, I'd loose them to begin with.

RE: It's been a long, fun adventure...
Well now, I guess I'm kind of the reverse in some ways and similar in others. I'm on the verge of 56, done the Harley thing with the wife (and haven't given up hope of having another [:D]), empty nest as well although the wife would love for one of the two kids to present her with grand kids (they would end up spending more time here than at their parents), and I would LOVE to get the wife into flying but she has absolutely NO interest (perhaps since I'm in aviation as a career she is tired of hearing it [:D]). Did my parents declining health but still have my wife's mother to go and I can assure anyone that cares that I'll be flying/building until I die now. My father was a teacher and although I have no clue how the family made it on his income, he probably wouldn't have been happy doing anything else. I wish you and your wife good times along your way to Alaska. My wife was born up there and I would dearly love to visit some day. I have a good friend that lives up there and has offered a place to stay any time we choose. We'll get there but like you, it will be in the summer. I find that the older I get, the less I like the cold! Paul

RE: Spektrum AR8000 useless without satellite
Not sure either party bares all responsibility. Lack of a satellite wasn't mentioned by the seller..........and the question wasn't asked by the buyer. Not saying the seller wasn't pulling a quickie, but if the buyer suggests he didn't ask because he just started using Spektrum and didn't know, isn't it the same as the seller not mentioning it because that's all he might use and expected that everyone knew that? Just my humble opinion here but if you point a finger at someone, remember there are three others pointing back at you! Both are wrong. Ignorance is no excuse. Fire away...........

RE: Lost a plane today
I have not sat and read all of this but it is from the Spektrum website. I don't have the need to read it all because I don't use, nor plan to use, 4.8 volts for any of my rx requirements. The little bit of extra cost for a 6 + volt battery isn't worth it not to. Does it say that when using a Spektrum rx you must use something more than 4.8? No, but if you read between the lines, it does say that you'd be better off if you did. http://www.spektrumrc.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1683 Your mileage may vary..............
