RE: Thunder Tiger Odyssey
Thanks Mate - All good info to consider - Talking about high torque servo's - I have three spare servos - they are 1x Hitec HS322 HD and 2x Hitec HS422 - wonder if any of those would be OK as a sai; servo - maybe you can throw some light on that for me or maybe suggest what a suiable Hitec mode servo would be needed. Cheers, Ian

RE: Thunder Tiger Odyssey
Thanks Larry - I'll have a look at the Victoria site - I do have plenty of radio gear 'cos I'm mainly a sub man - but also have a couple of surface boats. I just have an incline to sail - bit more interest than just motoring about - well that's the idea at the minute...... you know how it goes, we get these ideas dont we? Thanks again for your interest mate, Cheers, Ian

Hi All - Just wondering if anyone has built, or can give me any info on the performance 0f the Odessey. I should mention at this stage that I have no experience with sail boats. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ian

RE: Galathee
Pete - I've managed to get a download of the Galathee manual but no written instructions - Are there some written instructions with the kit apart from the manual? (pictures only) Also I wondered about the parts list - I realise that the RX, Servos and Speed controller will NOT be in the kit, but are the switches, the motor, battery and the pump included - and is the pump a reversable one or does the air pressure push out the water when the valve is opened? Finally, am I right in thinking that the on/off switch has to be accessed by taking the front cover off? Hope you can help with this. Cheers, Ian

RE: Galathee
Thanks for that Pete - does the sub move at a reasonable speed when submerged? - the Neptune does crawl along fairly slowly. Also been wondering if the Galathee has any fail safe surfacing equioment on board - the Neptune will surface if it loses its signal or takes any water into the WTC. Like the pictures in your gallery - i reckon you've made a very good job of the subs, they look very smart . Thanks once again, Ian

RE: nikko seawolf
Hi - I don't know that particular submarine so I'm not sure which seal you're talking about but I had a similar problem with the Robbe Seawolf where the hull seals against water around the inner watertight compartment - small leakage of water is easily cured by just smearing a thin film of Vaseline on the two surfaces that meet - it stops any water getting past the rubber seal.

FP/CP
If the left stick on a mode 2 TX is used to increase the revs for lift on an FP heli - when the heli is CP the left stick alters the pitch of the rotors to give lift - but where does the throttle come in - is it mixed by the tx with the collective bit. Got me a bit puzzled. Thanks guys, Ian

It might be a silly question but....
I need to ask it ..... I've been trying to use the FMS flight sim, Ok it might not be the best in the world but I thought I'd give it a try before lashing out on something special - here's the question, I take off and go into a controlled hover - then with some forward cyclic the heli drops its nose and moves forward but if I don't do anything else (other than give it a touch of collective to stop diving into the ground, the heli climbs slightly, stops moving forward and just sort of seesaws and goes into reverse. I thought that once an amount of forward cyclic was put in, the heli would keep moving forward. Can someone explain please - I have to say this is nothing like controlling a submarine under water but even that's tricky keeping it straight and level [;)] Ian [8|]

Does anyone remember this?????
A friend of mine has dug an old RC boat out of his loft - the boat was given to him many years ago by a friend of his. The idea is that he has asked me to check out the boat and see if i can get it operational. This is what it is.... It's an Aerokits Model Fast patrol Launch designed by L J Rowell. The hull is in a sound condition but the electrics are very messy - mainly due to the fact that three AA type cells were left in the boat when it was put away. I seem to have all the original instructions, the handbook mentions a Post Office licence costing £1 - 10s - 0d lasting for three years. The transmitter is a MacGregor Codamac Model - the instructions mention that the steering control has top be pushed fully in one direction and then a button below the stick need to be pressed to alter the direction of the boat in stages. The instructions also mention something called a Minimo and a Minimite which will only give 2 or 3 positions in sequence. It seems that speed controllers haven't been invented yet, but I'm not sure. If I'd been given the boat I would gut the electrics and use some modern stuff and then use one of my TX's but I think the idea is that the grandchildren inherit the old boat which was their uncles. Does anyone remember the boat? - I'm thinking of recommending to the chap that he sells the boat to a collector and buys the kids a modern ready to go launch which will be much cheaper than me putting new gear in then him having to buy a TX - I can't see modern kids wanting to fiddle about with this old type TX. Any comments would really be appreciated. Ian

RE: how do i make the robbe seawolf dynamicly dive
The Robbe Seawolf kit IS a dynamic diver - in case you haven't seen one you just ballast the sub well down in the water until the decks are awash - then after setting the front dive planes slightly down (with a mechanical adjustment) just move the sub forward slowly to stay on the surface then speed up and down she goes. There is an option to have the rear planes fixed, but I would recommend having a servo to operate them - it makes the dive and recovery much easier. By the way when you slow the boat down while travelling under water she just pops up again anyway. Hope this is of some help. Ian

RE: Seawolf Afloat
Hmmm... I thought the Nikko version could just be pulled under water vertically by using the motor under the Hull, then kept stationary at a given depth. Must have got the wrong idea - I'm happy with my Robbe Seawolf at the moment even though it's a dynamic diver - but I'm always looking for something new (but not too complicated) My dream is a U47 WW2 Sub with the guns and deck railings etc but I'm not sure I've got the patience to do one - but we'll see later....

The 2004 version of the Nikko Seawolf looks OK - does it perform like the older version as a static diver with a motor under the hull, and does it have a reasonable range? Ian

RE: Seawolf Afloat
Hi Sunktwice - Well I reckon you've had the sort of luck that Sonnich gets - but at least he manages to get his sub back each time. I think you'll like the Seawolf - it's quite robust and likes to pop back up to the surface fairly easily - I don't think you would damage the WTC unless there was a major mishap. Some folk convert the Seawolf into a static diver - there's a good thread on here if you want to take a look for later - it's www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=302419 ... but I'm happy with mine as dynamic for the time being, at least it pops back to the surface when I shut the throttle down. Good luck with it anyway mate. Ian

RE: Seawolf Afloat
Hi Sonnich - Nice pictures but you do seem to be having a run of bad luck at the moment. I finally got the seawolf nicely ballanced - I just speed up the boat and it goes into a gentle dive then I leave the throttle alone and just glide along using the rear planes for the depth. I've just got back from having a long weekend in London - while I was there I visited the boat section of the Science Museum, it was really interesting to see the submarine developments - there was a model of a modern sub and it looked just like the Seawolf - and there was a model Diorama of it at sea and the decks were just awash with the nose just under the surface. - just like the Seawolf is when travelling. The last time I went to the club I did notice a rock in the bottom of our pond so I'll have to get it shifted before I forget about it. Anyway I feel confident with the sub now - here's a picture of my Sub drivers hat.....[:D] Ian

A word of warning....
At last I've got my sub correctly weighted and can now drive it straight and level a couple of feet under water - went to the club pond today and had some really great testing time. BUT.... after a while I got myself tangled again in the dreaded weed, this time it stopped the sub dead. I tried to drive out of it but the sub would not respond forward - nor would it go in reverse although I could hear the motor turning, eventually I got the boat out of the pond by lassoing it with a length of cord. (Now maybe this is a common problem but I've never heard of it happening before,) when I got it on the stand to free the massive clump of weed I found that while the powerful motor had been turning in reverse it had actually unscrewed the prop and forced it against the rear dive plane which was by then badly twisted but luckily returned to shape when the pressure was taken off it. So, sub drivers beware... Ian
