Blade CX Transmitter
I have asked this question in RCC and also to Horizon Hobby, seems no one can help, so let's ask it again. I have an old Blade CX that has come to the end of its useful life, the Transmitter 72mhz is in great shape. I am thinking that it would be a shame to throw it out as I have several other helis and park flyers that would benefit from its use. The question is how do I use it with a Hitec receiver, Supreme IIS 8ch FM DC Univ, have tried using the crystals from the CX, no go. Can anyone tell me what crystals to buy, if any, to use this transmitter. Thanks.

RE: Unionville Beaver 8' Kit tips
Received my 8' unionville Beaver here today, opened the box and checked the contents, wing ribs are very well produced no crushing at all, wing tips are plastic or similar material, cowl is strong and well finished, and all the Balsa is of good quality. After making copies of the plans, I like to have a set filed , a set for working on, a set for hanging on the wall as a reference and a set to cut if needed, cost $20 to copy, great security measure, After reading the instructions through, and setting up the wing plan on the table (8x4') covered with saran wrap, I started the build, I realize now that the instructions are vague, and that is being generous, this is a real builders kit, but with patience and a lot of reading and re-reading I am sure it will come together, though I must admit to being a little terrified by the project. I will post some photos as i go (hopefully)

RE: Auctioning off the Radio Spectrum.
ORIGINAL: Hughes500E do you guys always assume? Think about it, a hundred million 72Mhz radios out there and you guys think they're just going to allocate the frequency's to something else [:o] What exactly do you think they would do with them? The largest danger is complacency and this is happening right now at events. Help establish a consistent approach for 72Mhz users so we do not help statistically if it ever gets to the table.
that's exactly what the CBers thought, and Ham Operators have been constantly working to keep the frequencies they have for years, If the IC sees a drop in usage you can bet they will try and re-allocate.

RE: How is your generic chinese engine so far ?
First I am a total newbie to gas motors, have been flying glows of all sorts for years, so this was a totally new experience for me, After much research and arm twisting (the wifes not mine) i decided on a DL50, all the information i could find out about it led me to believe it was a solid engine and with it's apparent easy starting properties seemed to fit the bill, I have a SIG Sun Dancer ARF and it seemed to be a reasonable choice for that . fueled her up, choke on, flicked her over ten flicks to get the fuel to the carb, ignition on, third flick it fired, choke off, first flick it fired and ran steady @ 1750-1820 rpm, took it up to 3000rpm and ran a tank of gas through it, next time i blipped the throttle a few times and then opened it wide, no hesitation 7500+ steady. transition was great. It seems that all i was told was true am now looking forward to maidening the plane. I know i have nothing to compare with this, but if this is gas engine land sign me up.

RE: SIG Sun Dancer ARF
Thanks for the rundown, SIG have been really great with help. they emailed me a copy of the Manual, gave me a breakdown of all the parts i was missing with prices. absolutely fantastic customer service. Mind you I have owned and built six of their planes, so maybe they owe me, I have now ground those pieces of balsa out and the wing sits almost flat on the struts will do some final tweaking when i get my incidence meter, and i am going to see if i can add some epoxy to the wing joint on the lower wing and snug it together a bit tighter, it looks as if the right tip is about a 1/4 low. thanks again PR,

RE: SIG Sun Dancer ARF
ORIGINAL: rcluver I just looked through the manual of my Sundancer, and I cannot remember my wing looking like that. Almost looks like the wood was stripped out by over tightening the screw. Looks like that is how the guy tried to fix it. On my Sundancer the wing was solid in that area, with a hole drilled where you were to screw in that bolt. Yours looks like the sheeting has been cut away. According to the manual, the top wing incedence should be 0 degrees, and my wing tips are not pulled down at the tips. Hope this helps.
my mistake luver[:D]. it was a free gift and the person who started putting it together was a bit sloppy, never mind we will sort it and i am sure it will become a favourite flyer. PR

RE: SIG Sun Dancer ARF
My apologies guys, i forgot there are more than one Sun Dancer Yes Jim it is a 72" Sun Dancer, I think the person who put it together did it more to sit it on a shelf than fly, the top wing was bent down slightly at each tip, but thankfully not epoxied well, so i was able to reglue it and straighten it, the bottom wing i think is fairly well put together, but will check the incidence on it when i get my meter. and see if it will open up at the centre and allow the intro of more epoxy. the manual i have (courtesy SIG) gives no indication of the correct amount of dihedral on the lower wing, it is a push fit with dihedral braces. so should be fairly idiot proof. any tips you can remember from yours would be helpful. What engine did you use/. and how did it fly. I am using a Brillelli 50cc gasser and HiTec HS646MS servos, Thanks PR

SIG Sun Dancer ARF
Was recently given this plane, it has been sort of put together but obviously by someone with little experience, the manual is very sketchy in the area of the top wing mounting to the Fuse, the picture shows (poorly) that there has been a piece of balsa put under the aluminium joiner , is that correct?. i have no info on this in the manual, it would seem that it lifts the top wing high so the cabane struts are pulling the wing tips down, gut feeling is it shouldn't be there but i don't know so am asking. Thanks.

RE: Battery cycling
"I had a bit of a dig around the net and couldn't find any charge leads with that little white connector that the JR TX batteries use so is there some way of making up my own lead if I have to?" most remote/cordless phones have that white connector, anywhere that sells those phones and or batteries commonly have them in a scrap bin if you ask for them, the only thing you have to do is cut them off close to the battery and observe polarity when you connect them up. i use a little dab of solder and cover with heat shrink tube, works fine, i have made four packs lately for friends with JR radios . hope it helps.

RE: Four Star 60 building. By a 54 year old beginner.
Just finished my second 4*60, typical great SIG quality, this one will have a Saito 100 up front, the first had a GMS 76, now in my Kadet Senior float plane, you can give yourself a rousing cheer, that is a masterpiece, I build stand off scale, the further you stand off the better it looks, as long as they are straight and not warped I like them.

RE: K&B 65 Sportster
ORIGINAL: aerowoof where was the muffler pressure tap?when these first came out there was no pressure tap on the muffler.tose that added a tap found that putting it near the end of the muffler llike os engines had problems due to the internal muffler baffle..solution was to either remove the baffle or move the tap infront of the first baffle.
it was in the first section of the muffler right beside the port so was getting the full benefit of the back pressure, part of the problem was too much fuel and perhaps that was the cause, took hours of messing around to get it half decent, of course now i'm dubious about putting it in a plane, there will be a lot of bench testing done before i fly it. and it has to get a lot better in transition, will keep running it and see how it goes.

RE: K&B 65 Sportster
little better today, took the spray bar to pieces and realigned the outer sleeve, the orifice was facing the front of the engine, it now faces down into the carb. ran a little better at least it would keep running while the glow igniter was in situ, still wouldn't transition though. next i removed the fuel tubing and went with connectors to hold larger ID tube tight to the nipple, a little better transition still a bit sloppy though, last thing to try was the pressure feed to the tank from the muffler, removed that and now i have an engine that will run, transitions reasonably well, it is fairly new, and no longer has me tearing my hair out, hope this helps someone else in a similar position, amazing that so much had to be done to get it running, and though a lot of people have commented on the motor and its good/bad points no one said a thing about the pressure, makes one wonder?.

RE: K&B 65 Sportster
tried every prop in the box from 11x8 right up to16x4 no difference, on the 65 the disk is the complete needle valve assembly?. if that is right it is just a push fit in the carb, i tried opening the low end screw an extra turn before replacing the disk but i think that could cause an air leak?. in any case it made no difference, really getting to me this motor, have had hard ones before and managed to get them right but this one is killing me. lol

K&B 65 Sportster
anyone have any input on these motors, i have bought one NIB cheap and can't get it to run properly, starts at about half throttle with the needle valve open 5 turns, revs and then dies, if you try moving the throttle no response at all, it appears to be getting plenty of fuel , no air bubbles, 13x6 prop, taken it all to pieces and checked the seals and the needle valve assembly all seem perfect. when it is running if you try to richen /lean it it revs and bogs down , almost as if the needle is bent, but it is as square as i can make out. really don't want to give up on it but it is trying my patience. Thanks...

RE: windows vista
ORIGINAL: ELITE913 i was thinking of upgrading vista and i heard that Microsoft is slowly working out the bugs. i was running the system check for it and it said it would work except it said that my video card might not support windows aero. what is aero? can i disable that function and still use vista? my video card seems to work well with games that it doesn't support. i just click the "run anyway" button. will i still be able to do that with vista? my computer has an intell mobile 128mb graphics card (NOT upgradeable as it is integrated onto the motherboard), 2GB of RAM, 120GB hard disk, 1.73Ghz processor.
unfortunately MS is slowly still working out bugs in 95, they do this by presenting another buggy OS and call it the next best thing to sliced bread, unfortunately we sheep keep believing them, time after time, if you really want a system that works get a Mac, IMHO your present processor is marginal for Vista, the video ram is also marginal, good amount of ram, you are looking at a new mobo, which means the processor probably won't be usable, and of course the video now needs to be pcexpress or some other expensive variant, you will probably find that in the long run, $1600 on a new Imac with OSX Tiger on board will be a better bet, the new Leopard OS is coming out in October which by all accounts will put MS in the shade, and it will work. Please don't ask me how i know this, I used to believe in MS [&o]

RE: Resolving close fields interference issues
This situation will only get worst, more and more people are buying into the park flyer planes, typically they find a park and throw a plane, albeit mostly light foamies, without much thought as to where others are, then there are the clubs that restrict the membership to such a low number and high cost that the average joe on the street either cant afford it , or if they can and manage to join ,find they can hardly fly at all because of club restrictions or lack of instructors.and of course then you get the "Old Boys" clubs who just take one look at a prospective flier and put the cold shoulder on them for no more reason than they are young and fly electrics, or require some help to learn. personally i think we are our own worst enemies in these cases, we have the ability in our clubs to be welcoming and helpful , but in all too many instances we don't , but then bitch and complain because someone who wants to fly does in "OUR SPACE" Just my personal thoughts, i am a renegade i fly where ever i can find a piece of suitable ground, the only concession i make is a DX7 as a TX , that is my only option as i see given my location.
