Well, no, because then it (or rather they) would be upside down. [;)] Duh... I just realised what they look like - they can't actually *be* "upside down".

RE: This is weird...
OK, thanks. I'll look into it. It's been a couple of weeks since I installed the new radio, so I can't remember whether in fact I already tried various ways of hooking up the receiver, but apparently I've missed something. Thanks for the tip.

This is weird...
I recently installed a smoke system in my Hangar 9 Extra 260, and since I was using a Hitec Optic 6, I suddenly found myself one channel short: my Extra is set up with one channel for each control surface (ailerons, two elevator halves, rudder) and obviously one for the throttle, which equals six channels. This was a good excuse to buy a decent transmitter (not that there is anything wrong with the Optic 6), so I purchased a JR DSX9. I removed the Hitec receiver and installed the receiver that came with the DSX9. Here’s the weird part: I run two JR heavy duty switches on my Extra (for redundancy), and after installing and setting up my new radio system, I noticed that both switches had changed, so that “off is now “on, and vice versa. I had a hard time convincing my friends that this was in fact so; they looked at me as if I was drunk or something. How do you explain this change? I tried to take pictures on one of the switches and the volt watch, but they turned out somewhat blurry. What I’m trying to illustrate is that when the switch is in the “off position, the volt watch is “on. RE: From Beginner to EXPERT?
I don't think there are any rules (but I may be dead wrong). If you want to call yourself an expert, then go ahead and do so, if it makes you feel better. A "beginner" is somewhat easier to define, as the term is self-explanatory, but "intermediate" and "expert" are more subjective. I consider myself a pretty good flyer and call myself "intermediate".

RE: On board camera
It does work, although it's not ideal for a plane, since you have to mount it upright. Here's a first attempt with this camera mounted on a Multiplex FunJet (sorry about the boring landscape). Later, I realised that it was much easier to make a hole in the fuselage and mount the camera with only the top part sticking out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK2c3I2Kjaw I bought it from here: http://modelaero.com/Merchant5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=CAM&Category_Code=ACC

RE: Antenna wire routing
I see your point. If you do fly around in a circle and, on top of that, constantly aim your antenna at the aircraft as you follow it around, then you might not get the best signal, but it will still be good enough not to matter. However, I'm not sure that people 'generally' fly around in circles.

RE: Antenna wire routing
ORIGINAL: MinnFlyer The antenna routed externally to the fin is a remnant from the days when radios were not very dependable (I'm talking 40 or 50 years ago), but old habits die hard.
I've noticed on several occasions that my range check results have been somewhat on the crappy side when I've routed my antenna inside the fuselage in a pushrod tube. When I've subsequently re-routed the antenna outside the fuselage (to the fin, for instance, or simply attached to the bottom of the fuselage), the range check results have been noticeably better. Sure, inside the fuselage the antenna might be somewhat closer to metal pushrods and stuff, but it's hard to see why such a small change would have such noticeable results. It surprises me every time (and apparently, I'm a slow learner [:)])

RE: Prime cowled engine
Surely carb wide open + covered exhaust pipe + starter for a few seconds should do the trick? That's the way I always do it, and it works like a charm; I have more than "limited success". Perhaps you're simply priming your engines too little, or too much? Try applying the starter for different lengths of time and see what works best.
