RE: .........
Mine is almost switched over to CPX. I am just waiting on a new motor and ESC should be any day now. I used my HDX 450SE V5 head and tail and all my servos. Just got to checking my pitch last night and I am at -10 and +5. Got to check the settings on my DX6i and them possible adjust my head a bit. I do like the EXI frame. It was easy to put it all together. Hope to have it up and flying this weekend.

RE: .........
Just got an email. My package should be here tomorrow. Unfortunately I wont be able to start the work on it untill thursday night. To much going on at work. I'm not in a huge hurry anyways my new gyro should be showing up later on in the week anyways. I will definately have to start with loc tite on everything. I learned that lesson early on when I spun up a new head and a screw flew out at 2/3 throttle. Never found it, but it did scare me bouncing all over the place. Now loc tite is never more than an arms length away when working on any bird.

RE: .........
Biker Dude thanks for the recomendation. I went with the EXI 450. You were right it has everything that I wanted to make mine into and it was about the same price. I had secretely been thinking that I would eventually have to switch to a differant frame. Don't worry though I still have a HBK to keep the esky blood there. Now hopefully it will arrive soon and I can start moving everything over and resetting all the linkages again. One thing that I have definately learned is how to set up my linkages. I have decided that I am better at fixing than flying so far.

Philly, that is a HDX450SE v5 head. Put it on last spring and love it. I got the tail to match it both are great. Biker, your reasoning is sound. I am going to have to investigate further. Thank You.

Wow it has been quiet in here lately. I was thinking of switching to a carbon frame and have a question. I did the DTS mod last fall and love it and want to keep it. Will I have to cut up the carbon frame to keep the mod? Or is there a kit for it? Any input on this is appreciated.

RE: .........
I am still working it out but I am close. I think that I have it fixed now I am just trying to get it all set up again. I swear every time I do something I have to re set it to zero. This time I am learning from past mistakes though. So in the end it is a good experiance. Maybe I will be able to fly it by the weekend. As far as your nose visibility problem goes mine is easy to see. I have a shark faced nose cone. There is no mistaking it for the tail even at a distance.

RE: .........
I was using the shaft that came with the HDX head and tail kit. It is a little longer than the ESKY maing shaft. I will be taking my time over the next couple of days getting it all centered and then I will have to adjust the travel through my DX6I to keep it from going to far. In the meanwhile I will be looking for a slightly longer main shaft. Perhaps I will have to have one of two made at a local machine shop. While I find that one I will become intimately familliar with my radio and dialing it in.

RE: .........
I had the idea of raising the head about 1/4 inch by drilling another hole through the main shaft a little higher. Would that cause any problems with the head? I think that there still should be enough support for the head. This should give me enough clearance untill I get a longer main shaft. What do you all think?

RE: .........
Ok the conversion is complete. All 3 servos are in place and seem to be functioning very well. Now that I am trying to set the head with this new setup I am having problems. BTW I am using a HDX 450SE V4 head and tail. I can get the swash level and the blades at zero pitch a mid stick no problem. Problem is at full stick I was hitting the swash mix on the head. Basically I was at 5 degrees full stick and at over 13 degrees at zero stick. Tried shortening my links and it helped on the bottom end but the top is till hitting. So my question is this. Is my main shaft too short? Should I get a differant main shaft or am I missing something? Those of you who have a HDX head on your CP can you tell me what your head height is at mid throttle? I am getting a little worried. Oh also I am using a DX6i radio if that has any bearing.

RE: .........
Finally just got my servos in today. Now I am up to my elbown in servos and wires and links. I decided while I am at it to hook up the servos so that they are directly linked to the swash. Here goes nothing. I will take some pics when I am finished.

Believe it or not I totally understand your situation. I just moved back to the states from Germany. Things took soooo long to get over there. The local stores never had anything for my Belt CP either. That is exactly why I was ordering extra of everything. Because it tooktoo long to get my stuff.

Sorry it was late at night and I forgot a part of the name.It is a HDX 450SE v4. Try searching this instead and it will more than likely come up. I just looked and there were several links for them out there. If for some reason you cannot find one ty a v5.

RE: .........
There are alot of head/tails that are compatible. I have used a couple of differant ones and my experiance was not good until I got a HDX 450v4 head and tail. They mounted easily and work perfectly. My bird is a V1 and not a V2 but there should be no differance with the head and tail.

RE: .........
Thanks Tink and Philly. Fortunatelly I already have a DX6I so I have a good TX/RX. I checked out my tail and from what I could see there wasn't any slop in there like your video had. If I get time later this morning I will take a video and put it up for you to see. I am still thinking that it is the servo. I disconnected the motor and the servo/gyro was acting erratic without anything spinning. My rudder is basically going full left and full right on its own. Its not just a wag unfortunately. I'll get a video of it so that you can see what I mean. Troy

RE: .........
I am starting to feel like I will never fly this bird. I just unpacked it last week after it being packed up overseas for 2.5 months. Then I had all that trouble with the tail. Just got the hdx450se v4 tail yesterday. Now I am trying to get it tuned up and I think that my gyro might be bad. I had it on my turntable to test it. Spooled it up and it was spinning counterclockwise so I trimmed it up got to zero. Just then it started swinging wildly back and forth. It was like the gyro had gone mad and was compensating for an imaginary buffeting. It is a telebee gr302-ad head lock gyro. I wanted to fly tomorrow before I go to school for the next 6 weeks. But it looks like I won't be flying anytime soon. Any ideas? Is my gyro bad or am I crazy?

RE: .........
Wow all I can say is Wow. I just got the absolute worst customer service EVER while trying to track my order for my new tail. Turns out that they never shipped it. Fortunatelly for me they hadn't shipped it. These guys were horrible. I not only had them cancel my order but I asked them to remove my name and record from their database as well. I made the order over a week ago and it still hadn't shipped. So just a warning to all you out there TrendTimes.com isn't a good place to shop. I have since changed my ways and tried #1 USHobby and was forced to go to #2 HeliDirect to get it fast. Funny thing is after overnight shipping it is still 15$ cheaper. I did have to settle for the HDX450 v4 tail though. The V3s just arent available any more, and the V5s are identical. So lesson learned. When shopping for older parts if there is only 1 place left that carries them take notice and find a new version.

Hooray I just got all my stuff delivered yesterday and found my Helis today. I havent seen them since January. A good sight for sore eyes. I am waiting for me new tail to be delivered hopefully in the next few days. Now that I am back in the States I want to see an actual brick and mortar store. Does anyone out there know a R/C store in the Augusta area?

RE: .........
I have realflight also and I chose phoenix. I got the beta version online and although my experiance is limited so far on it I am not seeing any bugs yet. What I like about phoenix over Realflight so far are a few things. First, I don't have to hit a reset button if I crash and I don't have to have a template handy for all the key controls. Phoenix is easier with the operation. Second thing I like is that I can use my own radio. To me the controller for Realflight doesn't feel right. I wanted to be able to use my own radio so that I could get used to operating it. Don't get me wrong Realflight is a good product. But even after an hour on Phoenix I already feel more confident. As far as the physics go I think that they are pretty equal. The flight areas in Realflight so far are more varied and better. Hope this helps. Does anyone else feel the way I do?

So my phoenix pro flight sim came in the mail today. And I am totally exited. I know that many of you have the same sim as well. My question is which heli in the sim is closest to the Belt CP? I have only had a little time to poke around so far. I am going to hit their website tonight to see what downloads are available.

After much looking, and I mean a lot of searches I found 1 retailer that still sells the 450se v3 tail assembly. Now all I have to do is wait for uncle sam to give me my money back. The site that has it is www.trendtimes.com i don't know about the shipping yet and I can't see a picture to see if it is black or not but they have em and I am encouraged. To find that I had to find a manual for the original heli and do a search for their part number. I don't know why I didn't do it before.

So I just did my taxes today and hooray I am getting a return this year. So now I am looking for a new tail assembly. Someone was saying that the HDX450se v3 is the way to go. I already have the v4 head. The big problem is I don't know where to find one. Any help would be appreciated. I am also looking for suggestions on new servos. I have a Spektrum dx6i and want to go with digital servos. So what would you buy if you had to replace yours?

RE: .........
I agree with phillyD. Just upgrade your Belt CP with good quality stuff and it will keep flying better and better. I upgraded my radio to a DX6I and my head to a HDX450SE v4. Couple that with a nice shiny new set of blades and it has never flown better. My next purchase will be a set of digital servos. If you do this you will not regret it one bit. Now all I have to do is wait to reunite with my heli. It is somewhere on a boat in the atlantic. I will not see it untill April when I show up in Augusta GA. Thank goodness for the sim. Troy

Good news. I am going to be returning to the states in March. Going to be close to Augusta GA for a while. Hope that I can find some good hobby shops there. That way I can see what I am buying before I order online, or get that emergency part. I havent been able to fly lately the weather has been uncooperative. The SIM is getting a run for its money though.

Well I am back from 2 weeks in the mountains of Germany with no internet and no phones either. Fortunately it was unseasonably warm. I cam home to a new battery and a new charger as well. The charger is a Imax B6. After doing a little research and looting around in my box of spare AC adaptors I have it charging. I am aware of its shortcomings and limitations but it will have to do for now. All I know is that it works and I might be flying tomorrow if time permits.here is to hope. Troy

RE: .........
Well I played around with the settings on the TX a bit. I reset the throttle curve to factory orig 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 and now my pitch is at +12 and -10. So just to see how it all is holding together I put it on my turntable and spun it up. It has a very slight wobble in the beginning but aside from that it seems great. Unfortunately the battery was too far gone to do much else. So now I will go out to the field for training for the next two weeks and everything will be waiting for me when I get back. Too bad they do not overnight stuff to us over here in Germany.
