RE: Most Blatant
My 3 My 3 cents worth: I’ve been involved with RC for about thirty years. The first fifteen I purchased products from my local hobby stores. Then the internet arrived and I could find greater selection at better prices. I purchased via the web for about ten years with little dollars going to my LHS. Within the past five years or so, I realized I was sending my dollars out of state and not supporting my local community. Now, I purchase from my LHS 100%. If they don’t have it, they will get it for me. I know many of you do not have a LHS with a good product selection or the store could is 90 miles away from you. I’m lucky enough to drive 10 minutes and find what I need. If I stop buying from my LHS, I’m one less customer the local business owner relies on to succeed in my community. Every time I walk in the store, it feels like Christmas. I can’t put a price on that J Every person…and every dollar counts. Yes, I do purchase products made outside of the U.S. but I try to buy American when possible. Not just at my LHS, but with all my purchases. I noticed A123 Systems is not on the “U.S.” list of manufacturers. They have an automotive solutions group just north of Detroit. I’m always happy to drive past the building and smile knowing I purchase batteries they manufacture. Oh, and they are exceptional! A123 Corporate Headquarters is located in Waltham, Massachusetts This message is brought to you in good will and good spirits. Perhaps purchasing from your LHS and NOT HK will resolve the hard feelings you have against the company. Personally, I have never made a purchase from them and will continue on the path of local support for my community. Okay, that was 10 cents. But I feel better and hope I helped a LHS owner get a new customer. Clear skies to all -PD

RE: Battery Charger (what's everyone using)
snir2001 Date 6/27/2012 2:25 PM Hi rebellion, The Hitec chargers are the SAME as HobbyKing Quattro from hobbyking, so if you want a charging station, go for this one: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10327__HobbyKing_Quattro_4x6S_Lithium_Polymer_Multi_Charger_.html You will get it for 2/3 of the Hitec price.... Ummmm, no. They are not the "SAME". Software, hardware, temperature probe ports, cooling systems, cables and balancing boards are completely different. The Hitec charger does an excellent job of balancing the cells. Checkout the reviews regarding the HK. I always charge my Lipo batteries 1C, balanced, on concrete, outdoors with a welding blanket. My 2 cents. -PD

RE: Wing Tube Straighten
I don’t know the diameter of your tube but I have a Sig Somethin’ Extra utilizing a piece of ¾” EMT. A 10’ stick can be purchased from Home Depot, etc. for about $4. It's in the electrical department. Just cut to length with a hacksaw. Hope this helps. -PD

Receiver antenna orientation
Flying fixed wing, sport aircraft with electric motor. The center tube for the main wings is made of CARBON FIBER. Aircraft weight is 3 lbs. and cruising airspeed is 35 mph. The transmitter is Futaba 7C. The receiver is Futaba R6106HFC 6-Channel 2.4GHz FASST. I can easily place the Futaba R6106HFC receiver antenna through the bottom of the airplane and expose it to the environment. The antenna would be pointed toward the earth during flight and not in a fixed horizontal position within the airframe. Is this a bad idea or a good idea? I did a range check, no problems. I thought I would ask before taking her to the skies tomorrow. Thanks. -PD

RE: Interesting experience with Tower Hobbies
I’ve purchased from Tower for more than ten years and NEVER had a problem. I purchased a 7C transmitter a few months ago and the antenna bushing was missing. First I contacted Futaba and they informed me they recently modified the 7C antenna (now shorter) and forgot to install the bushing in my transmitter. I contacted Tower and they paid for the return shipping to Futaba Repair department. I received updates almost daily regarding the progress of the repair. A few weeks ago I ordered 3, 3s 2500 FlightPower Lipos and one of them had a bad cell upon delivery. I called tower and they rushed a new battery to me at no cost. Also, I didn’t need to send the bad battery back…how convenient! Tower = Great! No worries, you will be taken care of! Clear skies to all, enjoy the weekend -PD
