RE: Panzerkampfwagen M4A1(76)W - Founding Fathers - Build
ORIGINAL: pattoncommander Very nice job James. What unit....was this a Marine tank? Normally yellow was a Marine marking. Great weathering and stowage.
No Marines in the ETO and to the best of my knowledge the first Shermans the Marines got were A2s for several reasons, not the least of which was that diesel was easier to get from ship's stores than MOGAS. On that note: any plans for an A2 in the future? I like the stowage gear and the weathering. You did a great job with those.

Snowed last winter in southern Riverside County in Ca. But, that's a different discussion. SNOWTANK, you mentioned testing the gears on 45 degree ramps. Did you upgrade the motors or gearboxes? Or is everything stock? How did it perform on your climbing tests? Looks like it climbed that rock pretty well.

Been doing an internet search over the past couple of days and here is what I have found: Graupner Speed400 http://www.nesail.com/detail.php?productID=2217 ($15.25) http://www.newcreations-rc.com/ProductDetails.aspx?itemnumber=GR1794 ($7.90) http://www.hobby-lobby.com/speed_400_7.2v_electric_motor_2565_prd1.htm ($7.90) http://www.icare-rc.com/brushed_motor.htm ($9.38) http://www.funrcboats.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=GR1794 ($7.90) Also, www.etoarmour.com plans to carry them sometime soon, according to their website. Hobby Lobby is out of stock. I ordered mine 6 weeks ago and still haven't gotten them. When I emailed them a couple of days go, they indicated it would still be another couple of weeks.

RE: T-34 Idler Wheel adjuster
ORIGINAL: RSEA
ORIGINAL: Panther F I've often wondered that question too, maybe because the T34 wasn't considered a real attempt and too toy like with the electronics.
This past summer I asked Impact why they don't make TUs and metal tracks for the T34. They said it is not cost effective to make TUs and metal tracks for ''cheap toy tanks''. Followed by, ''when Tamiya produces a T34 F/O kit, we will make TUs and metal tracks for it, but not until then.'' Yet they make metal tracks for the HL Panzer III, isn't that a cheap toy tank? Maybe they consider the Wasan/Torro T34 to be even more toyish and too cheap to fool around with. When it comes to the stock T34 drivetrain at least, I think their probably right.
That's the same response that I got when I asked when they were going to finish their metal tracks and sprockets for the HL Bulldog. It was listed on their Yahoo Groups webpage as "delayed" or something like that. I think that they have since then removed it.

If the gearbox output shaft seems too long, it sounds like you might have gotten the gearboxes that are for the Pershing or the Bulldog. Measure their length and post the measurements. Anyone that has a Bulldog or Pershing could verify it for you.

Blitz is right. Just took mine off. They weren't glued, but one was tighter than the other and took a little more pulling. Might also help to remove the tracks first.

RE: Modern area tank ?
Several of the HL tanks have quite a few upgrade options that are made and sold by 3d party vendors. Unfortunately, the Bulldog is one of those tanks with lots of upgrade options. It's great tank and I enjoy running it. But, if you're looking for the expansive options available like those available for HL's Tiger or PzIII, then you'll be disappointed.

RE: M41A3 Bulldog - Mythical USMC Build
So, I've finished my move and have my stuff back. We're in the house now and more or less settled. This means that I have my tanks and tools back. So, I'm going to do a little more work on this tank. First, I'm going to take the springs off and try again. The stiffness is perfect. But, I'm not happy with the outer diameter of the springs; they almost slip over the plastic top. So, I'm going to try some narrower outer diameters. Staying with the 19-gage, though. And, I'll probably shorten it just a little...probably closer to 1/2" or 5/8". The last ones weren't quite even and one track was stretched a little tighter than the other. Meanwhile, after the move, I was able to get some metal tracks (smoke colored version) from RCCommand. I was temporarily away from home for training; so, on my time off, I got some Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner (in the aerosol can) and used it to paint on rubber pads. I used cheap kids paint brushes - small ones like for water colors - and sprayed it into a plastic cup to paint it on the tracks. The tracks were fully assembled when I did this, which is why I needed paint brushes. In retrospect, the pads would have probably gone on more evenly (right now there is a rounded hump in the middle) and quickly if I had dissembled each link, placed them in a line in cardboard, taped everything I didn't want painted and then sprayed the stuff on directly. As it was it took 5 coats before I thought it was good enough. Hopefully, they'll hold up to driving on them. Speaking of that, anyone know which side has the burrs on the track pins? If you're looking at the picture with the tracks running top to bottom, would the burred end be on the right or the left of the picture? I guess I could use trial and error, but if someone already knows, that will save me the risk of damaging a pin.

Ern, glad to see that it works well and the size looks perfect. However, the laser is where the gunner's sight was. The other side of the gun tube where the LED is right now is where the coax gun should be, assuming you're using the laser to double as a coax gun simulation.

I was thinking about using some bird shot in small 1/2-oz baggies and adding them incrementally. I was going to glue the baggies to the bottom just behind the front glacis. I haven't done it yet, though. As far as how much, do a search for swathdiver's M41 build. I think that he recommended 8 oz for stock plastic everything and 16-oz of weight for metal everything.

RE: M41a3 Metal Tracks, I stick with the plastic
Several people on this forum have used the upgraded PzIII springs in the Bulldog with success. I'm experimenting with different sized (length & inner diameter) 19-guage springs in my tank. It will have steel gears and metal tracks on it. So, we'll see how it holds up.
