RE: Maiden my Escapade...
ORIGINAL: tness Hello everyone. I'm getting ready this weekend to maiden my Escapade. I have it balanced, everything checked out, all of the throws correct, etc. I have to say, I crashed my Kaos do to equipment malfunction the last time I flew, so I'm a bit gun shy here. I bought my Kaos from someone else at the club, so it had already been flown many times before I started flying it a year and a half ago. This will be the first time I maidened an aircraft(save for the foamy park fliers I've flown in the past), and coming off of my first major crash, I'm a bit nervous. Anyone have any tips, ideas, etc. for me to do to have a successful maiden flight? I know the obvious; just take it up and fly it gently until you get used to it, etc. One of the old guys in our club who doesn't fly anymore for health reasons(he's the one who taught me to fly) used to say put a little up elevator trim in it because you can always take that out easier than when you have to put it in to keep it in the air. Just curious as to what you all do to have successful maiden flights. Thanks. Tarry.
Just be sure to balance your plane also laterally. This will help you with the ailerons and rudder triming. Happy Landings

Gasser Set Up question
Hello I got a 50cc with a wolverine switch with 3 JR connector output and on the pervious system I plugged each JR output into a Y harness on one end and a servo on the other end. My question is if I can set up my plane using the same system with a R6208SB. Is the channel8/B the only power imput or can I use any channel or in my case 3 channels for power imput. Also how many amps can the receiver bus handle.

RE: World Models Spot-On 120
Hi Adrian: Yes I feel the material brittle, the first canopy came off on flight because it cracked from one of the screws, the second one during a flight got a big crack also from one of the screws. In both cases I have secured the canopy with the screws provided by TWM, and double sided tape to seal any gap betwen the fuselage and the canopy and reinforce the screw holes. Maybe an after market canopy would be better. What after market canopy did you install? Thanks for the help Luis

RE: World Models Spot-On 120
ORIGINAL: riot3d I received the next generation Spot-On from World Models a few weeks before my trip to Hong Kong, and started working on the plane right a way. Originally, I was planning on finishing the plane in two weeks time for a test flight. Unfortunately, due to my busy practice schedule, I couldn't get it done before my departure. Since this is an evolution of the first generation Spot-On, I wasn't planning on a complete build thread. For that, you can check out my previous post, and should you have any question, feel free to contact me. Although, the model is still under the name Spot-On 120. Realistically, this is actually their ''R'' version - Revised. Externally, you will not be able to tell much difference. However, if you look closer, you could tell it is slightly smaller than the last one. The fuse and wing span is 40 mm & 20 mm shorter respectively, and the wing area is 0.4 sq dm smaller. The major advantage is you are now able to use a YS 110 with enough power to spare even for the vertical maneuvers. Another reason was, I have expressed to Fai Chan - my good friend and one of the owner of World/ Airborne Models - the lack of suitable engine choice for the original design. If you want to be competitive, you have to find either an older YS 120 size engine, or, use an OS 120 AX. If you use one of the new YS 140 Sport, or, 140L in my case, you will ended up nose heavy. Besides, in Japan, they have a special pattern class dedicated to 110 size plane, and the older 120 was just over the size limit. Besides a small size reduction, World has also incorporated a few of my suggestions which include the following:- 1) A smaller soft mount to save weight 2) A round shape bottom chin cowl to accommodate the Hatori header and short pipe 3) Fuel tank has been relocate to the cg area, rather than right behind the firewall 4) A one piece wooden push rod for the elevator control Unfortunately, they are still using the same heavy tail wheel assembly. The same stab adjuster unit, which could stripped very easily with one false move. In addition, the sharp edges on the iron on decoration will still peel easily. Other than that, not much else to complain about. At this point, Fai has not quite work out the pricing yet, but indicated most likely will be the same as the last one. I was really happy with the way the last one turn out, and was more than anxious to get my hands on this one for a test flight. Adrian
Hi Adrian: I just want to thank you for have initiated this thread, and I believe the most of us are happy with the Spot On 120 and the modifications made after your suggestions. I had the intention to install a DLE 20 in mine, because I want to keep the fuel tank in the CG location, and the OS 120 AX is not giving me the power I expected, because the fuel tank position., but I think the DLE is not the best choice of engine for a pattern plane, because of the amount of sound, and the narrow fuselage of a pattern plane does not allow a good place to install the ignition system. For that reason my son installed for me the new YS 115, and… What a combination!!!!. Is like a match made in heaven. I love that. Thanks again and Happy Landings

RE: World Models Spot-On 120
Hi guys, I’ve been flying my Spot On 120 for a couple of months, and I think that for the price is an excellent acquisition. I’m using an OS 120 AX, with a Perry oscillating pump and Omega 15% nitro, with great performance. I’m not an experimented flyer and I have been practicing the Sportsman sequence, and in my first contest I got the second place. Now after the crash of my Focus Sport, that had a DLE 20, in it, I’m thinking on a second Spot On 120, and put the DLE 20 on it. I know I will have issues because when they redesigned the Spot On 120 the DLE was not in the market, but I think the affordable fuel and the power and reliability of the engine is worth the effort. Happy Landings and enjoy the life [:D]

If you think the carb would be too close to the firewall you can increase the size of the hole in the firewall.

RE: YS .91 or Saito .82
The discussion betwen who is better Saito vs. YS is a long story and it will never end. I'm the kind of person who wants to go to field, start the engine, fly my sequences with no incidents and enjoy the fellowship. Also I prefer to talk with the friends than adjust an engine, for that reason I prefer and love the Saitos. Excuse me the analogy, the YS are like women; you have to know how to treat them and they will be happy. I know this because I have been married for more than 25 years and have had a couple of YS , and traded them for Saitos. (The engines not my wife)

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
One question. When I link an Optima 7 to my radio and press down and hold the button on the receiver both receiver LEDs are solid. The manual says the red LED has to be solid doesn't say anything about the blue LED. Is this OK or normal? The receiver connects to the radio without problems. Happy Landings

RE: World Models Spot-On 120
Hi Adrian: I have been practicing the Sportsman sequence with the 50 size version of the Spot On and I love it, but I like to compete and I think the 120 version is much better for that. I will use an OS 120 Ax (I'm in a budget here) and I have seen also the Groovy 90, that is 140.00 less and almost the same size. Since you already had a Groovy 90 Do you really think that the Spot On 120 is worth the extra 140.00? Thanks for your advice. Luis

RE: Spot On 50 Build log.
I have had both, the YS 63 and the Saito 82 on my Spot On. I felt that the Saito pulls better than the YS, and also is a lot of less trouble to adjust. With a Perry Pump I placed back the fuel tank for CG purposes and the Saito has given me more than 500 RPM with the same type of propeller (APC 13X6) an the same fuel (Powermaster 20/20). The OS. .55 AX is almost the same weight as the Saito 82 with Perry Pump. And gives you a lot of power, and is also reliable and trouble free as the the Saito, the only setback is that the time of response is less, but the price is $100.00 lower. Any way, check in the adds here in RC Universe maybe you can get a deal in one of those engines. Just my opinion.[;)] Happy Landings.

RE: Spot On 50 Build log.
For me the Saito is the best option. If you don't have enough money for a new one, here in RC Universe, you can get a used one for less. I think that the Evo .61 is going to be too heavy, I'm Using a Saito 82. 17.6 oz and I needed to add some weight in the tail (about one ounce). With an Evo .61 that is 25.44 oz you're going to have to add a lot of weigth. In that case I think that the new Evo .60 even though is going to be less powerfull (I guess) the weight is almost the same as the Saito .82 and the power/weight ratio is going to be better. Just my 2 cents. Happy Landings

RE: Spot On 50 Build log.
Hi, TomTreese I'm using a YS .63 right now with a 13x6 and 14X5N propeller. But I had also flown the Spot-On with a Saito .82 and a 14X5N propeller. For me the Saito gives her a little more power. If you like saitos I really recomend the Saito Vs. the YS. The Saito is easier to adjust and flies very nice with only 15% Nitro, the YS is more difficult to adjust, and needs at least 20% nitro. I'm flying the Spot-On with the YS because I moved the Saito to another plane. My son (he is my mechanic) intalled the engine at an angle of 90 degrees, is easier to start and have a very good ventilation in the summer (specially down here in Texas) with the transparent dummy cowl provided by World Models is easy to draw with a marker the holes for the cilynder and the needles. I'm attaching some pictures than can help you. The HS needle hole is bigger so I can reach for the LS needle with a screwdriver. Just my 2 cents. Happy Landings.
