RE: TOWER HOBBIES SUCKS
I have been a loyal customer of Tower since 1995. There have been a couple of very small issues in that period which THEY HAVE DONE AN OUTSTANDING JOB OF CORRECTING. Every retailer is going to have some difficulty and there is no way they can keep everybody satisfied. Generally when the full facts of an issue are known, the truth is it is not the reputable retailer that is at fault. TOWER, HOBBY IS GREAT.

RE: Most Blatant
Topspin, good post, good thread, regardless of what some naysayers happen to believe. Who knows, maybe they've alrady been paid for. Keep up the good work. HK has a bad rep and guys in the sport should keep pounding on it. Need more people like you. Keep up the good work. Dick

RE: Maybe the Tower Hype is True?
Tower has great customer service. I have ordered over $20,000 in products from them over the years. In two slight mistakes they corrected the problem IMMEDIATELY. Without Tower, those in remote areas would not find it practical in RC. There will always be someone wailing about good companies. Ignore them. A half hour drive to a LHS? How about a 2 hour drive.

RE: ESM current retracts
The Sierra retracts I bought for my F7F are strong enough to support a tank. A bit heavy but what am I gonna do? Wish I had the loot to buy Sierra across the board. It take a while to get them so be patient if they are not in stock. Best of luck. Let us know how this works for you. Dick

RE: Are all RC forum's activity in decline?
1. Controversial attitude by some make it difficult to express your opinion without often being attacked. For example, the build vs. ARF dialog is ridiculous and completely irrelevant, but how often have you seen that argument here? Seems like an individual has to rant here for some unexplained mystery. 2. With the growth of the cheap foamies, why would the younger people invest money in clubs and the AMA? Do they? I believe not. The "old guys" are not driving the new people out. OK, sure, someone may have a horror story, but by and large every guy I've spoken with in clubs has been OK. Often many extend themselves to help and are very friendly. These folks are off on their own and have no "need" to post on RCU. 3. Technical issues on RCU make it difficult to post. 4. Moderators are necessary to keep issues civil. It is NOT the moderators, but rather the individuals attacking others, many times simply for their opinion making it necessary for the moderators to intervene. 5. Material cost has to be a factor limiting new members from getting involved in the hobby other than the cheap foamies. As a result fewer people participating here as the older guys drop out. How many of the people new to the hobby that have bought a foamie will participate here? Perhps eventually but by then maybe later he's on to another pursuit. 6. As with some hobbies, r/c is changing. Are some no longer participating here as a result?

RE: RC Plane Guys Are Cheap!
Chistec, have to agree with you about many (not all) plane guys. I've sold a number of planes on RCU over the years. As shipping cost has gone up and up, selling even a NIB is painful. The offers received on very fair prices has stopped from any further sales. If I no longer want it, I burn it.

Every individual, every couple is separate and distinct. There simply is no one-size-fits-all in their relationship. Anyone that thinks they have a corner on some "truth" in this area should write a book.

RE: How to You fly, after fighting with wife
Yeah, my wife, now ex-wife, only knew where the field was because we drove by it on the way to town. Like a fool, I played golf and participated in her art league adventures. Actually the people, for the most part were nice, but man that golf sure was a terror. Then she accused me of not being more involved in her art. This, while she never, ever, went to the field or anything else I did. First thing I did was get rid of the damn golf clubs. Bon Voyage toots. Can't please everybody...ya gotta please yourself, or at least that's how I remember the song goes. What a weight. Much better now. Dick

RE: Why Gassers are more addictive or better than Glows e?
Never used gas, and never will. I like scale, and a strong 2 stroke can generally be tucked very nice into most, especially radial, cowls. The cost of glow fuel; what a laugh. I spend $35 just getting to the field and back, not to mention the thouands of dollars in equipment. I prefer the sound of glow to the tinny weedwhacker sound of the gassers I have witnessed. While there are many shortcomings for glow, I will accomodate them for the benefit I perceive. Now before you start your response, you will note this is my opinion for ME, not you or anyone else. I do prefer not to get into a debate over my opinion alone, but there seems to be a natural need in this forum to argue. Well OK bring it on. Frankly, I hope in the near term the anonymity of forums like this will end, if ya know what I mean...

Oh woe is me, sniffle, whine, bitch, complain. How about going to another forum like those opposed to tennis shoe reform? Hate the weather, or is it whether you are going to remain in the sport? Do us all a favor and take up basket knitting. ARF is alive and well. It is as much part of r/c as is building. If you cannot differentiate the two, then see a shrink. Dick

RE: Are Printed Magazines worth Buying
I go through the AMA magazine in 10 minutes, if that. No offense to the AMA intended. Insofar as my subscriptions, the predominant theme has moved to electric. With magazines devoted to electric flight I guess I don't understand why so much time is devoted to happy electrons. Again, no offense to those flying on batteries. I believe I will be canceling subscriptions this month. Admit to being an old fossil whose only interest is nitro. But that is my choice, is it not?

RE: Do ARF's Belong in Warbirds?
Absolutely, arf models are just as much a representation of military aircraft, and often moreso than that which many of us are capable of building. I laugh at many of the homebilt jobs that are so-called models of a military aircraft. I would be embarrassed to fly them. Use 'em for target practice. Now, the boys that can really build them are in a small community and who is going to question their legitimacy? For that matter, just who are these jokers that seem to think their negative opinion of arf models mean something? Grossly inflated egos? Just small minded with not enough to do? Hmmm. Really hope this did not inflame your little mind.

RE: Why did you join the AMA?
I joined primarily because I wanted to. It is an excellent organization supporting us all, provides me with insurance that would cost me a good deal of out-of-pocket expense, and is supportive of my club. If I could find an organization such as this in other facets of my life I would be happy indeed. BTW, I really don't give a st what others think of my reasons, however.

RE: Why has buying a jet in the classified become so much of a PITA??
POLICE? Yeah, I am deadly serious. This situation notwithstanding, if, after a reasonable time someone does not uphold his end of a contract, that is called FRAUD. There are laws against fraud and the courts are there to uphold the law. I AM NOT proposing going to the law after the money is refunded. PERIOD. There are not many out there that would intentionally cheat us, but damnit, other than giving him a bad review I, for one intend to do quite a little bit more. Now, if you have trouble with this, tough.

Help me with this. In view of the amount, with the receipt in hand, why not tell this guy you are going to the police and then civil action will result? Then do it. Having done PayPal was a good move. People that intentionally pull things on honest buyers should be held accountable by the law in my opinion. Am I missing something here?

RE: Tapered-Bore Engine Break-in - Upgraded
DarZeelon, I thank you for your knowledge and willingness to endure the sarcasm and slander offered by those "experts" that oppose your view, for no good deed goes undpunished. There is nothing difficult or magical about the technique you have collated and presented here. I, for one choose to follow your advise. Others, of course, are free to choose their own path. This forum seems to be diseased. Many, many, threads evolve into animosity. I have not seen this level of behavior on most of the forums in which I have participated. You must have been aware of the liklihood you would have to defend your original post. Thank you for continuing to support your position while at the same time not lowering your behavior to that of others. Whenever I see a post from you I eagerly read it and know that I wll not be fuming with rage when finished. Dick

RE: GAS VS GLOW
For ME, it is 2 stroke glow or nothing...period. Of course what other's do is completely up to them. My observations: Cost: Since I have 10's of thousands invested in this sport and it costs me $50 just to drive to the field and back, the difference in fuel costs doesn't amount to s__t. Size: Since my interest is primarily warbirds, having a cowl cut to shreds with parts of motor and exhaust hanging out leaves the visual appeal of the plane that of a toilet. Smell: I keep mine in the basement and cannot/will not have gasoline permeating the home. Sound: 4 stroke is best. Safety: Not much of an issue either way, since there are potential problems with all, including electric. Cleanup: Electric is best followed by gas, with a far distant 3rd, glow. Guess a few minutes of cleanup after flying is no big thing. Gives me time to unwind, talk with the guys. My planes don't last long enough to get soaked. Overall: Beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder. This is my vote. It is not subject to someone else's opinion. I'm not trying to swing ANYONE to my way of thinking.
