RE: 2.4 GHz reciever placement
As BB said, no need to have the receiver antennae outside the fuselage. If you fly with your transmitter antenna oriented vertically, then one antenna in the plane should also be vertical[;)] With 2.4Ghz, the only thing you should not do, is fly with the transmitter antenna pointing at the plane, it does reduce range, you can prove it when doing a range test on the ground[;)] Do you have the new SD-10G? One of my flying buddies has one, awesome radio. the RDS8000's have also been very solid performers at our field. Good luck, Pete

RE: servo compatibility with DX 7
Hi Coach, Yes, you can use all of those servos. The only modification you'll need to make is on the Futaba "J" connectors, the tab, or fin on the J connector will need to be shaved off to make it identical to the JR, or universal style connector. The Airtronics "Z" connector is a standard universal connector, so is plug and play with any modern receiver[8D], the Z designation for Airtronics is to to distinguish them from the "old" Airtronics plugs with negative in the center position, lucky you don't have them[;)] Good luck, Pete

RE: Which type of battery can stay charged the longest
The Eneloops are a very good choice for transmitter use and also for sport model receiver packs where ability to hold voltage under load is not critical. For situations where momentary high current demands are likely, such as in a large scale model with digital servos they suffer from the same inability to deliver high instantaneous current that all high capacity AA Nimh cells suffer from. I'm with Geezer here, the 5 cell 1100mAh Nicds in my 60-90 glow powered models are at the end of the road. Next season they will have 1100mAh A123's from Radical RC[8D] I have them make up the packs with a standard servo lead, using the signal wire for the node connection. I use MPI heavy duty 3 wire switch harnesses on all my wet powered models. I can balance charge from my Cellpro 4S chargers directly through the charge jack on the switch, you just have remember to cut the signal wire in the lead to the receiver[;)] Pete

RE: Futaba R6014FS Reciever Channel Assignments
The 12FG has the ability to assign functions such as dual aileron and elevator servos to sequential channels, so studying the manual is essential[;)]. OK, as to the lower servo signal voltage of the original R6014FS receiver, you will have no problem with those servos, there was one servo in particular that had issues, the Hitec HS5955 if I remember correctly, that was due to a design issue in the servo, which Hitec changed in later production models, they will update older servos for free if you send them in. OK, now is the crystal that you have in the Hitec receiver a Hitec dual conversion crystal for the channel the 7C is on?? If it's from another receiver it may not work at all, or if it does, give you very limited range. Pete

You would only set the transmitter to PCM when using a Futaba PCM receiver, other than that scenario, it should be set to PPM. What make/model receiver are you trying to use with your 7C? Pete

In addition to the R617FS, you can also use the 3 models of 6 channel FASST receivers and the little 4 channel micro receiver, which has way more range than advertised[8D] You can use any modern servo with Futaba FASST receivers, only restriction would be the old style Airtronics servo plugs that were reverse polarity, but they stopped making that style plug in about 1997. RE: Range of Spektrum's AR6100 Receiver (don't make the mistake I made)
That's the popular wisdom, but no sure thing. We've had a number of crashes at our field with AR500 receivers, I've been lucky so far with my one AR500. In one case the brand new Pulse 60 had a new 1650mAh 5 cell pack from a highly regarded source, after the crash the pack was holding over 6V with a 2A load, so not a factor. lockout was less than 300' . The only goof on the pilots part was that it was determined after the crash the throttle F/S was set to WOT, so no surprise it augured in at WOT[8|] The coaxial antenna was well separated from the whisker and at 90dg. Now back to the AR6100, I've been burned[:@], messed up a nice Spad XIII at less than 200' range almost directly in front of me (no, I don't point the TX antenna at the plane[:D] ). No brownout, the LED was on solid after the crash (V 1.6) and all controls were functioning after retrieving the plane. The plane was cruising in levels flight at around 3/4 throttle and just nosed down, at that point I had no response from the elevator and the plane continued into the ground at between a 45 to 60dg. angle. As far as the other control surfaces, I don't know, since the plane was tracking straight there was no need to input any other controls, except the throttle just before impact. I also suspect that the motor was at idle on the way down, as the plane did not seem to accelerate in the dive. Who knows[&o] Pete

If you have any idea that you might still want to use 72Mhz, get the FASST module[;)]. I only wish my Futaba TM-8 module had the antenna arrangement that this one does. The Spektrum DM9, has the worst arrangement, I use a screw on 2.4Ghz antenna on my DM-8, rather than the kludge job that momes with the module[:'(]. I use both FASST and Spektrum modules in a Futaba 9C, now that Futaba has parkflier receivers, I'm getting rid of the Spektrum receiver and keeping the DM-8 module for my Vapor and any other BNF stuff I might get.
