RE: Prop powered iceboat
cool little idea from what I understand you are having a single ruder up front... I would make this the back and steer form the back as well just keep same as you have just other end is front you could also use puller props this why and the craft would be much more stable there would also be les force on the steering skate the brake idea is good but only use one at the back 2 will make the craft lost control when braking. one side will not catch the same as the other making the craft spinout

RE: Gearvbox/Prop Size help
Any size working on design I build around power plant / prop so 105600 per min so 4900rpm kv motor 11v = 53900rpm 6.6:1 gear box = 8166 rpm so 105600/8166=13 so I need a 13 pitch prop with that set-up but what diameter if it would even be doable If I could afford it I would get this Motor: Mega 16/35/1 Gearbox: KPG27 5.2 Prop: 16x17 RFM ESC: ICE100 Battery: 5S or something similar

RE: Making airboat from car
I don't see why not but the added weight and extra gearing will rob some power, however with gearing it down so much you can put a massive prop on it. I remembered seeing a conversion so I went looking see links below on how he did it. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5036552/mpage_2/key_car%2Cmotor/tm.htm http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5104022/anchors_5104022/mpage_1/key_car%252Cmotor/anchor/tm.htm#5104022

RE: Making airboat from car
get a aluminum block cut some baring brackets in it and fasten that to the bottom of the motor, add a gear that will fit and mount the prop as needed. the motor was built for a hire rpm so this application will prob work well. also look on the web for a longer crank shaft, should be some sort of parts list for other applications using that motor.

RE: FLORIDA RC AIRBOATERS
Lester is wanting to set this up so how about when we get that done we bring it to the water propped organizations and see if we can join as a division and set up our own events / help them set up and have some races at there's. Being that IMPBA & NAMBA are " RC Boating Associations" has anyone contacted the board and found out what they can do for us. We all know we are not allowed to join in on their events because they do not have classes set up for airboats and would be unfair as well there are no regulations in place in their organization. but if there was someone willing to set this all up why would they refuse. We would need to set up everything for this and bring it to them as a proposed division of their organization. we would also need our own board and not interfere with their side of things. combining the interest would allow for lower costs for everyone all round. wet and dry props conquering the forces of water together [8D][8D]

I would set it up like a plain without the wings on and try to keep the CG in line with the prop thrust. note the tails would be upside down [:D] i would also keep the rudder out farther then the back of the floats to help steer

hi Colindevos1 believe it or not I can read/understand that [:D] k so you get spray in the prop when turning left..... we will need a bit more information or a video showing the problem dimensions of boat, prop diameter and motor size will help to you could try bringing the rudders down or cutting them off level with the center of prop or just above. this may help the boat lean into a tern

RE: EDF Airboat
they work but differently from a air propped boat I'm working on one but taking forever. for their size they put out a lot more thrust then people think making most of the edf boats I have seen dive making them un able to plain off. if you plan to build one go with foam and keep it vary light, as well a hydro stile would work best or something without much drag. an edf don't have the low end thrust or acceleration compared to a prop they are geared more for top end speed so if you can get it going without much resistant's it will be faster than a propped boat of the same power plant. if this is your first boat I would not recommend it but if you have the equipment already why not =)

Well being that he is using air thrust not water prop I think it’s just fine here [:D] I have been wandering how long it would take someone to do this, the biggest thing you will have to deal with is that the forces are in reveres with an airboat. Instead of lifting the front of the boat out... to the water as you can. build it like a jet fighter without wings [:D] you may even want to duct

RE: WOW this is what im talking bout , twin drag pipe 5B
Why don’t you just get two aluminum 15cc tuned pipes with side outlets and then tune them up to work for a larger motor with a split header like the one shown. You could even set them up to get a larger power band by shortening or lengthening one header pipe. I would try to get a ram horn shaped header so I could get the pipe under the back wing. This is just an idea but I don’t see how it would be any different than the one above, would be much lighter I think. Tuning info http://www.prestwich.ndirect.co.uk/tunedpipetheory2.htm

RE: Canard style Airboat
Move the sponsons out farther this will lessen the force from the boat wanting to roll over on a tern by giving the hull more leverage to act against it, like getting a longer wrench

RE: Ducted fan build
I think your fan is too high and is too far forward. The rake of your boat is almost under your fan meaning there is nothing to resist the down force on the bow. Lower and move back is my recommendation a prop is going to have a hire thrust line meaning more done force on the bow. You want to get your thrust line as close to the water as you can and as far back as you can.

RE: Ducted fan build
looking back at your build the fan looks like it’s in a good spot try Velcroing your battery to the underside of your hatch at the back if you don’t have too much of a down force problem this may fix it right up. You could also try some ..... the lines on the bottom of a mono hull that help you plain off.... may help you as well [image]http://image2-2.rcuniverse.com/e1/forum/upfiles/331865/Id96382.jpg[/image]

RE: Ducted fan build
Thrust angle has a bit to do with it but not much a conventional propped airboat will not react much different with an angle adjustment. One of the miss understood things about an airboat is that all the thrust is from the top of the boat forcing the bow down, meaning it is the reveres of a conventional propped boat. with this in mind if your CG is low and your thrust is high then you will have more down force on the bow from the thrust being farther away from the center of the CG. if you want to check the angel on the thrust get a light ribbon and connect it to the center at the back, fire the boat up and see where your thrust is going, the best is if it is going straight back. If it is your best bet would be somehow move your fan unit back or rays the CG. Try putting your battery on the top deck in a sealed bag or something to see what will happen. Chances are the battery is the heaviest component and is sitting on the bottom of the hull moving it up will move the CG more in line with your thrust reducing the down force on the bow. This will hinder your turning a bit but if you make your rudders only on the bottom half of the prop under the CG is best it will help lean your boat into a corner to compensate for the hire CG. Anyway this is just my 2c don’t give up boat looks great [8D]

RE: Project - hovercraft?
Do you have any antenna tube or pushrod tubing? Works grate for making your own hinges with a bit of push rod or stiff wire - Just cut to length then cut each end off - fasten the ends to craft and attach the middle to rudder - put wire or push rod down the tubes - bend or secure the end so it won’t slide out If you are worried about weight you could use foam rudders taped to the tube, it’s not vary durable but vary simple to fix and vary light.

Forget the wheels and make this thing a real RC put a strait axel up front and mount tracks on it instead of wheels like the old Tyco Fast Traxx or something similar.
