RE: Unseizing nitro engine
ORIGINAL: Rodney Most probably an engine that used a castor oil based fuel. Just heat the engine up and it will most probably free right up. You can use a heat gun or better to just put it in an oven and heat it to about 250 degrees. Use some gloves and it will free right up if it was because of castor oil. Once free, it will be wise to check it out more closely by either partial or complete disassembly to check bearings etc. Once free, a liberal application of ATF (automatic transmission fluid) or other good oil will lubricate it and keep it free.
I use the method you describe to loosen the engine. While it's hot I use alcohol (rubbing, denatured, etc) to remove the gummed up castor. I pour the alcohol in the carb and exhaust ports, turn the engine a bit by hand and then pour it out. While I am doing this I can get a good feel for whether the bearings are smooth or gritty. When the alcohol starts coming out clear I am done. I then put the engine back in the oven to evaporate the alcohol. Then I take it out of the oven and lube it up.
ORIGINAL: andernamen I fly only when my wife approves, which is never! If I go to the airfield without permission she is likely to break my planes. She has already destroyed several including a partly built TF P-40. Pathetic, I know, but we have kids together and a divorce would be ugly. For you guys that have an understanding wife, you better kiss the ground she walks on and compliment her every chance you get. You just don't know how it could be if she didn't approve.
There are limits to what is acceptable in a marriage. IMO, ntentional destruction of a spouse's personal property crosses the line. This type of abusive behaviour is likely to spill over to other things. It's likely she thinks you'll stick around for the kids. Divorce might not seem like a good option, but at some point living under her rules only and her take it or leave it attitude might become too much to bear. Another question is whether her attitude results in a negative family environment that sets a bad example for the kids. Personally, I would carefully document each instance of abuse in case legal action becomes necessary.

RE: Interesting aircraft non-flight items you have.....
I have an SR-71 poster signed by 20+ pilots. We got it one time while visiting Pima. My wife and I were sitting at the counter at the snack bar having hot chocolate. A guy sat down next to us and started chatting. At one point he asked my wife what was her favorite plane. She was pretty clueless about what was what, but remembered that I made a big deal of the SR-71, so that's what she told him. He told us to wait a few minutes and disappeared into the museum. A few minutes he came back and gave her the poster. Turns out he was in charge of the place. He explained that they host a reunion for SR-71 pilots every year and when they're there the have them sign some posters.

RE: What is with Marketplace engine prices?
ORIGINAL: grimbeaver Though I have never bought or sold anything on RCU I imagine it's the same logic one uses with Craigslist. Always ask a few dollars higher then what you want because hardly anyone will offer you your asking price. If you give a low ball offer and they actually politely decline why not offer a little higher if you want it. The fact that they replied says your offer was possibly not too far off and if you go just a little higher you might get it. If you are not willing to go higher then take your money elsewhere.
Not always. I sold a several things over the last 6 months or so. While I was doing so I regularly got low ball offers via email or formal offers when I forgot to turn on the low ball shield. I replied to all offers. On the low balls, I curtely explained that I was not willing to give the items away and suggesting that if they came back with a real offer I'd listen. When I got reasonable offers that were below what I wanted, I would usually counter offer. Craigslist was worthless, I listed multiple identical items in an ad and clearly said the price was for each and one joker asked if the price was for all of them. I didn't waste my time there again.

RE: Those pesky paypal fees
ORIGINAL: RCNCMAN I have pretty much given up on FeeBay as far as selling. They only protect the buyers and buyers can say anything and don't have to have ratings. I sold a kit on FeeBay and they froze my money until the buyer gave me positive feedback which could have been weeks. It made me so mad that I refunded the guy's money, shipped the kit and told him to send me a check or money order. I would have given him the kit before putting up with the aggravitation.
Yes, they protect the buyer and themselves. They also protect sellers, but sometimes it seems like buyers get better protection than sellers. From a business perspective, it's natural for them to skew support in favor of buyers. After all if there were none, the site wouldn't last long. There have been many unreputable sellers and keeping things safe for buyers is an important part of maintaining the credibility of the site. I've experienced the hold you describe. The thing that bugs me most about it is it doesn't matter what my overall feedback is or how long I've been active on eBay, if I haven't sold recently, there's a possibility they're going to hit me with this. The hold will be lifted by positive feedback from the buyer, but it's also released within a few days of being received by the buyer. It seems to only happen to low volume sellers and items in certain categories or over some unknown amount of money. Note that using Paypal to generate the shipping label helps get the money released earlier because they have the tracking number so the delievery can be automatically recorded in their database. I've never had it go the full 21 days they quote.
ORIGINAL: Warbirdguy
ORIGINAL: PilotFighter Have you seen the commercial where they are all sitting around the table. They have just eaten at a restaurant and one lady says, ''that will be $37 per person''. Then everyone pulls out their smart phone and starts tranferring $37 dollars from thier account to hers and then she pays the entire bill. I'm not very ''savvy'' with the latest technology. But I believe it is possible to transfer monies from person to person now without Paypal. I think you need a smart phone or a computor and you need each other's email address, (which apparently is linked to the bank account some how). Not all banks offer this service yet. And I'm not certain if you can transfer from one brand name bank to another, (yet). But I suspect this will catch on big for the very reasons that many of you have mentioned above. This could be the banks' answer to Paypal.
LOL you think the "Banks" are going to offer it for free? Its all the same, you pay fees to transfer any money anymore.
I transfer money to my wife's account every month, no fee. It probably comes as no surprise to anyone here that it's a one way transfer, money never flows the other way.
The few times I've had discussions with merchants about credit transactions, I was led to beleive the fee was way less than the range you listed. One time I offered to pay cash instead of credit at a local business for a couple thousand $ worth of stuff if he'd give me a discount. The owner said his credit card transaction rate was so low he wouldn't offer me anything off.

RE: Those pesky paypal fees
ORIGINAL: big max 1935 Pretty hard to add it on with a auction item . What gets my goat is ebays over 9% they now add on the shipping charges . A lot of buyers don't have a clue what it costs to sell on ebay . Listing fee, picture fee, final value fee, pay pal fee & now the shipping fee %.Next they will probably put a buyers fee on the item like the big car & auction houses do. All it takes is a couple of feedbacks that are not 5 star & they pull your top rated statis & you lose the discount you used to get. I lost mine because I added the % on shipping in the shipping charge & some one didn't like it . The buyer only pays it once, if I didn't it would be on me for every sale & that adds up.Ebay is NOT for the seller & with out them they don't seem to realize that there would be NO buyers . Thanks I needed to get this off my chest. Big Max 1935 [:(]
I'm not crazy about many of the eBay changes over the last few years. I suspect eBay started charging the final value fee on shipping because far too many sellers were avoiding the fee by charging overinflated shipping rates on cheaper items. It used to be common to see $0.99 items with $20 shipping fees. Meanwhile, I like that they've removed the listing fee for low volume sellers. I realize they raised the final value fee to cover it, but it's nice to be able to list something and only pay if it sells. The change I dislike the most is that anything but 5 stars in the detailed ratings is viewed as negative. The bar for this should be set to 4 to allow some differentiation between sellers.

Tower's scratch and dent sometimes has good deals. eBay also occasionally has bargains, but it requires frequent monitoring, knowing what's a good price, and being able to put in your bid within seconds of the auction end.

Here's a link to the AMA club locator without the shameless commercialization: http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx As PilotFighter said, you should be able to find an instructor via one of the nearby clubs. Whatever plane you choose, you should experience less crashes by going with an instructor. As a bonus, it's a chance to make some new friends.

All of this was on channel 48. We removed the 48 crystal and installed our number 50 crystal. The plane was a nightmare to fly, it received hit after hit flying. We installed a 168 receiver and changed back to PPM, still got hits. We them changed out the switch, battery, another receiver and moved the receiver to a different location in the plane and rerouted the ant wire. Still can't fly plane for hits. With this plane sitting on the stand, switch and transmitter on. You pass the transmitter close to plane and controls go crazy.
Futaba makes several different type of crystals. When you swapped the receiver crystal did you use the correct model for the receiver? Remove the receiver from the plane, plug in one known good servo and a battery. See if it still glitches. If it does, consider sending the transmitter and receiver somewhere for service. If it doesn't glitch, put it back in the plane and plug in the battery and one servo. If you don't get glitching, plug in one more servo at a time. Also note that it is against FCC regulations to change the transmitter crystal if you don't have the training and tools needed to confirm the transmitter signal is still within specs.

When I'm actively using an engine I run the fuel out at the end of the day and don't bother with afterrun, but when I put an engine in storage, or I'm done flying the plane for a while, I now always oil it up and put it in plastic. It's cheap insurance against rust.
