RE: Looking for Information
It is presently an M-5 mod. I am not touching the existing cyl and piston. The parts I am working on are new parts. I think the biggest problem with being able to turn RPM's is the fact I am running the Wet Tuned Exhaust rather than a hot pipe. I like the convenience of the water pump and the ability to be able to idle the boat; since I am usually by myself and it makes it a lot easier to launch and retrieve from my full size boat. I was just trying to get more torque from the engine. I realize the hull is not going to be a speed demon but I was hoping to get it to run in the low 40's consistently and besides I like to Tinker. I have the equipment to check the squish and the degree wheel; I am waiting on a compression guage I recently ordered; I want to get an actual compression reading on the engine as it is now for benchmark purposes. Thanks for responding.

Looking for Information
I am trying to get my Magnum 57 to run a little better. Presently running a Zen260-M5, best performance to date has been with an X572 and X472 Prop. The X572 is better efficiency wise. Thought I would play around with some engine mods. I have enlarged the Transfer Ports on a New Cylinder as per the article by Scott S. on MGB. (Guess I can mention it here; not sure). I did not change the timing on the ports yet. I have also modified the skirt of the piston as per the aforementioned article; but I did not turn down the top of the piston; don't have a lathe. I also matched the intake port to the Iso Block; geez what a mismatch; looks like they could make an injection molded part that would match the cylinder port. What I am looking for is more torque to turn the X572 faster. Based on you guys experience; certainly more than mine; do you think these mods; without the timing change; and a with a 257 stock carb. give me any increase in torque. I am basing this on the way I propped my Bass Boat; maximum pitch that I can turn at the Maximum Horse Power point on the Power curve. If I recall correctly the Zen 260 peak power is in the 12.5 to 13.5KRev range; I am able to spin the 472 and 572 13.5 to 14.0 depending on the wind and water conditions. Any suggestions appreciated.

RE: Easy Vee Trials
You might want to correct your E-Bay Ad to reflect the problems that are outlined in your post here. It appears yours is not RTR; Be careful; what goes around comes around. Even if you get a RTR Gas Boat; you are going to find out that everytime you take it out; there is going to be something that has to be corrected, adjusted, lubricated, etc. Might want to try Electric (SV27) to get your feet wet; so to speak. Just my .02.

Try this EZ Start. You will have a hard time breaking the rope with this device. Makes starting a snap. Eliminates Blisters. Of course you have to have your carb set correctly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cfhjal5C3eE

RE: WHH TEAMPRO RUDDER issue
I had the bracket bend on my Magnum; but it was because I was at WOT and hit a large Gar Fish or Carp and the boat went airborne; vertical; when it came down it hit on the stern at an angle and bent the bracket. Didn't surprise me it was a heck of a lick; and I had rather have the bracket bend than to rip the transom out. It has never bent in the normal course of running and maneuvering at speed. I really dont think the boat is designed to become ariborne and hit on the stern; awful lot of rudder surface area back there to be supported by this bracket at the length of the bracket.

RE: Easy Vee Question
Buy the WHH Super Gator; get on the water; decide what kind of boating you want to do; Sport or Race; learn a little about the hobby; You will have a nice boat; if you dont like the hobby you can sell it; if you build a wood kit; and have no previous modeling experience or the necessary tools and equipment you can end up with a boat that no one will have but you. The Kit, Motor, Hardware, Radio, is a large part but only part of the expense of building a boat; Tool, block planes, xacto knives, Dremel Tool, Bits, Drill Motors, Sander, Sandpaper, Epoxy, CA Glue, Chemicals, alcohol, Paint, and on and on. Control Rods, Control Horns, Battery Charger, Batteries, Fuel Pump, Filters, Hardware; I spent 18.00 yesterday on just screws and washers.

RE: whats a gas boat kit for no mre than 300 $
Toofat; gave you some good advice; You wont get out cheaper than the SuperGator; plus you can assemble it in less than 8 hours; and take it to the lake and run it. You probably havent even thought about how much shipping cost you are going to pay if you start ordering parts from several different vendors and then discovering you probably bought the wrong thing anyway. WHH will send you a box; get Tony to Drill the Transom and Rails for you and then you can put it together with simple hand tools and you will have a nice boat. There is a used one on RCU that is a 2004 Model and it has the Homelite Engine and the guy is wanting 750.00 for it; not saying he wont get it; buy you can get a New unused one for less from WHH;; and if anything should go wrong with it; which I doubt; you can call Tony and he will get you up and running.

RE: whats a gas boat kit for no mre than 300 $
Just get it over with and go find a RIO 51, There is one on E-Bay for around 350.00. The engine for 90.00 would probably make a good boat anchor; on second thought it wouldn't; it is not heavy enough; you would be better off buying a 25.00 Weedeater motor.

RE: First time running Rio51+Zenoah,not a good day
When I flip mine in "Fresh Water"; I pull the plug, turn upside down, pull starter thru several times; inject Marvel Mystery Oil into engine, pull thru, check electronics and fire it up and let it run and dry it out. When I get home I spray down t he electronics and electrical connections with Contact Cleaner/ Freon. Let it dry overnight and then check again the next day and before each outing thereafter. Saltwater and Electronics; especially electronics which is not conformal coated is sure death to the electronics. To really dry the engine; I pull the plug and place a vacuum cleaner hose over the spark plug hole and pull it thru numerous times; put in a new plug fresh fuel and she will fire right up then let it run at idle for a good while until it is nice and warm/hot.

RE: whats a gas boat kit for no mre than 300 $
Find a complete used boat w/ radio, engine, hull, hardware that someone has to sell. Remember tho; shipping can cost almost $100.00. There is an Easy Vee Hull on RCU for 110.00 including shipping; New, Unused, you will not find one cheaper than this. This man builds them for fun not profit. You can get a "Boat Builders Kit" from Warehouse Hobbies for 299.00; engine, hardware, exhaust, fuel tank, radio box. Go to Tower Hobbies Scratch & Dent Section and watch for a 2 Channel FM Surface Radio; I have purchase three from there for around 50.00 each which were like new, never used. You will not get out any cheaper than this. You will spend over 100.00 for just build supplies; not counting the tools you will need for the EASY VEE; unless you already have them; and from what I am reading you probably dont. No disrespect intended. Just the paint on my Easy Vee; Dupont Nason was 142.00 for material, plus spraying equipment, plus 100.00 for Vinyl Graphics. If you are going to lock yourself into a Maximum Budget; you need to just start shopping for something in that price range that will get you on the water; and remember the expense is just starting; To get out for less in this hobby; you have to make a lot of your own parts or tools and improvise and do a lot of shopping and bargaining/bartering.

RE: WHH Magnum 57 or Aeromarine Apache 56
I would recommend the Magnum w/ RCMK or Zen 260-Mod 5; Just make sure you get the EZ-Start; greatest thing since sliced bread. Apache; Don't know never owned one; Twin engines; Duh- Two spark plugs, two gas tanks, twice the fuel, two props; nice and impressive but double everything except speed. One is enough to keep going. Unless money is no object then it is whatever floats your boat. Used boat- No custome service if problems or issues arise, warranty as is. WHH- Call Tony he will make it right or help you out. Great person to do business with. Just my .02.

RE: WHAT TO GET ? RTR , KIT ?
If you are going to run in big water; the Easy Vee is not what you are looking for unless you put a cowling on it; I am putting spray rails on mine now to try and keep the water out of it; I normally run in 4 to 6" chop or greater. This is the boat for the big water; not the fastest but you will have a hard time flipping it or getting it wet inside. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfMUdCGHMus

RE: sikk engines
If you get the Sikk engine a couple of things you might want to check before you run it; Has the Jug Gasket been changed from the Factory Version; i.e., looking at it is it blue or is it copper? What is the squish clearance set at; when I changed the gasket on my Sikk from the factory provided tissue paper and jam version to the copper version; .020; it did not seem to have the same compression or pep that it had with the factory version; I checked it with the .030 soft solder method; and the piston would just kiss the solder, not enough to make an impression; I removed the .020 copper gasket and installed a .015 copper gasket and measured the squish clearance again; this time it was .018; which is where I left it and it seems to be back to its original compression and pep. During all of this I also installed flat washers under the two bolts securing the cylinder and applied Blue Loctite to the bolts. The engine runs and idles great; not as powerful as my two Zen 260's with the Mod 5; it may blow tomorrow; but I dont mistreat it; I just run it WOT. Have no experience with the RCMK; but it seems that is the way everyone is going these days and it is a nice looking engine and seems to have all the factory support you could ask for; if I were to buy another new engine I am sure I would invest in the RCMK. One other thing I have noticed about the Sikk; if you are running a water pump for cooling purposes; the Sikk and its stuffed Crank will pump twice as much or more water at idle than the Zenoah 260.

RE: RIO 51 TIPS-N-IDEAS....
From what I have read; If I really liked and wanted the RIO; I would just buy the Hull from AQ; and the other components from some decent sources and build a decent boat. Geez; you spend the money for the Rio and then have to replace everything; you could buy a top of the line RTR for less; Unless, you just like to tinker and the aggravation. I dont think I have read one review where someone bought one; prepared it and ran it without a major problem.

RE: HELP, FAST...Which prop to run on stock zen 260?
I have one of each of the WHH Al props; they are balanced; but dull; they perform much better after you sharpen them. The 280 and the 70mm-3 are quite a load on the 260; the 275 runs better for me after detonguing a little and sharpening; I have gotten the best performance and speed with the Octura X472; an avg of 4 mph better; just sharpening and balancing; no tweaking of the blades. The best improvement so far in the performance of the engine has been the change to a 275 carb; The Magnum did a wheelie today; came out of the water landed on the stern and bent the rudder mount sideways. It really woke the Zen up. Cheap mod too; $27.00 .

RE: Changing to gas! Need help please
The first thing you need to do is to assemble a good first aid kit. Ever been to the "Cut Finger Institute"??? By the time you buy a decent Nitro Engine and all the necessities it will take to start and run it; you can get a nice Gas Engine. Then all you will need is a gas can and radio; possibly an electric starter. Glow Fuel is approx. $25.00 Per gallon; a .60 size engine will go thru 8 oz. in app. 10 min. Personally I would go with an aircooled 23 cc gas engine with pull start and run a pusher prop. Your major expense there would be either locating or having a prop adapter hub machined. Air Craft Gas Engines do not have pull starters on them; you have to flip the prop. Do not run wooden props on either engine; water and wood props do not mix.

RE: Thinking about a Enforcer 57 Watch Ya Think??
You might go broke, but you won't go wrong. Not the fastest, but a heck of a lot of fun, and you are not always having to retrieve the boat because it flipped on you. I have put some Videos on You Tube; just posted one today that I made this morning testing some Octura Props I just purchased; Props were only balanced and sharpened; not polished or modded; best speed was with the X472 @ 38.7 mph if this link works you can see the boat stuffs when I hit a roller and it keeps on going; not a drop of water in the hull. This was after I had already done a 360 roll over and it kept going. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voju6QSzX2Y

I think Scott is right. I made a trip to Home Depot to pickup an oil filter for my Lawn Tractor and browsed thru the Weedeater section while I was there. A lot of them are now 4 stroke engines, I guess we could convert our Zens to run on Glo Fuel, sure would be expensive tho.
