RE: Cermark Extra 260 1.20
It will build to less than 9# with a glow engine. Add some cross bracing or sheeting to the stringers behind the landing gear. They will snap easily if you pick the plane up from the belly. Watch the covering. The clear top coat will seperate from the color. Be careful with an iron, the covering shrinks at a low temperature.
ORIGINAL: maninblk Well i did the same thing on a budget, choices were OS-160.. found a used one for $200 Seagull models Extra 260, 74''wingspan, 160-210 $249 JR 821 servos all around $30bucks each x6 so for right around $600 this plane was in the air....... It flies really sweet. Now if i was to go gas, just would add $100 for difference in price for DL-30 gas engine....
Yes, but the things like batteries, switches, extensions, kill switches, spinner, prop, servo arms, etc adds up quick.

Try Valleyviewrc.com or Peakmodel.com. They have plane/engine combos at good prices. http://www.valleyviewrc.com/Sukhoi%20Su-26m.htm You'll need metal gear servos. I use the Tower Hobbies TS-160 servos on my 120 sized planes. They are metal gear digital at a good price. Your existing Hitec arms will work with these.

RE: DL-50 engine
I have a problem that assisted me in destroying my last airplane. I am almost all set with the new plane and ready for maiden. Can you guys help me in diagnosing the problem? DL 50 Stock muffler 22x8 prop 4 gallons run through new engine fresh CM-6 plug The engine started normally and then idled higher than normal. Adjusted transmitter trim. Go to full throttle and then back to idle. The idle is high, but slows on its own after a couple seconds. Take off, fly for one minute. Good upline and then engine dies on vertical dive while transmitter throttle stick is pulled all the way back. Was the low end too lean? Or, is this a throttle servo problem? Any ideas in what to check before my next flight? I am stumped because the engine went about 20 flights with no problems before this. I have replaced the throttle servo just to be safe. Thanks.

RE: opinion about extra 260 of peakmodels with engine 26cc
ORIGINAL: matador_24 Hello, thanks.... According to the specs of that plane, I believe it requires only 1 elevator servo..... what did u put on it???? I was thinking, adding another servo (1 elevator per elevator half) could be better, just as all planes of that size, I really found weird, it uses only 1 servo..... could u please give more detail on it??? how is the elevator system installed?? Thanks!
I have one elevator servo installed on mine. The two halves of the elevator are joined together with a wire. It works well. You would have to make some modifications to get two servos to work. Standard servos would hit each other because the fuse is not deep enough. One high torque metal gear servo works fine. The plane flys nice. I have a YS110 on mine. The covering is awfull, so go over all the seams with trim solvent. That is my only complaint, the covering keeps coming off. I have packing tape all over the plane holding down the covering.

RE: From Lipo to A123 power?
The voltage is less, the weight is a lot more. Typical 3s 1800 weighs 5.4oz. A123 2300 battery weighs 8.7oz Buy a couple more Lipo batteries or another charger. A123's are not good replacements for foamies. They work better in 40 sized and larger planes.

RE: weight range
Max weight is hard to say without some details on the plane. Wing design and position can make a lot of difference. You can overpower all day long, but if you get too high a wing loading then you end up with a flying brick. With higher weight comes longer takeoffs, faster landings, and higher stall speeds. You also have to look at the higher stresses on the airframe. I am all about overpowering planes for fun, but sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. Give us some more specifics on the plane and the engine and someone can point you in the right direction.

RE: Not sure if to buy a simulator or a new radio
Get the simulator. You did not say that you already have a computer radio, but since you are mixing a knife edge mix.. FSOne is pretty inexpensive. It works well, just doesn't have all the different plane uploads of some of the others. Recommended for the budget conscience. Simulators really help with the timing maneuvers and to help memory train your brain. For example, slow rolls, rolling circles, and harrier rolls. It is good to practice one or two hours a night. Your fingers will get into the grove without having to say to yourself "right rudder, push, left rudder, push...no wait pull, oh crap". [:D] Your flying will benefit from a good simulator and an electric foamy. Save your money and get a radio better than a 7C. The 7C runs out of mixes pretty quick. 9C and 10C are a giant step up from the 7C. If you are already using a knife edge mix then you may want a beefier radio.

RE: Apprentice 15e Maiden flight, Lipo trouble
If you were able to fly it in under control then the servos were still working. The motor will reduce power at low voltage cut off and allow the servos to continue to work. Running the battery this low is not good, but should not kill it. Check your battery connections and charger. If you killed it, look at some different batteries. You can get some good Loong Max or Zippy batteries for half that price.

RE: .46 evolution trainer trouble
The exhaust gasses passing through the muffler pressurize the fuel tank and push fuel to the carburator. It should not flow back to the tank with the engine running. Check the fuel line on the exhaust for leaks also. When you cover the exhaust exit the pressure goes directly into the tank pushing the fuel up to the carb. I have to do this sometimes on the first run of the day. Having the carburtor a bit lower than the tank is fine.
Does anyone know the needle settings that I should start from? Any help would be appreciated.
Doesn't the evolution have a blue anodized stop on the high speed needle? If your does, turn it as much counter clockwise as possible and then start to turn it clockwise until the engine peaks and then richen a few clicks. If the blue stops are gone then turn in until the needle stops and then back out two turns. The stock setting on the low end is 1 1/2 turns out. You might have better luck with the OS A3 plug.

RE: Tower Hobbies .75 help tunning
I have a few TH 75's and a TH 60. They do not like to be run rich. Tuned correctly, they run like clockwork. I am afraid that you are too far off and it is time to start over. http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/pdf/towg0175mnl.pdf Pull the carburator off and adjust the low end needle per Tower's instruction by looking up through the throat from the engine side. There you will see the mixture needle and spray bar. Adjust these per the instructions. Don't leave a gap though, Tower has posted on their webpage that there is no gap. Another good trick is to pull the carb and hook up a clean fuel line to the fuel inlet. Fully close the idle needle screw by turning it clockwise until it stops. Now slowly open the needle screw while blowing air into the fule line with your mouth. As soon as air starts to pass through, stop. This is a good starting point. Reassemble the carburator onto the engine. Start with the high speed needle at 2 turns out. Fuel up and make sure you are not flooded before starting up. Your needles are set very rich and the engine should start quickly. Set the high end needle first. Turn it a few clicks at a time listening for the engine to gain rpm. When you think you are close, pinch the fuel line. If it dies quickly you are too lean, richen a little and try again. If it picks up rpm you are too rich, lean it a few clicks and try again. When you have this set shut off the engine and let it cool. If you have a tach, use it. They make tuning much easier since you can watch the numbers climb or drop. Start it up again and run it up to warm it up some. Lower the throttle and let it idle for a full minute. If it slows down and dies then lean out the idle screw 1/8 turn. You can also pinch the fuel line at idle. It will take longer for the engine to be affected, but you will tell if you are rich. Keep leaning the low end until it maintains idle for a minute or more. Now run it up and drop it back to idle. Let it idle for a few seconds and then go wide open. The engine will stumble if too lean. Richen it up a little and try again. Now have someone hold your plane pointed up at full throttle. The engine should not slow down or die. It is ok if it speeds up, a little. If it dies or slows down richen the high speed needle three clicks and try again. You should be set to fly. Remember that the low end only needs to be turned in 1/8 turn increments or less. Once the low end is set you should not have to change it again unless you change nitro blends. Even then it will only be a small adjustment. Those are the basics of glow engine tuning.

RE: .46 evolution trainer trouble
check your clunk in the fuel tank. Sounds like it may be stuck or fell off. Has it always done this? If so, then it might be the fuel line relation to the carburator. The two should be close to a straight line. Carburator inlet equal to centerline of tank. I would check the fuel clunk first.
