RE: qq vs sd models
I love QQ planes and SD models planes I have the SD 33% yak and it is oh so nice. 3d's really well like a foamie. knife edge is strtaight with no coupling, harriers are great too. I have had the QQ 73" yak and the 100cc Python in the QQ planes. they are extremely nice also. the python is dreamy , one of my all time favorites. If I had to choose, I'd say the SD models since the schemes are nicer and they are still in production.( under the TT toc name) and quique may no longer be making planes.

RE: Which brand of plane makes the best 3d er's
I have to throw in another vote for extreme flight. I have the 50cc extra 300 and it's the best, most neutral plane I've ever flown. but giant scale do everything better. for 30 to 50 size I would say sebart katana 50 or EF extra 48" for 120 size a surefire bet would be quique 73" yak, pilot rc 73" yak or extra. I am biased towards yaks because of their awesomeness. I've never flown profiles but them and foamies are great for insane 3d craziness.

RE: want to rebuild zdz super 80
thanks guys, you're the best. I will take some pics this weekend and post them. I mainly want to do this for the experience of being able to rebuild engines. even if I mess up I wont be that dissappointed because I have a 75cc 3m mintor as a backup that I could throw on there, but it doesn't have a choke. If I did overheat the engine is it ruined or can I replace the parts that are damaged? If I get through this maybe I can tackle a bent shaft on another old motor I have. [:)]

want to rebuild zdz super 80
Hey I have a zdz 80rvj that is about 3 years old but with a relatively small number of flights on it ( maybe 25) The engine was always a bear to start from day 1, eventually got to running decent but wouldn't start after a flight. I have just had it in my 33% sd yak sitting on a shelf cause it's such a pain in the ass to deal with. My DA 50, Brillelli 60 and 3W 106 have been great with no problems. ( I know a little more about the gassers now than I did then, so maybe I did something to screw it up.) VERY possible. anyway... I finally got a large starter and got it back out again and spun that thing and it started right up. proceeded to fly a few minutes and deadstick. well it started raining and I put it up on the shelf again. Now I tried again and realized the compression seems low and a) you need to richen the needles quite a bit to get it to start and b) you have to lean them back out to get it to run c) when it dies, it's hot to the touch. d) now I think I've really done it you can now hear a slight clicking sound when you turn it by hand diagnosis? Can I, a relatively inexperienced engine tech, rebuild this thing and what parts should I order and can yall assist me in the process? soirry bout the long post but I am not ready to give up on this engine. thanks alot, Phil

thanks guys. I am going to keep this setup the way it is for a while. one of my 5 cells puffed up on me the other day while on the charger. I balance charge them every other time, is that good enough? why would this happen to a relatively new batt? it's a thunderpower 3850 mah 30c 5 cell lipo.

well just an update, the plane is flying great , has tons of power. a little on the heavy side, but not too bad. I got the ampa down to 78 by progrssively propping smaller till I got to an 18-10. Axi is definitely my motor of choice now. What would you guys reccomend for one size down from the 5330 - 18? ( in weight mostly) thanks alot, phil

RE: magic hand 73
hi all I've been really enjoying flying this plane. I got a smaller prop on it (a 19 8) and it really pumps! THE POWER IS JUST INSANE, rocketing uplines @ 1/2 throttle! I wish I would have went with a smaller axi cause it's a little heavy for 3-d. It will do some hovering and harriers. You can just feel the heaviness of it in your manouvers. It's great in pattern manouvers, and I'm working on losing some weight. I would reccommend this plane to anyone. maybe with a little lighter power set up. ( I do have dual 2 cell lipos on the rx ) that is adding some weight. and the plane could fly on a 9 cell if you can make one. Happy flying!

RE: magic hand 73
I ve got the magic hand 73" almost done. I have a couple of questions. With the Yak I had to put the batterries all the way up into the front up against the firewall to get my CG. Would it be sufficcient cooling for the batts to put a couple of scoops on the side of the box? Is there enough air coming into the cowl or should I cut addittional air inlets? I just dont want to cut too many holes in the motor box. The axi 5330 has some monster torque! The first tests of the power set up is: 92.6A 35.4V, 3278 W APC 20-10 the second test is 89.7A 35V , 3154W APC 20-10 I have ordered a 19-10 and a 20-8 prop to try to get the Amps down. Your opinions on this set up would be apprecciated. thanks, Phil

RE: axi5330 jeti 77 batt wiring question pics added!
O.K. I have some test results from the watt meter. this is with an APC 20-10 prop. the first time I ran it with a fresh charge on WOT it was: 35.4 min volt, 92.69 amp 3281 watts ! On the second run it was: 35 volts, 89.76 amps and 3154 watts. This is too much power for the motor ESC right? I should size the prop down a size like 19-10 or 20-8? Man this thing is a powerhouse! I love it[:D] question: as the battery runs down a little will the power back down to a safe 75 amps max or will this combination fry my componenets? I will not run it anymore to test until I get some feedback from youall. thanks, Phil

thanks for your help! I have been doing some more research, and you're right the motor has a max loading of 75A. and one example I found with the axi 5330 and a 10s lipo with a 19-12 prop is 79 A and 1941 watts, with a 20-13 it's 91 Amps and 2088 watts. My next question is Isn't 91 amps too much for a 77 amp speed controller? thanks again, Phil

RE: axi5330 jeti 77 batt wiring question pics added!
well It's true Im still in the learning phase of electric flight. I usually fly giant scale gas. but after assembling and flying several 30 and 50 size electrics I'm sold on the reliability,( no more deadsticks?) and excited about getting into something bigger. I have been researching for several months before this. Ido still have a few BASIC? questions. some data show the max loading of the 5330- 18 to be 75 amps. but other examples show a 20-13 prop on a 10s to be 91 amps. Will this be a problem?

I think I'm about to answer my own question . the motor runs on a 10 cell lipo so obviously I have to have two 5 cells in series to get 10 cells. the output of the battery is 3850 mah @ 30c so the batteryt will safely put out 114 amps which should be plenty without having to hook up 2 in parallel right?

magic hand 73" yak set up questions
Heres what I have so far. AXI 5330- 18 . jeti 77 esc , 2 5 cell lithium 3850 mah 20 - 30 c ( thunderpower) I have a few questions if anybody wants to offer assistance. the motor has 15 - 38 amp max efficiency current, max current 58 amp. does that mean that it wont put out as much power as a scorpion 5535 which has a max of 85 amp? Also what effect does the internal resistance have on my set up ? I want to make sure I will have enough watts for 3-d. the plane will weigh 11 -12 lbs auw. thanks for helping, phil

I got to fly mine yesterday for the first time in over a year. Problems with the zdz super 80 had me grounded, then I got a megatron starter. Man how nice it is to not be flippingflipping flipping all day. Anyway the plane flew as great as I remember it being! I'm tempted to put a DA 85 on it as the zdz is still running rough and won't smooth out. everybody seems to be pleased with the performance of the da 85?

I think you will like this one, although it's not quite as nice as the quique python 100. That one is my all time favorite. If I were gonna do this one again I would get the kevlar wires from dons hobby and get some better turnbuckle type wire rigging. the wires they give you with the kit is barely long enough to double loop the crimps

sd python maiden
I finally got to maiden my TT TOC pitts m12 50cc yesterday. what a beaut! I got it from a fellow here at rcu marketplace. It was quite fun to put together with no manal or anything. I's a really well made plane though. the bottom wing has two wingtubes. it does have a cannister tunnell, cowl ring w/ no visible fasteners, flying wires, and my favorite thing, a big fat round front! ( some pythons have the skinny little nose like AW) I've got hitec 5985's on the ailerons & elevators, and a 5955 on rudder, DA 50 in the nose, and 2 tbm 2200 lipos on mpi miracle switches for power. now to the flight report.... a few flips on the prop and a slight richening of the low speed needle had the DA 50 running smooth I taxied onto the strechy fabric runway at maryville TN made my turnaround and stop, advance the throttle and YES! it climbed out so pretty, three or four cxlicks of right aileron and two or three down elevator and there she was flying so stright and wow this is a slow flyer. lets go around our first turn , wow she drops some elevation in the turn, not too bad though, lets try a slow roll. mm hmm very axial, how bout a 4 point roll, knife edge rolls a little to the opposite, probobly cause its nose heavy. man this thing is a blast to fly!!! few more gentle manouvers and... whew maiden went great! think I'll bring her in and double check everything before I attempt any 3d. landing is so slow and pretty, I'm psyched! Now that I've stopped shaking lets try it again! well how bout a harrier? wow very litle wing rock. not quite enough elevator throw, probobly nose heavy condition. hovering up 1 mistake high, man, solid as a rock. rolling harrier well Its taking all the input I have to keep the nose up. I think I need more throws or a more aft cg. Lets try a blender,,, Up up up, this plane rockets upward. blender looked really good and came out of the inverted flatspin nicely. general concensus... this is one awesome plane! I like it when people come and take pictures of my plane. biplanes are always cool! I hope more people get into these planes cause they really are nice, and after I dial in some mixing and get my cg right it's gonna be this summers plane of choice for me. Happy flying![:D]

RE: New ZDZ-80
hey guys, I wonder if you can help me. Ive had my zdz super 80 for about 2 1/2 years now. It's always been really hard to start, from day 1 I had to flip on it for 2 hours to get it started. Once you got it running it was awesome. thisw was only my second gasser at the time, and I may have screwed something up over the time I have had it, now it wont start at all and the prop turns pretty easily by hand like theres not enough compression. my questions are a) what would cause this lack of compression, and b) can I rebuild this engine myself? how would I find info on how to fix it? or lastly is there anyone out there who would fix it for me ? thanks so much, Phil

i am in the same boat ( or plane) I'm looking at the aeroworks 35 cc and trying to decide between those engines or a large 200 4 stroke. the glow engine would be lighter and sound great although quite expensive... I do have a DA 50 but to me its crazy to put that much engine in a plane this size. I know others are doing it though. I have experience with zdz 80 but not 40. and that thing is a bear, it's got so much compression!!! sometimes a hard one to start but once running a powerhouse. no experience with evolution. talk to me
