RE: 1/3 Scale J3 Cub - Engine Recomendation
Anyone still flying this plane? I am about to start a build and was wondering if there was anything I should watch out for? I'll be running a DLE55, I hope that enough to make her fun. She is actually for my 11 year old daughter!

This plane is just too heavy and most of the extra weight is in her arse! Back to the drawing board AW! Sorry. Oh yeah Freestyle 40 for sale, airframe only...cheap. Sabre 47 on order!

RE: Special oil for gas now?
I'm just mad cause my dang 'ol tacos are gettin' too dang expensive due to all the corn in the gas tanks! Why the hack can't they make that stuff out of acorns or pinecones or something else that is a pain in the butt. It's gettin' so bad that the dang 'ol tortilla soup ain't got no tortillas in it at all hardly! Course, if I had a dollar for every retarded response I've read on these boards I could afford tortillas and hushpuppies! Carry on.

I don't think $30 is very much when you are talking about a plane that costs thousands. My time is worth more than that. But hey, I hear paper dolls are an inexpensive hobby if thats what you're looking for.

RE: Vess Balance Ring, Anygood?
ORIGINAL: pe reivers That post just says ''awesome''!,   ''great'', ''XXXX''  etc ad infinitum; It seems to be the new vocabulary in a nutshell. This thread, which started out as a discussion, however has degraded to namecalling and denial of a person's view of matters that matter. I cannot well define my point of view in such, not being opposed to change, but weary of change because of change. I believe in the well enough to be let alone. Not every change is for the better, and I agree with T.O.M. if he takes the stand in that point of view. If all parts are balanced as they should be, indeed the ring Robert devised is not needed, because the randomized sum of imbalance issues in single parts tends to equalize each other. In those cases that there is still a theoretical amount of unbalance it takes special tools and an amount of skill to get rid of it. I will not go there denying anyone the skill. People have surprised me before! I find the price however quite high, and in my case it would require me to buy the balancer that I do not want to use. Another gadget on my already overloaded shelves. Furthermore, the use of the ring in the other thread has so far not resulted in convincing result reports. To be frank, it cannot be convincing, unless measurements are reported. A simple measurement would be to mount accelerometers to the plane nose, and run up the engine. Publish resulting X-Y axis related tertz band analisys before and after! That is what I meant by required skills. All other methods will be groping in the dark in a haphazard way.
Well, I really don't know how anyone could argue with that. Perhaps Vess should go to the trouble of making the appropriate measurements in order to deter these kinds of debates, and convince potential buyers. Meanwhile we are stuck with anecdotal evidence at best, which is unlikley to convince someone like T.O.M. who has a tremendous amount of real world experience in dealing with these size engines and propellers. I know I'd be trying to win him, and possibly his employers, over if it were my product! Perhaps the tests have been run and the results proved negligible? For my money, it just makes sense, and at the end of the day, it's my money after all.

RE: Vess Balance Ring, Anygood?
Just because I don't choose to scratch build my own planes doesn't not make me incapable, nor does it diminish my admiration for the craftmanship involved. To suggest otherwise is insulting and almost certainly hypocritical. Since hand carving propellers is the way it used to be done, and requires immense skill and experience, then we should never, ever, buy a prop from a manufacturer? Is that the just of the argument? Maybe I should get rid of my ARFs and build myself a nice 25# warbird and power it with an OS .91 and attempt to fly around in circles, that is, if I ever get the time to fly the damn thing with all the building and hand carving props that is!

Sort of like a certain political party. If it's not their way, it's wrong. Vess introduced this thing about 6 months ago and so far the world has not become a better place. Sort of like his props. They work for some, but others find them less than ideal. The difference between advertising and experience perhaps? He definately knows his stuff, but business is business. BTW, I ONLY fly large scale planes and have found no real benefit to the balance ring. However, I know how to balance a prop AND a spinner, and also know how to use an out of balance prop to offset the natural imbalance in a single cylinder engine.
That's it TOM!! It is easy to use with a Dubro prop balancer and a Sharpie. Just another new product that is cost effective, weight negligible, works as advertised and gives FOGs something to complain about. Congratulations on your success. I am having a hard time with my .40, it's really pitchy. The CG is about 4 1/8 as per the manual, maybe 4.25. What are you calling neutral on the ailerons? Is it straight down the bisected wing, looking from the end?

Bill she looks great!! I just got back from practicing with my Club 20 racer. Our season starts Oct. 9th and I want to be ready. I need to prove that my 3rd place finish wasn't a fluke!! RE: Evolutions New Muffler Thanks to Jett Engineering
You guys need to put these engines and pipes on some pylon racers or something. They won't be very good on a Twist at all. They might be really cool on a warbird as long as you had a runway about a mile long to rotate off of. Maximum rpm doesn't mean maximum thrust, or speed, for that matter. Also, I am very familiar with "prop load factors" and don't need your spreadsheet thats been "floating around" to do a simple math computation. The RPM number is not as relevant as you seem to think it is. The airframe design and weight need to be considered. I'm just having a hard time understanding why a speed engine/prop/pipe would be on a 3D airplane. I fly 3D and I race too, I just don't try to mix the two.

RE: Evolutions New Muffler Thanks to Jett Engineering
Where are you getting those thrust numbers? Most of the thrust you will want is at low rpm if you are in high alpha flight. 15k really doesn't do much for 3D. As I've mentioned, a 12 X 7 S2 Scimitar from Master Air Screw is a good all around prop for a .61. You have to keep the rpms up a bit for the low, slow stuff but you will also have decent speed when you want it. The APC 13 X 4W is great for just doing 3D.

RE: Evolutions New Muffler Thanks to Jett Engineering
If you want thrust, try an APC 14 x 4 W or at least a 13 x 4W.

RE: Evolutions New Muffler Thanks to Jett Engineering
But why would you ever want to turn that many rpms on a Twist or a Stick or some of the other planes you guys are talking about? I turn 16800 static on my pylon racer but for the Twist, I want thrust.

RE: Evolutions New Muffler Thanks to Jett Engineering
Forgive me for comming in late. I've only read the last few pages but I am a bit confused. It sounds like some folks were under propping their engine and burning up the glow plugs. Do we want to go fast here? I have a Twist too but don't really try to go too fast with it. A friend has an Evo 52? and that thing is a screamer. I run an OS.61FX with a MAS 12 x 7 S2 Scimitar prop. It's plenty fast and it pulls hard. You guys should try that prop with your engines. Here is how she sounds with a stock muffler and she pulls pretty good too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CXnKqdbHT4

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation
Once upon a time there was a group of Twistaholics who inhabited these very pages, but the mean old moderators chased them away. Dad Roman was (is) one of them. They meet somewhere else now and they play a game among themselves. It's called the Ho-Down and, you can play too. All you have to do is start the camera rolling and then fly in front of it and see how low you can hover a T___T 40, 60 or 150 and then fly out again. It really is that simple. So, how is this crop of new Twisted freaks over here on the dark side? How low can you go? Here, I'll go first.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CXnKqdbHT4
