RE: RC Surfer
YPC That video is FREAKING AMAZING. Oh what a feeling! How much run time are you getting on a battery? Looks like the stress test worked.

RE: RC Surfer
YPC The more I think about the single fin I can see how easy it can be made. I have some brass sheets laying around. Soldering it to a rod looks like it will be easy. My board likes to bounce at 3/4 to full throttle. Hopefully the single fin will help. Maybe adding some skid plates will help too. Boy you guys got me thinking!!!! Also I have been using marine wheel bearing grease. It works very well.

YPC Great video. I have to get a single fin so I have both. I see advantages of both. I have a freshwater creek I call my test track. Its just shallow enought to walk out and get the surfer . Your board looks great , keep the videos comming! Also regreased the drive shaft does really help keep the water out. I do it everytime I take the board out now. Cya

I too use the Fly Sky FS-GT3B radio and receiver. Works great and thought if I drop it in the water its cheep to replace. Its really a great radio and they just came out with the C version. Holds 10 models and the range is good. I have high end futaba's. They are not going near the water. LOL

K-H2o Hey thanks for the brushless info. I have run brushed motors for a long time and know them well. Brushless motor are here to stay and run well. Knowing how they are made and run helps when chosing one. I pickup good info from boards. Someone needs to rate brushess motors and chart them. Price and real Power, amp draw. I just rolled the dice and found a good one. Same thing with the ESC out there . Seems like there are alot of small companys producing ESC;s. We would always buy Novak and Tekin. Oh well so goes the free market.

YPC Good info about the Y and D brushless motor. I will keep that in mine. Is a Y motor more rpm and D more torque? Is the motor mount glued down to the hull? I made mine out the L channel.

YPC Wow thats a great surfer stand for the beach. Look very portable. I heard good things about those Leopard motors. Is 36 mm the replacement for the 540 stock motor. I have the small brushless motor in mine. Its a great motor with a huge power band. Well I stickered out the board today. I found all my racing cars stickers made the board into a race car. LOL Check them out.

RE: RC Surfer
YPC- Hey thanks for the weath of info. I have seen the 69 dollar board. Its now bad for the money. How much do you think a custom board with surfer no electronics or motor would be? I think hobby builders like my self would be interested in that. There are so many motor / esc / radio options out there. And all kind of price ranges. My kyosho board cost me 150 dollars for the motor , esc, radio upgrades.

Hey thanks guys for the hatch ideas. I had a block of wood epoxied , it held for a while. I think the grease will keep the water out.. I was thinking about gluing down a 5 mm threaded tube that I can screw into. I 'll get it. Kyosho did a great job on this board except for the rudder hatch disk. No worries.

RE: RC Surfer
Hey thanks guys! I installed fly sky lipo's in the boat. 40 C 7.4 volts. I tested it in my workshop. Wow the prop pushed so much air if felt like a fan. This board is going to fly. Im simi new to lipo's so I installed the battery in my old xxt losi truck. Wow the power and run time is huge. How many batterys so you guy take per day at the ocean? Or do you recharge at the beach? I was going to use a aluminium servo holder out of my 12 th scale car. I may still do that. :). Thanks.

Hey thanks Saildoggie, I wil take that advise and cut off the outlet pipe. Thanks :) I was going to use packing or hockey tape to seal the hatch. I want to get thumb screws for the hatch. I will be easier to remove less using a screwdriver. It snowed today. Soon it will be spring and than the test trials will begin. This forum is a huge help and loads of fun to read!! I now have 300 dollars into the board. And I think its worth every penny.

RE: RC Surfer
itsfishi Wow thanks very much for the detailed info and video! As soon as I can figure out how to post video and photos I will share my build. Sorry for all the questions. Just like racing touring cars Setup is everything. I can see how having a very strong motor mount helps. The pounding of the ocean waves is stressful and the weakest link may be the motor mount. Im going to use lipo's I use in my xray touring car. I have a few of them. They are 7.2 volt. The 3650 will be one of the motors I will buy. I called hobbypartz and they said its close to the 540 stock motors the kit came with. Hows the cooling working? We have a temp gun and measure the temp when the cars come off the track. Or just feel the motor. Its the motor cool to the touch? Cool motors run faster and run longer. Well thanks again guys!

itsfishi Hey thanks for the info. I like the ESC a lot. 120 amps woo HOOO. Good price. I think I will go with that one. The motors look good to. Do they match up with the mount? Some look longer and shorter. Will they fit in and under the hatch. They look like they are out of stock right now. They will contact me when there in. Or I may just call them. Please keep the info comming. Surfer dude is getting painted and put together. How the heck do you post photos here? I would like to show you guys my build.

RE: RC Surfer
Saildoggie Thanks for the info. I really would like to trick out this RC surfer. I am holding up the build untill I get all the right electronics for it. I wanted to get the hobbywing 60 amp esc. I just needed to comfirm that this esc will be able to handle the right brushless motor. Running touring cars I run tekins and novacs. Hobbywing is new to me. Please send me a list of what brushless water cooled motors you guys are running. No sense reinventing the wheel. Sound like you guys are having a blast! Water cooled Motor? Hobbywing 60 amp esc Motor mount ? stock or modified? Coupler? Stock or Modified? Prop? Can I use the stock drive shaft? Rudder? Stock or Mod? Radio? I have a futaba 10 model but would like to use a decadited radio at the beach. I live on the east coast (usa) and go to the New Jersey shore alot. Thanks guys!

I have been reading this very interesting forum. I have found a unopen Kyosho RC Surfer Dude and bought it right away. I always wanted one. I have been into cars for a very long time. I sure this will rate right up there with on road racing. My question to you guys is, I need a water cooled esc and water cooled motor for this model. I have found hobbypartz.com and they have esc and motors. What would you recomend? I really need to know what are the best upgrades to install. Thanks !
