RE: Saito 1.50 mounted PICS. Thoughts on servo positioning?
No offense taken. I will however not be changin it up too much. I was not clear when I listed the rudder cables. They are steel lines, with a very thin plastic coating, which in fishing use, keeps from digging into pole eyes, and for the plane, it keeps from cutting anything as well. I was skeptical on the it all holding together, but once tied, and CA'ed up, I was unable to pull apart any of the points, and that was with LARGE amounts of force in many different directions. I was planning on doing my elevator much like how you have yours setup, but I thought that an added servo was more than overkill on this plane. Thank you for taking the time to voice your thoughts, and I will take them into account on my next build. After all, isnt that how we get better at this?

RE: Saito 1.50 mounted PICS. Thoughts on servo positioning?
In these pics, ya can see the rest of her. For the record, the red and white wheel pants are going to be stripped, and repainted to match the color scheme... K, the rudder pull/pull is just 90lb test fishing leader, which is extremely thin yet strong, and since it is covered in a this plastic, has very little drag on anything, and should not wear the horns out. Most of the tension is provided by the pink zipties seen in the picture, but let me tell you. That rudder has less slop than any other I have ever built up. The rudder was extended, and covered a matching yellow. You will notice that it has a slight angle going up on the bottom section, this was for clearance on high alpha landing. The elevator push/pull came out better than I expected. Zero slop, very effective. Unfortunately, at this current moment in time, I did not secure the extensions during final assembly, and I hope that it came undone, because I am getting no juice to the servo, so something may have gone wrong, easy fix. All up weight, no fuel in the 250cc tank is 8lbs 6.5 ounces. Give or take maybe an ounce for small things... Balances dead on the wing spar, and is easily adjustable to suit how I want to fly this plane(balls to the wall) I shall inform all of you on how she flies once I get her up, probably will have video as well. Out for now.

RE: Saito 1.50 mounted PICS. Thoughts on servo positioning?
In these pics, you can see the APC 16X8 mounted up front, along with a dubro 2.5incher... Started it up for the first time yesterday, and I am simply amazed. The previous owner of the motor told me that it has had 2 generously rich gallons run through it, a nice long break in. Well, with that in mind, I let her warm up, and my Jaw dropped. This is the largest engine that I have owned before, and also the largest engine that I have personally held onto while running. I never would have imagined the power from this. At full throttle, spinning around 6,700(still on the rich side, and hard to get an accurate tach reading), I could not let one hand off of the plane to touch the transmitter. It took all of my attention, and nearly all of my strength to hold onto this plane. She pulls like a train, and I cant wait for the DA150 powered beast down the road. Anywho, all the business is taken care of up front, including a cut cowling, and aluminum fuel stopper/filler thingermabobber. The other two pics, show the Mounted ultra stick ailerons, which were tapered down after being cut to size, pictured next to the included stock ailerons.

The price made me gasp. Only $650 shipped for a 33% ULTIMATE biplane with a nice covering job. Almost too much to ask for, almost :) I will be ordering one as soon as I receive my first few paychecks.

I can only imagine the power that engine will be putting out, but I can also see the fuel that it will consume. Win/lose situation, but for those 5 minute flights, it would be awesome.

Is that the same as theworldsmodels model? That is a beautiful looking plane, and seeing that only sets in deeper my want to get a large gas biplane.

I noticed the pop-up add, and biplanes always catch my attention. Does anyone have any information too this plane? When I finally go giant scale gas, it will for sure be with a biplane, and I was looking at this plane as a new possiblity. Anyone with experience with this plane SPEAK UP.

The servo will be placed in the stock radio tray position. As for the camera, I had it in Macro setting,(closeup), set for light sensitivity, and all other modes of closeup photography. Oh well, shes workin fine again now.

RE: Saito 1.50 mounted PICS. Thoughts on servo positioning?
[image]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/91282835.jpg[/image] The elevator setup will be as shown, duplicated on the other side, and with larger, aluminum servo arms. Extensions goin up the fuse. Servo's will be placed where the existing horn is, just waiting on some tools before I begin cutting. [image]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/91282874.jpg[/image] In this picture you can see the two control rods coming out of the stock rudder/elevator push and pull locations. These are now going to be the rudder pull pull holes. I am going to pickup the wire and links for the pull pull this weekend. I found a Hitec Digital high torque servo in my flight box that I totally forgot about, so that will be chillin on the rudder. [image]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/91283510.jpg[/image] Rudder stripped and ready for extension, needs more wood added for control horns mounting. [image]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/91283516.jpg[/image] Charging jack and on/off switch mounted up nice and clean like. [image]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/91283519.jpg[/image] I dont think that having the rudder servo fore of the tailwheel would have worked out. I think that I would have had things getting in the way of each other, plus in the event of a mishap, I would rather the rudder servo survive a crash. [image]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/91283970.jpg[/image] 6volt 2000 mah receiver pack mounted. Zip ties are CA'ed to the fuse, and the battery is held down. The white thing on the left mounted too the fuse is just used to hold wires together. And for good measure me pitching from last weeks game [:D] [image]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/91284103.jpg[/image] Sorry for the poor pics of the plane, my camera is acting up. RE: saito 180 to big for a funtana .90 ?
[quote]ORIGINAL: C140 Brothers all saito 150,180 and ys 140 are over kill the best engine is a ys 110fz on yamada 20/20 fuel and that is enough power not over kill or under power and whats the point of making the plane lighter if you are over powering plane there is no point atol. Kane [/quote] Saying that they are overkill is off base. Yes, they are more power than needed, but it is not more power than could be desired. Keeping the plane light is a KEY factor in plane performance, regardless of power source. No use in putting all the power in if the plane will fly like crap due too high wingloading. Thats my take...

that what I had in mind, only I accidently said aft instead of fore. But, I love your idea of the tray, vs. just having it mounted directly too the fuse. Makes moe sense as well. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSIGHT. anyone else?

Saito 1.50 mounted PICS. Thoughts on servo positioning?
Mounted up the engine today, and in the process of doing so, It became clear I had a slight problem. I was slightly nose heavy at the recomended cg. Now, the cg was recomended at 3.5 from leading edge, which I can already tell would be way too far forward of how I like to fly. So, not much stuff to move around in the radio tray to adjust the cg, and we my building buddy(my uncle), were thinking of how too adjust the cg. At the same moment, we were kinda upset with the kit that it was push/pull on rudder and elevator. We both wanted pull/pull elevator and rudder, but it would require alot of efftort and work to make it happen with the servos in teh ratio tray. I then realized that I could easily mounth the rudder and elevator servo in the tail, and not only would it help the pull pull issue, it would also help the cg issue. We then taped down the servos, and the hardware, too see how the cg was effected, and it was almost pefect. I then had brilliant idea, and I now will be running dual elevator servo's, each pull pull out the sides of the fuse, and a pull pull rudder servos inverted on the fuse aft of the tailwheel. I will get pics of the tail setup asap, but here is some pics of the engine mounted. ANY COMMENTS WELCOME. [img]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/90858793.jpg[/img] [img]http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL348/2308668/4529300/90858796.jpg[/img] again, COMMENTARY WANTED, and any thoughts on my idea for the tail would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
