RE: Ace foam wing cores
Hey Rog! 4 yrs? Nah, it hasn't been that long. I just recently got back to NC from NY and points east. Been chasing after work and not been flying at all, with the exception of one day with my Dad up on Long Island. Hopefully I can secure a decent job here back home and get back into flying this fall. Hope all's been well with you and the 1/2a Crew! Tim[8D]

RE: MDS engines???
I had an MDS 40 that came with a Horizon Hobbies trainer years ago. Biggest POS I ever tried to get to run correctly. Pure garbage. I gave it away to a guy I didn't like!! (Only kidding) MDS stands for Metal Door Stop!

RE: evolution .46 nx engine ??help??
I've got a Evolution .46 and also a .61NT and have nothing but good experiences with them. I planted the .61 six inches in the ground once and after a little cleaning, it still runs great. I've found that they like 15% a little better than 10% fuel though.

RE: What to build with these wings???
ORIGINAL: combatpigg I think all foam wings need inlaid spars or stressed skin, so might as well use the lightest virgin "bead board" foam instead of the heavier molded type, if you can. Quick, full depth spar slots can be done on a table saw with a cheap paneling blade, then glue in 1/8" hard balsa spars. You can even use a knife if you lay out good lines and are good with a knife. A really clean slice job can be rejoined with 3M77, a hack job can be rejoined with Gorilla Glue. Avoid water based glue for deep glue jobs in foam, some places never completely dry once the surface areas dry and seal off the interior.
Exactly what I used to do with my home-cut "Ace" style wings! BTW CP, Love your new signature! Wanna take a little trip to Washington DC with me and clean house?[;)]

RE: What to build with these wings???
Just wondering, are the newer Ace wings still molded and have the slightly raised circles or dimples on the surface like they used to be?

RE: MythBusters Airplane Takeoff Myth
ORIGINAL: da Rock The industry moved to discs with their platter shape to benefit from the more easily manufactured surface accuracy. And platters are easier to spin up to speed. Less mass.
My first computer related job was running an IMB system3 mainframe. The hard drive was the size of a large refrigerator and the disks were a stack the size of LP records that went down into a drawer in the machine. That was about 30 yrs ago! Anyone else remember OCL punch cards too?[X(]

RE: MythBusters Airplane Takeoff Myth
Am I missing something here or what? Why the heck would the airplane care what the wheels are doing, the Prop acts like a screw in the air and pulls it foward. It's AIR speed that make it take off not ground speed.

RE: Ama bill
Funny, I never get a BILL from the AMA either, I just renew online, it's really pretty easy even with Slow connection speeds[8|] Sounds like with all your issues regarding this, maybe just flying at home would be the easiest thing for you seeing as you're not into the "Club Thing" anymore. Your homeowners should cover your insurance liabilities. Besides, no one's going to hold a gun to your head to renew your membership![:D]

RE: AMA Plan Pricing - Way Too High?
I think it's great that the AMA has these plans on file and available to us. As far as the price, they're okay in my book. Have you bought any Balsa stock lately? Also, the only guys I know of still building from scratch are us old farts. Oh, yeah, and our dads!![:D]

RE: Another Rookie question
I've got an Hangar 9 Extra Easy with an Evolution .46 in it and I use 12 #64's on it. 4 on each side front to back, and the last 4 criss crossed. Might be a little too much, but with all I've out it thru, the wing hasn't ever budged. Not even when I flew it thru a tree one time Ha Ha!![:D]

RE: AMA SAFTEY COUNCIL
That's the great thing about America, You are free to do as many stupid things you want. While I haven't a clue as to the legal ramifications if someone got hurt from this type of thing, I do know that AMA rules are not laws and there's no AMA cops out there either. As an AMA member and someone with just good sense, I follow the AMA guidelines regarding this tpye of activity and also when I'm building and firing model rockets with my kids.
