RE: what is the simplest/safest/most reliable radio system for a giant?
I use a Spektrum DX-7 (Tx) and AR-7000 (Rx). Have split elevators and ailerons with a couple mixes left over. About as simple and cost effective as it gets.

I noticed that I get more wing rock in harriers if the elevator rate is really dialed up a lot. Seems that about 35 degrees and it's really smooth. I was going to post some flying pics from this weekend but my brother couldn't work the camera. [X(] Anyway here's how the extra fits into a Toyota Prius!

AS far as using the Hitec arms I've cut one side off the double horn and it's a 1.25" horn. Thick enough to fly with and I've put them through some very violent stuff without any problems. You'll get enough throw to do most flying and can change to the 1.5 arms when they come in.

RE: Need help: Entry level Gasser questions
I can fit an EF Extra fuse into my Toyota Solara by removing the stabs and gear. I simply put the passenger seat down and it fits in through the passenger door. It rests on its side with the rudder above the rear deck and the spinner to the glovebox. All other gear in the truck. That fuse is 88" from the spinner to the rear of the rudder. Not many 50cc planes longer. John

I just read a post on the other site by Don Scur and he mentioned giving left aileron and releasing to stop wing rock. Might try that. I've also read a lot where Yaks are noted for wing rock in harriers.

You might want to ensure there is some breathing room at the carb intake. Looks pretty close to the firewall in the picture. I'm not sure what your engine manufacturer recommends. I make sure I have about an inch or so.

RE: 50cc Setup Guide?
On my 50cc planes I've been using a single A123 2300Mah pack with dual output leads into an AR7000 Rx thru MPI switches. No issues during the past 2 years. Ignition is an 1100Mah NiCad and I've flown 6 flights and during the charge cycle had plenty of reserve battery. This would save about 6-7 ounces over the 2 A123 packs and a 2700Mah. I've seen the pin/flag switch but think they are discontinued. Couldn't find them on the Fromeco site. Good luck! John

Joe, Sorry to hear about your accident. But the repairs look like they are going good, especially the gear!! What rudder servo are you using and you think it's enough torque? I only ask because I have a HS5955 on mine and I'm wondering if it's enough for a knife-edge loop. High alpha knife seems to bounce a bit and I was thinking it was blowback and I was going to upgrade it.

I'm also sure you will not be disappointed. Fly it! You can loose a few ounces easily with some battery choices. Ex: I have a 4.8v 900mah battery for ignition that weighs 1.2 ounces. Enough for 4-6 flights.

Dave, Any of those aircraft mentioned will work fine with that 50cc engine. If you are not in a rush and want to see some of those flying then come on over to Piedment Aeromodelers Fall Fly-in Sept 25-27. See them up close and personal.

Anyone know if a ZDZ drill jig can be used to drill prop for a 3W 60? I have the drill jig (not the engine) and a friend needs a prop drilled. If you know great (thanks) ... if not we'll get the engine and jig and check it out. Thanks in advance. John
ORIGINAL: JoeAirPort Wassup?
Between work, my son, and vacation I got out today for the first time in over 4 weeks. Despite the windy conditions I put in 3 good flights. Dialed my expo down from 10% to 5% and it seemed to be just a little shy of rolling completely axial. I'll try 7% next time out. The plane really grooves and I spent a lot of time going from inverted flats spins to inverted harrier. Trying to work them lower! The plane makes it easy and looks really sharp. James - I have the red/white/blue one so I can't help with the colors. I'm sure a quick e-mail to EF will get you the answer. John

Easy to fix, especially if you have the original parts to put back into place. Then it's a matter of getting the joints spliced to provide strength. Ask around and you'll find someone out there that can walk you through it.

I'd agree with Joe on this. I had a Vess and it would really make some noise. Switched to a Zoar 23x8 laminated and reduced noise along with better pull. From the folks I've talked with I think a 3 blade would detract from performance.

Power the ignition with a NiCad/NiNmh and it's about as easy as it gets.

RE: Plane Restraint Suggestions
Our field (now) has 2" PVC poles sunk into the ground about 24" with a 36" section sticking out. They are wrapped with pipe insulation. You put the wings against the poles and unless the wings come off the plane it isn't moving. Simple and cost effective.

I've got a very small amount and it seems to roll very straight however every time I take it out it's either too windy to get it checked correctly or I end up having too much fun flying and end up "goofing around" for the flight. More often the later but it sure puts a grin on your face. [:D] Just check my Tx settings and it's 10% differential ... if you need the degree I'll have to measure the ailerons.

RE: Extreme Flight 88
You're CG check sounds like you have the CG in just about the perfect spot ... you should get a nice large arc to the canopy when you roll over on the 45 degree upline. Of course you could move it if you like it more rearward if you prefer a bit tail heavy or forward for nose heavy. Good luck with further trimming/flying.

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!!
I'd still change the prop for $30 and fly the plane ... it's not going to degrade the performance. Then if I didn't like it I'd consider investing in a $250 tuned pipe system. It's not going to hurt to systematically go this route. And yes the 5985 servos will be fine on the rudder and elevator. Most folks use the 5955 or 7955 because of the titanium gear train.

You could try the 23x8 prop first (your choice of brand) and then add a tuned pipe if you need more top end power. In fact I have a RE2 pipe that I used for three flights sitting on the shelf that I'd part with. Either way the prop would be an easy check.

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!!
Had a Vess 23A and it was decent. Lots of RPM and lots of noise without enough improvement in the performance for me to keep it on the plane. I went to the Zoar 23x8 laminated and the perfomance is better with a significant decrease in noise. I'm using a cannister so my RPMs will be close to a pitts muffler perfomance. BTW - the last time I tached my engine it was turning the 23x8 Zoar at 6700 on the ground but the flight performance is spot on.
