RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
Re: the landing gear...I would add some beef to the fuse where they mount up. My gear ripped out early on when I hit a crack in the pavement and I've heard of others doing the same. I re-installed the gear and added some triangle stock and have had no further problems. $.02

Hey, how goes the build? Nice job on the hatch. I did mine incorrectly but it works. Not sure why I had such a hard time with it.

That is the ugliest airplane I've ever seen that does not belong to me. You also have the best shop I have ever seen. Carry on.

RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
It is subjected to shear loads every time you make a control input. While mine has also not shown any wear, the 1/8" dowel is not very confidence inspiring and I've heard of a few SSE's lost from this pin moving or breaking. Mine is epoxied in and I'll be leaving it as is. Just sayin'.

RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
I think a very worthwhile mod would be to increase the anti-rotational dowel on the wing root to 3/16 or 1/4 " I epoxied mine well but I do worry about it sometimes.

RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
I would not recommend an HS55 for a throttle servo. I would think HS65 or better due to vibration concerns. .02 Try an APC 13x4 with that 55ax if you get a chance. I think you would like it.

RE: Got a Sure Shark to build?
I like the scoops! You could always cut a hole at the back of the scoop to allow air to pass through if you are really worried about it. You will still have more drag than without them but I'm betting it will fly just fine. I need to finish mine. I can't get the AP .061 to run and gave up on it for a while. I disassembled the engine and found that I'm missing the clear gasket at the base of the cylinder which raises compression. I'm thinking that is the problem.

RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
I like the kit mods. I don't know if it worth $100. FWIW, this airplane does not need flaperons or a flap mod. I have to say, I'm not sure if you picked the right model for what you are trying to accomplish. The SSE does not tip stall. This airplane has trainer like wing loading, a very low landing speed, and a totally different airfoil than what you will find in a warbird. There is no shortage of inexpensive warbird ARF's prone to tip stalling that you could buy and equip cheaper than the SSE bash you propose. By all means, do what you want to. I like your design ideas and would like to see the build, but I think there are better ways to learn to fly warbirds. Good luck and I look forward to your build. Here is my 2nd kit build SSE. RE: I hope somebody photoshopped this, I didn't
NTSB Identification: DEN07CA035. The docket is stored in the Docket Management System (DMS). Please contact Records Management Division 14 CFR Part 91: General Aviation Accident occurred Thursday, December 07, 2006 in Falcon, CO Probable Cause Approval Date: 3/26/2007 Aircraft: Piper PA-28-180, registration: N6487J Injuries: 1 Minor. According to the pilot, he was established on a base leg for runway 15 when the engine lost power. The pilot lined up with an adjacent road and continued for a forced landing. The pilot stated that prior to the landing he checked his carburetor heat, mixture, throttle, and magnetos in attempt to troubleshoot the power loss. He stated that he observed car lights and "swerved into [the] tree." The airplane became lodged in the tree, resulting in substantial damage. An examination of the engine and related systems revealed no anomalies. The routine aviation weather report reported, temperature minus 01 degrees Celsius (C); dewpoint, minus 05 degrees C. According to the carburetor icing probability chart conditions were conducive for "serious icing at glide power" and "serious icing at cruise power." The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows: loss of power due to carburetor icing. Contributing factors were weather conditions conducive to carburetor icing, unsuitable terrain available on which to make a forced landing and the tree. Full narrative available

RE: Raindave...need plans/advice
Thanks for the links, guys. I'm looking for something a little lighter than the Super Pacer but larger than the .061-.074 range machines probably in the .10 range. I like the super pacer and could probably get the weight down on it. If I build it I'll post my progress.

RE: Raindave...need plans/advice
I'm planning on using a (perish the thought) high kv electric 5.7x3 or 6x3. I want to build one over the winter rather than ARF it. Still sitting on a 70% complete sure shark also. My inability to get get the brand new .061 wasp to run has put a damper on that project for a while. Oh, and a 9 mo. old baby. I like the older, fast pattern types. I already have a Kaotic and a Kaos so I'm looking for something a bit different. Thanks Crasher

RE: AMA Video scheme
The AMA is fine. The marketing ploy is not. The only way I can act against the AMA or anyone else's policies/actions that I don't like is with my wallet. People in Muncie may not worry about 1 person not renewing membership, but I guarantee I'm not the only person who found their strategy irritating. This is just not a classy way to market your stuff. I'm desperately sorry you have to pay taxes.

RE: AMA Video scheme
As I stated before, I don't belong to the AMA for the magazines, shiny trinkets, credit cards or clothing selection. I belong to the organization solely for the ability to fly at the field, which I pay separate dues for and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't need AMA cra pmail added to the stacks that show in my mailbox. I'm not sure this marketing campaign is an efficient use of my membership dues and it is definitely an annoyance. The magazine would be a great place to advertise these videos so that those that wanted them could order them. And this was unsolicited merchandise not mail. I'm over it. I was disappointed to see this tactic used by the AMA and if I can find the letter, I'll scan it. It was not worded as you say above.

AMA Video scheme
I recently received a video in the mail, 1st in a series that the AMA is making. The instructions were to keep the video and pay $9 or return it and keep the case for free. Are you kidding me? I paid for my membership to the AMA for specific reasons, namely the ability to fly at my local field. I in no way solicited this 'offer' or the hassle of having to send the thing back, though it came with a return label. Is this really an efficient use of the club's resources? I thought this was very lame and if I get more of these things in the mail, I'll cancel my membership and fly off the very abundant rural roads and fields where I live. This is a tactic BMG music and others used in the '80's-'90's. Unordered Merchandise from findlaw.com It is a violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act to send unordered merchandise through the mail unless it is a free sample marked as such or is sent by a charitable organization asking for, but not requiring, a contribution. Most states treat unordered merchandise as a gift. Persons sending unordered merchandise through the mail are prohibited from demanding payment, and you have the right to keep the goods or to dispose of the goods in any manner you wish. Moreover, billing for unordered merchandise may constitute mail fraud and/or misrepresentation. Federal law also protects you if you accidentally order merchandise (you sign your name to accept receipt of samples of a product or you accept an unwanted package because of misleading language). You can return it without charge. If you receive unordered merchandise that you find offensive or especially annoying, contact your local postmaster, the chief postal inspector in Washington, D.C., or the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. The FTC has nationwide Jurisdiction over deceptive, unfair marketing practices. However, it does not usually get involved in individual disputes or "annoyance mail." The postal service is the appropriate agency to contact if the material you are receiving is explicitly sexual and sent to minors or if it is not so labeled. In situations involving defective merchandise where there is a pattern of complaints about a company, the FTC can intercede to compel the return of all customers' money or fulfillment of their orders. It is also a good idea to contact your local Better Business Bureau to seek redress.
