RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
That thing is beautiful, Im not much of one for old school planes from the 30s but that looks super. Glad to hear. I havent been able to fly for a while due to work. Hopefully in a month or so I will have time to play.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
Ok so its been a while since I was able to post here but have a couple things I gotta say. First right before fire season cooked off with a vengance I was able to have one great day of flying and put 3 flights on the plane with this engine. It ran really well. I have no idea of numbers but Ill tell you this that my MXSR came in at what I thought was a little heavy but it hovers at a little less than 1/2 throttle which seemed to me to be pretty freakin great. I was totally stoked with that. I want to make some minor adjustments to the setup of things but Im happy with it. Secondly I was contacted by PTE sometime back after reading about my experiences here. Between them and Redwing RC I was given an incredible experience that really impressed me. Guys Iv been flyin rc for 25 years and there are few things that impress me but this was customer service that went WAY beyond. Ill definitely keep this in mind in the future with my purchases. It took me a bit to get back here and post about this due to work but I have to publicly say that these folks made it more than right as far as Im concerned and I greatly appreciate it.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
The weather got too hot. Its been in the low to mid 80s here then yesterday went to 98. Still gettin used to hot weather. All good though. Got my assignment this morning and headed out to chase some fire in central Utah for a while. Its hot, dry and business is good down there.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
I remember that post. Thats what made me check into the timing. I spent some more time with it and got it to where it fires right on the money now. Took it out this morning and ran it a bit. Was easy starting and ran fine. Actually got 3 flights in before it got too hot. Im running a Xoar 19x8 and that thing hauls. Rarely got over half throttle, even in the vertical lines. I might prop it back a bit. I know that in electric world if I went down a size that the motor would run cooler, can I expect the same here?

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
Perfect. Thats what I was thinkin and hoping, just wanted to make sure. Its in a GW MXSR and has almost too much power anyway. The last flight it was hovering at less than half throttle as it was and that was running super rich.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
Had a few minutes to tinker today. Got an Rcexl ignition for it. That was the issue at least so far. Now it runs so Im happy about that. The next thing is that I want to make sure its running the way it should so now Im into new territory again. Just now I put in a piston block and made the 2 marks on the case, then marked the middle which should be TDC. By this calculation Im way off on the timing as in its firing 10 to 15 degrees too soon. Would the engine run with it this far off? Ok EDIT: My dumb ass measured on the wrong side so its actually pretty close. The timing is about 2mm past the mark for 28 degrees. It runs and sounds fine to me. Ill see about getting it closer but the screws and holes are just off a bit and I may have a hard time getting it dead on. Thoughts?

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
I was lucky enough to have today off and took it out to see what I could work out on trouble shooting. I came to the conclusion that the ignition has something going on. Heres what brings me to that. My standard starting is to choke and flip til it sputters and then take the choke off, couple flips later it should start. All I get is a sputter choked and a sputter after taking the choke off with the later being a longer sputter, maybe 4 or 5 firing strokes then dies. I get this regardless where the needles are set from lean to a point that drowns the spark plug. The other thing I did was pull the plug and seat it in the cap so that i could see the spark. What I found was that the first few flips gave me good spark then a series of weak ones that I could hear but not see like the first ones. Think Ill get another ignition and try that before I send it back to Mike to have him check it out.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Grodus, not sure why it didnt open for ya. It worked for me. It was also listed way back, someone might chime in to the post number that it was posted in. Another thing I found aluminum bolts to replace the nylon bolts with. Got them from Pro Bolt, a bicycle/motorcycle outfit. They have a number of different bolt designs, 2 of which would work for this plane. The Allen Heads were about $1.50 each and the others were $3+ each. I ordered the Allens yesterday and figured I could put washers under the heads and be fine.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
Got it in March from ibcinyou. It has 2 short flights and about 4 tanks of gas thru it. I havent chatted with him about it yet and Im sure that he would try to make it right. Just very disappointed in the experience so far. My flying time is limited and I wont be able to fly til september due to work chasin fire over the hill. I had hoped that Id be able to have a little time with this plane before the season started. Thats where my disappointment comes from.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
So after reading this thread and thinkin about it for a while I purchased one of these and had great service in getting the engine. The good experience pretty much ends there for me. I have to admit that Im not the most expereinced in gas engines, Iv had a DLA 56 that ran ok and an Evo 45GX2 that runs like a dream. I mounted this engine on a Goldwing MXSR and the exhaust pipes were about a 1/2" short so I put some extentions on, which then just broke the weld on the muffler pipe. Got another one to replace it with. After that the little screw on the choke came out (same as mentioned before), fortunatley I caught it before it was ingested. The threads in one of the standoffs stripped out without cranking on the screw very hard. The last flight ended with a deadstick and hard landing that broke the spark plug and damaged the cap. I fixed the cap and replaced the plug. While putting things back together I discovered that one of the screw holding the hall sensor was loose, tried to tighten it only to find that there were no threads in the hole to screw into, they were stripped. The manual says that the stock carb settings are 1.5 turns on the low needle and 2 turns on the high. This wouldnt even think of starting at those settings and ended up being almost 3 turns on the low and 2.5 on the high. It wont even start now, sputters but wont run. Iv tried everything I can think of but nothin. Im quite disaapointed in this engine at this point.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Just a thought but the pitching up makes me wonder about the servos on the elevator. Cant remember if it was this thread a few days ago but in the last week I read somewhere about servo arms coming loose by either cracking or stripping the teeth. Being that it happened the way you described I think thats where I might start. Sorry to hear about this. Its one thing to dumb thumb but really sucks when its hard to explain.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
I got one of these and love the power. Only issue Iv had is the welds on both pipes on the exhaust have failed. One fell off on the maiden flight. When I took the cowl off I can see the other is cracking around the weld and oil has seeped through. This is the only problem I have other than that it starts very easy and has tons of power.

Dr Honda, Now that you have some time on your landing gear what do you think about the demensions that you used? Im thinkin in terms of thickness and width. I am getting to a point that Im bout to buy the aluminum to make my own gear. What was the width that you used?

servo questions....
Over the years I have used JR, Futaba and Hitec depending on the application blah blah. So now Im looking at some Power-HD servos and trying to compare the HD-2213MG to the Hitec HS225MG. The HD is digital where as the Hitec is not but the torque is close to the same. What I am after is has anyone had experience with both of these and what did you think of the Power-HD servos? Thank for your time.

RE: need parts for custom build...
Wow wish my bench was that clean. there are parts of mine that havent seen daylight in years. lol. As for the project. I bought a Walker Bulldog to get the idea of how things work. Now Im building up a 1/10 scale Paladin. I didnt really care to make my own tracks so in looking around a bit the HL tracks for the Pershing will be just about right for it in size and close enough in look for what Im doing at this point. Ill have to use 2 sets in order to have enough track for both sides. At 1/10 scale Ill put a paintball gun in to have fun with.

If not its all good Ill just get replacements, thought Id try this first. So if you have a set that you would part with please drop me an email and lets talk. Thanks guys

RE: what size engine should i use?
Being at the altitude Im at here what would be a good test of an engine here to see if its going to cut the mustard? Guess Im thinking along the lines of measuring lbs of thrust versus weight of the plane. Would that be a good way to get an idea? If so what sort of ratio should I be looking for?

what size engine should i use?
i have been using electric power for so long that im having a hard time picking an engine. the plane is a cox model 12 that i picked up. had a dla56 layin around so i mounted it but im not so sure that it will have enough power to hover nicely. i live at 4300 msl so i need that taken into consideration. with the dla it weighs in at 18 pounds. thoughts?
