RE: The 1 hour club!
My longest flight was a bit over 5 hrs, with an electrified Global easy Answer, That was a pearler of a day, one 20 sec climb out and was looking foir sink more than lift, regularly specking out. several members also had a 'fly' while I needed restroom lol. My old 174" R/E glider regularly flew flights of 1hr plus and often 2. I also used to launch that old glider of the cliffs on a calmer day, and find lift and get way up hi, does tht count as slope or soaring??? I have found the best days for thermals are the partly cloudy up to 7/10's cloud cover. I usually took both a glider and nitro/gas planes to the field, but good thermal days saw my fuelers never assembled at the field. I often just lay down on the grass flying my gliders, the guys at the clubs used to say I was a "lazy bugger" lol but it sure saves the neck after a long flight. Nothing like breaking that 1 hour mark, congrats cheers

RE: how to straiten a 1.250
If you have used heat on the tube you may as well bin it now, you have weakened it quite a bit by doing so, and also ruined the tempering. It will now bend/break a lot easier.

Been contemplating the edf issue, and found a set of plans for a very similar plane, unlabelled so no idea what, been discussing it with a mate. what we might do is build one with 2 edf in it, both in same tube but 1 reversed with a diffuser in between, could be an interesting exercise

a buddy had one of these back in my sloping days, highly aerobatic but did need a a min of 10-15kn to fly well. As noted not a lot of room for a motor but would fly ok electrified. I dont recall my buddies having landing gear either.

servo's for T-rex 700
Hi I have just bought a t-rex 700 and I have decided to get all new servo's for it. I would like advice and what servo's are suitable. I only use JR or hitec servo's. Also does anyone have any exoerience with the align 2in1 regulator? I like the idea of the onboard glow, and have a supply of lipos on hand. I havent had anything to do with nitro helis since I bought my old ergo 60 many years ago cheers johnno

I'd just give it a good rinse with some mixed fuel, then run it again before oiling it again. methanol is actually my personal preference for cleaning epoxies and resins

RE: Please help identify this plane
looks to be thew same as the Maratuka L-19 I used to have. It will fly nicely with a .70-.90 4c motor. it will fly much the same as a cub, with similar ground handlling, that is scale like take offs work best. Once flying will do nice gentle aerobatics or putt putt around very nicely. I used to get 30-40 min flights easily with a 16oz tank and an old OS 4c

you got it one, also using rubber only you'd end up with the glider ploughing in as the rubber shortens beyond the height gained and the glider gets pulled down again, dont ask how I found out [:@][:(]

i'd like to see some of the giant scale kits brought back, I recently sold my Lanier 40% edge, but have another kit to build soon, but would love to get another one or two, but would also like to get something different to compliment my hangar too. I would like to see maybe an extra 260, or an Ultimate in the 100-150cc class, I would definately consider buying both of those.

RE: Modifying a really old 3m sailplane
Y ou could electrify it, but personally I wouldnt. To do so you would be looking for approximately 80-100 watts per lb to get a reasonably good climbout. In that range I'd also look for a motor with a low Kv rating (rpm/volt) that can swing a bigger diameter prop. I'd also look for a motor esc to run 3s lipo or 4s at most. there plenty of motors out there to choose from. Another option that may be worth a look is to use a topmounted power pod, which is removable, that would give you the option of powered/unpowered.

RE: Anyone Else Having Trouble With Super Monokote?
Hi ed, I see now and understand, no dramas. regarding sending it back to the supplier here would only have resulted in a further waste money in postage. The seller made it clear when I called he would NOT refund or replace the dodgy covering in any manner. gary, you talk of respect? I find your comments disrespectful and insulting not only to myself, but to all people here who have used the new mk and found the same issues that I have to one degree or another. PM me if you want to further discuss our cultural differences etc I was brought up to give respect and credit when due, but also to stand up for my self too. As for MK I have use it for many years, all of my planes have had two or more of 5 colours of mk, which were my base colours. My last I bought was 4 25' rolls, 2 transpsarent and 2 solid colours, none of which I could do anything with. As others have said here too, I am not here to trash mk, but would like to see the issue address by the manufacturers/wholesalers, but seeing as how thier response to individuals is less than satisfactory one can only hope that a public outcry will give them something to think about.

RE: Anyone Else Having Trouble With Super Monokote?
no, I am not looking for an excuse, just going that way because I enjoy working the silk and dope, and I am also ordering a batch of another brand of covering for my powerplanes. I am using silk and dope because I like it, and I can still get a trransparent finish with the dope stained to my colours. Also I am Not trashing mk unfairly, the last 4 rolls I bought were unusable and the response from the seller was poor to say the least, so I am now out of pocket for the cost of 4 25' rolls. I can cover with silk and dope for a fraction of the cost. admittedly its also a lot more work, and maybe heavier too, but it works. Also mk has been my covering of choice for many years and it saddens me greatly that its come to this, but due to lack of any back up from seller or mk.

gary, I am curious, how would you positively promote a bodgy product? the way i see it, by alerting other people to the issues we are having, and at the same time hopefully alerting the sellers and manufacturers hopefully we can hopefully get the product fixed up. As I have said before, I have used MK for many years but last lot was terrible to say the least, and if think its expensive over there try to buy it here.

RE: Anyone Else Having Trouble With Super Monokote?
seems you missed the point gary, 'I dont like the new MK'. I have used Mk for many years and it was my first choice for covering. The last batch I got is totally unworkable, and I am NOT the only one having serious issues with it. You also say this is a site for promoting our hobby, yes I agree, but also a site to discuss planes and accessories and all other relevant sections in rc. Its also for discussing what works and what doesnt, and here the point is that the new MK 'does not work!' I wonder why you are reading this thread if you only want to read about 'happy happy times?'

I'll take a bet that the monkey the guru's in IL is not the same monkeytkrap we get, they will be getting all "QC" stock direct from the manufacturer. was an interesting weekend, I found out that I am far from the only one that has major issues using monkeykrap, and some other builders have done like me in the last couple months and dumped the mono and gone to another brand. hmmmm I dare say the clowns who reworked the mono werte probably too busy watching kung fu panda too, than to check what they were doing with the mono. Irrespective of what the problems is and where, mono is strictly of my shopping period, it doesnt work anymore, and service here doesnt exist and an email to Il hasnt even got a reply. I'll be back to using silk/dope on my gliders, probably toughlon on my powerplanes, and considering even going back to tissue and dope on a couple smaller electrics just for a trip dowm memory lane.

one method I use to hold and control wiring is to ca a piece of fuel tubing about 1/2 inch thats been sliced lengthwise on one side, just slide in the wire and its there till its pulled out again. I find it works best with the slice to one side rather than straight up

the V-tail on your glider look to be large and should be quite effective. As for hooking up servo's to spoilers I would look to uyse the slimline wing servo's like the hitec HS-125 or or the jr equivalent, with over 40oz of torque will be more than adequate for spoilers.

RE: Anyone Else Having Trouble With Super Monokote?
I have just ripped the covering of the wings of my newly build glider and i am spewing I bought 2 - 25' rolls of trabnsparent maroon, and both now have gone out in the trash along with the rest of the rolls and ofcuts I wont need for patching. Totally unworkable to get any sort of finish. I have used monocote for many years but this last lot was pure unadultered crap. wouldnt stick properly, apply a little more heat and I could throw my iron sock away. and more wrinkles than my 94 yr old granma which would not come out no matter what I did with it. I have 4 other gliders I have covered with mon that still look great, but this last lot wasnt usable at all I will be using silk and dope now on my gliders, and going by how well the toughlon sample I tried today worked I will use that on my powered planes. I dont need the aggravation of working with a defective product. As for sending the crap back for a replacement?? my supplier just laughed, even when i run this thread up for him, said he never heard about it. Just a fistful of dollars out the window I could have better used on something that works.

I am inclined to agree with soarrich, I prefer A123 packs too, and the marginal weight penalty I feel is more than ofset by as hi an output if not higher, very fast charge capability and no fire hazard so no need to remove packs from aircraft for charging. Thge only thing I use lipo's on these days is my 450 sized heli
