RE: DLE 35RA on a 35cc Extra 300
Hi Mark, in the for what it is worth department I swapped my Brison 2.4 that was on the 35CC Extra straight up for a DLE35RA. I had my CG about 3/8 of inch behind factory recommendation to start with. No additional weight was necessary to keep the CG there with the DLE 35RA. Flight testing required one click of down trim from the previous settings and performance was equivalent to the Brison or better... No Bad Tendencies or landing issues were noted so I would say anyone could make this work Thanks
ORIGINAL: GerKonig
ORIGINAL: YellowAircraft Hi, Yep, they're costly. There's also the human cost, too. When I was a kid, a drunk-driver took out a close family member when he was only 16. When I was in the police reserves, I saw a few DUI accidents and that cliche about the drunk who caused it being the one who walks away is more true than you might think. I don't have a lot of sympathy for DUI's. If you're a big mucky-muck in the Department of Transportation, and you get convicted of DUI, I think you should immediately lose your job. It's supposed to be about accountability, and the fact that he wasn't on the job at that moment means very little to me.
I can tell you that if you work for the DoJ (FBI) it would get you fired instantly... They have specific rules about that. Maybe the FAA also has rules about the same... Gerardo
Security Clearances can be lost with a DUI also!!!

RE: P_51 Mustang crashes into crowds at Reno
Biggest thing I see here is that it is flting as an Experimental... At that point they are not using the Type Certificate for a P-51. see below, this also to the unitiated will be cause for alarm and theatrics. See the Air Racing section below... Experimental Category | Updated: 1:52 pm ET June 7, 2011 A special airworthiness certificate in the experimental category is issued to operate an aircraft that does not have a type certificate or does not conform to its type certificate and is in a condition for safe operation. Additionally, this certificate is issued to operate a primary category kit-built aircraft that was assembled without the supervision and quality control of the production certificate holder. Special airworthiness certificates may be issued in the experimental category for the following purposes: Research and development: to conduct aircraft operations as a matter of research or to determine if an idea warrants further development. Typical uses for this certificate include new equipment installations, operating techniques, or new uses for aircraft. Showing compliance with regulations: to show compliance to the airworthiness regulations when an applicant has revised the type certificate design data or has applied for a supplemental type certificate or field approval. Crew training: for training the applicant’s flight crews in experimental aircraft for subsequent operation of aircraft being flight tested in type certificate programs or for production flight testing. Exhibition: to exhibit an aircraft’s flight capabilities, performance, or unusual characteristics for air shows, motion pictures, television, and similar productions, and for the maintenance of exhibition flight proficiency. Air racing: to operate an aircraft in air races, practice for air races, and to fly to and from racing events. Market surveys: to conduct market surveys, sales demonstrations, and customer crew training for U.S. manufacturers of aircraft or engines. Operating amateur-built, kit-built, or light-sport aircraft Special Airworthiness Certificate, Experimental Category for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Optionally Piloted Aircraft (OPA)

RE: P_51 Mustang crashes into crowds at Reno
It will not be the Planes or the Pilots that potentially shut down the Races, rather it will be the excessive cost of insuring the event. Apparently the lawyers are already in action here. Thoughts and prayers go out to all affected.

RE: F-16 off the end of runway at Oshkosh.
Yes, as a matter of fact I have an RF-4C story to share... While Stationed at Mountain Home AFB in Idaho... The Guard unit at Boise had RF-4C aircraft. A sortie was flying through the Snake River Canyon (May or may not have been below the Rim of the Canyon)... And no one would admit their airspeed either Any way they flew into a Goose on the Front Left Side of the Canopy. Of course the Goose came through the Canopy and Shredded the left shoulder of the Pilot. Fortunately the back seater had some 30 or so hours in a 172 which allowed him enough knowledge to climb and maintain an altitude. At the time we had F-111A aircraft at Mountain Home suit. Long story short a Formation flight back to MTN Home talks the back seater down to the runway and to an arrested stop on the wire. However then the fun began. As anyone who has flown an F-4 knows 2 things are important here. The front seater had no left arm movement as his muscles were essentially gone. To this date as far as I know he still has no recollection of how the Landing gear ended up in the down position as the Lolipop is the only mechanism to get it down and it is in the front cockpit. Additionally the rear seater cannot retard the Throttle to less than 20% from the back seat, so our Wing Commander climbs up into the F-4, moves the pilot out of the way and retards the throttle and shuts it all down. Pilot lived although his career with the Airlines was over. Not sure where he is now. When we saw the plane in the hangar the next morning it was just amazing the amount of red all over the place. The Full Story is here http://sites.google.com/site/firstclass190thorg/first-class-or-not-at-all/an-amazing-in-flight-rescue/-fango-45-mayday-mayday 8 Apr 1982 I also have an SR-71 story I can share about Mountain Goat as well

RE: F-16 off the end of runway at Oshkosh.
Just a few thoughts here Pilots are always taught to go around rather than push a bad situation on landing. Landing halfway down the runway is NEVER a good idea. He should have know his situation at the 3 board left on the runway and would have had plenty of time!!! As a Flight Instructor I never let a student land halfway down a runway, nor do I let them take off from an intersection.

Well as I expected the Landing gear is now installed and rolling on the ground. This is just a fabulous kit. All of the screws are in individual bags and are easily identified. It just doesn;t get any easier. Engine is next, then radio and smoke.... DLE 55 with a TME smoke system. Maybe an engine run on Sunday

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
Well got the Stabs/Elevators done last night as well as the rudder mounted and the Rudder servo installed.. Gorilla Glue is great stuff, I love the expansion/Fill qualities of it... Certainly putting the Rudder Control horns on prior to mounting the Rudder made the whole thing easier to work with. Less stress or chance of nicking the fuselage by doing it that way. Tonight I should get through to the Engine Mounting and will do all of that tomorrow. There really is not a whole lot someone can do to screw this up... One other note to Rocco/Mark as well as everyone else. The version of the manual that I received on the CD in the kit still has the wrong measurement for the Firewall to Spinner.. EVERYONE make sure you download the Addendum from the website!!!!!! I know this has been mentioned previously here but..... Should have a floor roller by tonight... Also does anyone have any examples of a finished cockpit that a person could copy? How they did it etc?

Thanks Rocco I am also considering adding the Control horns to the Ruder prior to hinging so as to reduce the chance of putting a screwdriver through it and dealing with the whole fuse when I do it... Thoughts?

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
Well what can I say!!! This is one beautiful job... Kit arrived in 2 boxes and took about an hour to unpack and sort through. Took about an hour toi tighten the covering and get rid of the minimal amount of wrinkles. Finished both wing panels tonight and will start on the Stab/Elevator tomorrow... One suggestion for Mark/Rocco. The phillips head screws that are intended for the control horns take alot of pressure to screw in. This is ok as long as you have the right screwdriver/Tip. Why not consider using screws that would allow for using a ball driver instead of Phillips heads? Aside from this the workmanship on the covering job and the overall construction is top notch... Thanks for all the effort you have put into this... Laastly, what is the weight savings by ordering the Carbon accesories instead of the supplied aluminum?
