RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister
Hello all, Been a while since I checked in on this thread. Ray, your jungie's details are sweet. It was also good to see Gary and Matt's jungmanns finished and flying. Ken, hope yours is still in one piece! Mine sits in the shop covered with a bed sheet and after not flying at all last summer except for one sortie with the old trusty Pitts I am going to burn some petrol in that G62 this summer and get out and fly!. Ken, I am glad I didn't sell the Bucker. Roger

Ouch. Looks pretty clean though and definately salvagable. Like you say, "one bite at a time". I am taking the winter off from building this year. Will probably do a few rubber powered FF and I have a 1/2a pylon FF I want to do. Main focus is restoring my 75' MG. Got the urge to do some welding and wrenching.

Nevermind on the radial Moki, just realized that you wrote Jungmann not Jungmiester. Crap, now I will have to build the 133 a playmate, at 35% no less. That is if Gary publishes the plans. If so they will go in the que right behind his Tmoth. Thats next.

Thanks Dorin, I am very satisfied with it. It looks great against a clear blue sky on a mid summer day. Too bad those are over for this year. At 35% Gary will be getting close to where a moki radial would be too cool in that. Good luck in the upcomming competition year. Roger.

Ken, that Decathalon is fantastic. Great job. The Jungie is a great flyer. I found the unpainted Great Planes1/3 scale WWI bust looks alot like Lisel in her flying gear so now that the model is a proven flyer I will get a pilot in the cockpit and a dummy engine up front. Good luck on the SD and try to stay cool down in Tejas. I will get the flight pics to you as soon as my friend sends them.

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister
Hello all, maiden flight on the bucker today. 75 deg with a ESE wind at 5-10. Perfect conditions, perfect maiden flight. What a great flying model. Responsive but rock steady, no surprises. Flew well with the G62 on 40:1 with a Zoar 22x10 turning 6400 rpm on a new engine. Thanks to Mr. Allen for a superb flying design and thanks to Ken for letting me hang out in his cyber hanger for a while. Pics to follow if I can send them to you, Ken, for resizing and publishing. If youre building one of these keep at it. Its well worth it. Roger

LG1 is a great looking jungie for sure. You dont really realize how small this AC is until you see someone sitting in the cockpit with the door down. YR-PAX was my other choice when I was building mine.

Thanks StefanP, as far as I know it is as scale as I could get it. Google Liesel Bach to see what I worked off of. A buddy of mine sent me a link to a German site where another guy just finished one the same way.

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister
Thanks again Ken for posting those for me. And thanks for the compliment. Gordon, I used Sig Koverall with three coats of Polycrylic satin as a dope to seal the weave. It has one coat of Krylon grey primer then Krylon semi-gloss white coated to cover. I have used the Koverall/Polycrylic for the past 5 years now and its my standard for WWI and golden age/civilian models. The Krylon worked well and was very easy to apply on the model. Just watch out for the bugs of July!!! The nose panels were done with the primer over chart-pac tapes method then I used Krylon dark grey for all the metal panels. I dont know how authentic the grey color is as some of my documentation seemed to show clear laquered panels but like most I dont compete and I do my own thing. The vinyl and artwork was done by a fellow club member friend of mine. He has a graphic design program and a vinyl graphics/mask cutter that allowed him to develope the art work for my documentation which required some creative license on my part with what I could find but I think I got it pretty close. The vinyl is .3 mm and went down over the rib stitching and other surface details very well. I am indebted to my friend and owe him the cut parts for Gary's 30% moth when I cut my own. I have a stockG62 in the model now. I checked the CG before taking the wings off and I am right on where the plans suggest so I am very happy not to be adding lead to the bird. Best of luck on yours. This thread has been a tremendous help with mine not to mention some good motivation over a lengthy build. Imagine, Ken built two of the things! Roger

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister
Update on my Bucker. Started applying graphics this week and I am very happy with the choice. I couldnt decide whether to paint or use vinyl. As this is the beginning of my third winter on this project I finally opted for vinyl and it is working out great. All surface detail is captured well under the vinyl. It gives me hope that I will indeed start the GA tiger moth this year! I will post some pics when I get the bucker wrapped up.

Thanks Brad. No Gary is no longer doing the stencils. Was working with my friend at our club meeting last night, using the proofs he provided I made all my adjustments and he is going to cut my stencils this weekend. I have to get my airbrush out and do some practice and compatibility checks and then I am going to shoot the stencils. Its good to get motivated again and finish this project. Thanks for your insight Brother. Roger

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister
What paint mask material do you use? My pal has a nice cutter/plotter that cuts the masks off rolls of material but we are both wondering what the best material would be for model use. He currently has a semi stiff white paper-backed mask. I have used some flexible airbrush masking material for free-hand work but it has no backing and wont work on his cutter. the finish on your bucker is outstanding from the pics. Thanks, Roger.

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister
Ok things are looking up for finishing my Bucker this fall. Spent some time over the past week with a flying buddy who has been helping me with my graphics and masks. Picked up the proofs last night and they look great when put up to the model. Some masks, some vinyl, some dry transfer. The only decision I need to make is whether to use vinyl or paint masks on the big graphics. The vinyl I have access to is .3 mm and I wonder how well it will lay over rib tapes and stiches. I have my concerns going this route. Anyone have any insight? Vinyl gets it done sooner than masking and painting and as I am in year 3 on this project I really would like to wrap it up. Been busy with work and family as of late. Hope you all are well. Roger

RE: Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister
Ken, your post got me thinking about my tw. During my build I went straight to the 5/32 wire for my tw. It is mountend per plans with the nylon nosewheel bracket as well. I brazed a tiller bar to a collar that retains the tw wire and there are springs on the tillerbar ends that attach to a hard point on the tailpost. sort of a spring damper as my tw is free castoring with built in stops per se. There is a space in the nylon bracket where I may be able to add a small spring which, with some stops added, would give a shock absorbing effect. As built in the access panel on the bottom of the tail, I think I may do this while I wait for my graphics. If I get some time I will post a pic of this, before and after, if I do the mod, which based on what your experiencing I just may well do.

Well the bloody painting is done, finally. Where has all of my spare time gone lately? I dunno. Will meet with my mask-maker-graphics buddy in a couple of weeks(vacation time as of monday so no modeling until I get back). Made a little progress on this project as far as painting skills go so I am happy but still not satisfied. Temporarily assembled the jungie in its colors and its really comming together now. Look to maiden in August/Sept. Hope all is well with you guys. Roger
