RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
ORIGINAL: Nickolas Geia sou Matt, Thanks for the answer. Everything is ok with the OS, it was a bit difficult to start for the first time but after that, the engine starts relativelly easily with the stick. I ran it with Belray H1R 4% mix and APC 18x10 PN, after a 16OZ and 3 flights of 10 minutes I get 8050 rpm with the APC. I think this is ok. I am still at the factory settings, but have richened the High 1/8 of a turn. The only problem I face is that some times at start the engines rotates on the opposite. I kill it and start again. What is the reason for that really? Here is a video of the intitial start ups... [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6asjYvx7iI[/link] Regards, Nikos
not really sure of the reason why the engine sometimes starts backwards but if you will crack the throttle open a click or two it will consistantly start correctly.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
I dont have any problem at all hand starting my OS's on stock OS ignitions running unregulated 2S LiFe choke... two flips to pop, three flips to start w/ just a touch of throttle to keep it from starting backwards.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
adjust the needles to the baseline settings as found in your owners manual. then follow the tuning procedure also described in the manual and you will have a sweet running engine. a good running engine doesnt just happen ..... it must be tuned.

RE: New OS 33cc Gasser..any reports yet?
i start mine left handed from behind the wing and it starts right for me about every time. when my brother flipped it hard from the front it wants to start backwards.... he backed off on the energy of his flip and now it starts right for him as well.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
Yes...32 degrees. I moved it back 5 degrees. It hand started easily enough at 32 degrees but it was better, easier at 27 degrees with either the RCExl or stock OS CDI
I just adjusted my timing this evening.. it was also set for 32 degrees...reset to 28 degrees running the stock OS ignition. the engine now starts easily with no hint of trying to run backward. [:D] will flight test it tomorrow.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
the old V1 mufflers were breaking at the exhaust port connection... that piece was stamped. the new mufflers have a solid piece of metal at this connection and should be a lot stronger. Time will tell.

RE: Why Gassers are more addictive or better than Glows e?
i went from electric planes (48" size) straight to gas once i decided on the 25% size aircraft as ideal for my needs. small learning curve to tuning the engines but IMO not that complicated. no problems handling and starting the gas engines by myself as i just straddle the plane and reach over the wing with my left hand to flip the prop. easy peasy.

RE: OS GT33 v/s DLE30
My DLE ran really strong once i got the carb issues sorted out but it's sitting in the box right now and the OS is in the slick. the OS might be lacking just a bit on the top end as compared to the DLE swinging the same 20x6 prop but its a LOT quieter (could explain the difference) The OS snaps off idle like the DLE could only dream of doing. the mid range is equally awesome when hovering.... just pure sweetness in throttle response. I compare the OS engine to flying an electric plane.... it feels that connected to the throttle stick.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
As sweet as this engine runs and carburates i can forgive the occasional starting backwards.... i honestly think it has to do with all the compression... once you pull the prop thru it will bounce back off the next compression stroke and start backwards. Being left handed i can stand behind the wing and can get a really good stroke on the prop.... 95% of the time it starts correctly. When my brother starts it from the front 2 out of three times it will start backwards. i'm going to let him try the reverse flip tomorrow and see how that works.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
I am using this stuff and so far it takes the heat just fine.... even right at the cylinder head/exhaust connection. http://www.pocketrubber.com/ i dont have any way of doing an accurate before and after db test but i can say it does knock down the annoying high frequencys.... makes the exhaust sound deeper and IMO quieter. my brother noticed and asked if it was a different exhaust.
ORIGINAL: dubs1946 Great to hear Mark. ''Like the look of the engine. Have you seen Brian Winches article in Airborne about the silicon tape to tape the muffler with, Should deaden the noise of the hot exhaust gas hitting the thin muffler martial and causing a type of echo effect, the tape basically absorbs the blat noise of the exhaust. You can get the stuff (different name) from bunnings for about $10-14 as well as boat accessory places. Would be interesting if it would quieten the can noise down any more. Link below for rescue tape. http://www.rescuetapeaustralia.com.au/'' A club member tried this tape on a gas engine and it burnt through. Gas engines run hotter the Glow engines but i guess it depends where you apply it but its expensive to end up with burnt carbon. Dave.
RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
ORIGINAL: ghoffman Yep, Hobby Services sucks.  The last time I had an engine start in reverse was a 72 Yamaha.  This is 2011, there is no excuse for that and it is very dangerous.
not dangerous IMO.... if you open the throttle it will cut off..... then restart with the throttle cracked open a bit no worries.
ORIGINAL: selnekav Hi, Do you see any difference in terms of vibration level between the DLE 30 and GT33 ? Thanks
yes the OS engine is much smoother in operation.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
My OS Gt33 runs fantastic.... it has ldled and carburated perfectly from the first tank of fuel. You just have to remember to crack the throttle open a bit on startup or it may run backwards. the muffler does great at actually doing what a muffler is supposed to do..... its' at least as quiet as my DLE with cannister exhaust. i have not flown mine yet as i'm waiting for my 44.5mm standoffs to arrive so i can put the cowl on (the 5x44.5 standoffs will let the GT33 perfectly replace a DLE30 V2... same footprint, same length) from ground testing the GT33 is going to be THE engine for 3D.... it feels directly connected to the throttle stick just like an electric motor. The throttle response is THAT good. My engine runs just as good as the engine Joe is flying in that video. the engine also had a lot of compression even before the first run.... my DLE could easily be turned over by hand (and still can be) this OS engine just pops! using the exact same prop as i was using on my DLE (20/6 Xoar) i can tell the engine has way more power than the DLE... which is amazing to me considering the lightening fast throttle response. price is right in line with a DLE too... i got mine for 369 from tower w/ free shipping (super saver 50 bucks off coupon) but i had to buy the OS standoffs so that added another 31 bucks.... still for the way this thing is running i am completely happy with my purchase considering the quality of the piece, the nice muffler that actually works and the proprietary ignition that will let you run up to 7.4 lipos without the need for a regulator. I think OS nailed it on this one. I'll be sure and post a report once i actually get to fly it.
