RE: Spectrum Problems
it seems your more bent on trashing the manufacture than trying to solve the problem. its not the equipment its the operators

RE: Spectrum Problems
iv taken my half scale 70lb taylorcraft and have been able to duplicate many of the problems that many on rcu keep blaming the manufacture. but unlike the confused all my testing was performed with a properly set up fail safe so when the airplane went into lockout the the controls centered throttle went to low and i soon regained control

RE: Spectrum Problems
ORIGINAL: trexbob Instead of using bigger more powerful batteries all the time, is it possible to just put a capacitor in line with the power input as a buffer for the voltage drop under a short duration high power draw, similar to how they use large capacitors in high power car audio systems?  Seems like it would be a perfect cheap and easy solution, but I'm not an electrical engineer, so maybe someone else can comment on this?
when 2.4 first came on the market we were using capacitors as a backup device. but we quickly learned this wasn't necessary as long as you use a battery that is designed for your airplane . 99%of the problems are voltage related . too small of battery ,too small wire diameter to allow the electricity to flow, a low c battery ,and an improperly charged battery all contribute to lock out. KNUCKLEHEADS spend the money and buy the right battery's!!! and learn how to charge them!

RE: WACO YMF
hi iv got about 25 flights on mine , iv found that i had to lock the tail wheel for landings. i also have to land it like its full scale brother . after landing on the mains i have to feed in down to keep the tail in the tail up as long as possible. its very easy to ground loop that 400 sounds like the real deal . loops and rolls at about 1800 rpm

RE: Spektrum Operation
if your speed controller is adjustable change the cut off to a higher voltage , you could also try a capacitor on the receiver these are small and could help in a short term overload on the battery

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=8938000

RE: Spektrum Operation
that problem is common with electric planes . you could also change the speed controller , yours is probably allowing the motor to over draw the system eventual this will lead to a lock out

RE: Spektrum Operation
use a separate battery for your receiver, your creating a low voltage situation. this will solve your problem. if you have to rebind it after flying , dont keep doing this you will end up loosing your plane

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
ORIGINAL: D4379 It started with a call to the hobby shop. They said sorry not our problem call Horizon. Horizon said it was defective send it in and here is the address. I said what about shipping? They said I should pay it, I said no. Horizon emailed a shipping label. Gave it two weeks and called. Was notified of the 20 day minimum and there was nothing they would do about that. I said it was brand new and that does not seem fair. They said well tough that is the way it is. At the end of four weeks I called again still no joy. Five weeks into it I get an email stating they are shipping a new receiver and that was about it.
it sounds like they gave you some satisfaction you got free shipping, maybe if you didnt start off like an a s s you would have gotten better all around service

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
iv been dealing with horizon for over a decade, service as always been outstanding. it one of the main reasons i use jr equipment. i can see why some of you have problems. the way you chat on this thread is a good indication why you have trouble with service. immature, unrealistic expectations, and a lack of common sense seems to be the common thread

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
i dont see it as preferential at all, its just common sense on there part, why should a 12x be 20 days behind receivers and servos and a dx 7 if my system depended on a dx7 i would have bought a back up instead of complaining

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
ORIGINAL: D4379 Get over it? Fortunately I had other systems to use. There are a lot of people in this hobby that don't have that option or they don't have the cash to get another one. I noticed that I am not the only one with these problems. One guy posted that his $1,200 system was screwed up but he got it back in two weeks because he paid big bucks for it. He also hinted that if you are willing to pay for your warranty service you might get it back sooner. This is indicative of major problems with Horizon Hobby from a customer service view point. Also ths shop where I bought the reciever indicated to me yesterday they cannot get new radios, parts or recievers from Horizon, something is up. I had not flown an RC plane other than an electric jet in eight years. I wanted to get started again. I paid good money for this receiver and was disappointed by the whole system. The hobby shop that would not or could not honor a warranty, Horizon just telling people oh well to bad and then the five weeks. This is not the hobby industry of eight years ago. On the bright side I bought a new transmitter battery and receiver battery from Tower for my trusty old 1980's vintage 7FG. Delivered in three days and I flew my ancient but good Great Planes Decatholon with a Magnum 46 for the first time in eight years. All went well and I was soon looping and rolling to my hearts content. The moral of the story is stick with Futaba a quality company not some overextended marketing firm for China Inc.
that was me and it was two days and it didnt cost me a dime, knowing who to talk to is all it takes

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
ORIGINAL: D4379 After five weeks the reciever came back today. The invoice says in the interest of customer service reviever replaced with a new one. That is it nothing else. They could have done that 4.5 weeks ago. I am dissapointed in Horizon Hobby and I can see a lot of other folks are to. They can kill themselves and go the way of Royal, Orbit, Kraft and others or they can get their act straight. Small community to get upset, word gets out fast.
its just a receiver , get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep you had better be paying close attention , changes are in the works miss norton and several other congressman are pushing the faa into banning the use of turbins period, and also hamstring the rest of us with altitude airspead limits and weight limits . the ama is in negotiations but where it ends up is anyone's guess.

RE: My thoughts on the Spektrum incidents...
jr heavy duty switches are the best on the market even the diehard futaba guys use them, heres a test you should preform at least once a season, check your voltage with a one amp load at the charge port then unplug your switch at the receiver and test it there if you have a drop in volage more than about 1% this is anindication that your switch is wearing out or corosion has taken hold . remember the switch dosnt have to fail to cause a hold just the slightest interruption in voltage can ruin your day

if you nead that much amperage you are not going to get it by adding more leads on a 123 it just dosnt work that way

two leads is just stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you want redundancy use two battery packs and not 123s use lions or lipos 123s wont discharge quick enough under certain circumstances no mater how many leads you put on them

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
horizon is like any other service dept, you got to know who is in charge and go directly to them , my 12x lost display on wednesday got it back sat same week, you have to be reasonable about priority i dont expect this kind of service with a receiver or servos but paying 1400 for a 12x should have a little priority built in to the cost of the product. horizon is working on a program to get anything worked on immediately but you will pay for this express service doesn't matter if your under warranty or not

RE: Spectrum recievers and brown out
ORIGINAL: qldviking A single battery input will not reliably deliver the amps going straight into the rx, my batteries have dual output leads, both going to reg, and 2 outputs from there going to rx, I get at least 10 amps of usable power that way. more than I needed for the katana.
run two bateries instead of two leads i told you this before it will help with your problems

RE: My thoughts on the Spektrum incidents...
last sunday i saw a plane go straight in for no apparent reason. several people commented it was the 12x with a speck receiver an hour later when we got the plane back it was missing the elevator, it seems that most people are quick to blame spek/jr for every crash but at least the pilot builder reserved his judgment till after the post mortem

another thing to watch for is if you loose bind or you think you loose bind , check your remotes to see if any are blinking if one is replace it. they are only 29 dollars use the max your receiver will take

there was no reason to recall the orig receivers they were the technology of the day . everyone was aware of the reboot issue . spek/ jr keep improving there system . the three second reboot is not a defect just old technology
