RE: ESC Options - Jeti?
To be completely transparent, I did have issues with a brake setting above 40% with the Himax 210 and the CC 80 Ice II, but 40% brake seems to work pretty well for me.

RE: ESC Options - Jeti?
Joe, That is exactly what I was running in the Rev Pro at Muncie (Himax 210 and CC HV 80), and it is an excellent combination especially if price is an important consideration. Ray

RE: D-4 NATS Tune-up
The data for my scoring program is in Excel spreadsheet in a database format, so it would be no problem at all to have the data available as HTML immediately after it is entered and verified (even during a contest if there is internet access). If there is a consistent format for providing the data so it could be easily posted to a web page, then that would be the best solution. See how the results are displayed on the IMAC site as an example. Ray

RE: D-4 NATS Tune-up
If anyone would like their raw scores, please PM me and I can send them to you. On the IMAC side, all contestant maneuver scores as well as the round scores are usually quickly posted to the web. Is this something that the NSRCA or District members would like? I believe it could be relatively easy to develop a common format so the data could be sent to the District VP immediately following the contest where it is verified and quickly posted to the web. Thanks, Ray

RE: Castle Ice HV 80 II
Everette, I pulled the motor this morning and carefully inspected it and do not see any irregularities. Bob mentioned he would loan me a 110 speed controller to check the motor so I may do that first. I will call Castle tomorrow. It is amazing how that burned smell permeates everything. It was interesting that the failure occured very early into the flight and in level flight (inverted) steady at about half throttle. I completed the clover, hammerhead and was just about to start rolling in the 3 of 4 reversed roll when the failure occured. Thanks, Ray

RE: Castle Ice HV 80 II
No, the motor turns very freely, there does not appear to be any damage or loose magnets (Himax 210 HV). I will send the motor in to be inspected anyway just in case there was any damage or malfunction. The only change from the previous flight was the speed controller, but that does not necessarily rule out a coincidence. Thanks, Ray

Castle Ice HV 80 II
Just my luck - today was the first really nice day to fly, and I took my old reliablle Rev Pro out with the new replacement speed controller and it burned up within 1 minute of the first flight. The first ICE HV 80 which was flawless was returned as part of the recall. Hopefully it will not take too long to get this one replaced as the weather is definitely improving. From a safety perspective, it was quite fortunate that the controller was mounted in the pipe tunnel below the radio and battery, because much more damage may have occured if it was mounted inside the fuselage as most current electric planes are designed. I was also fortunate that the controller melted the wires, as Bob said "like a fuse", before the LIPO battery was damaged due to a short. I hope my motor wasn't damaged in the event, it sounded horrible when the controller went - like the break went on at half throttle. Ray

RE: My New Futaba 18 MZ
Steve, That is what ACT advertises, I guess that someone needs to break out an o-scope. 3 data transmission modes: High speed data transmission, 20ms at 16 channels, (normal transmitters 12 channels with 24ms) High speed data transmission, 10 channels with 14ms Super high speed data transmission with 5 channels at 8ms. Double as fast as HRS Ray

RE: D-4 Championships
Mark, When you talk about the current FAI catalog, is that the FAI Sporting Code for 2011 (easily available) or the proposed one for January 2013? If we were to fly an unknown, my vote would be an impartial IMAC pilot (because of their experience with unknown sequences) use some Aresti software like OLAN to create a nice sequence with similar k-factors to P-13 using maneuvers from the 2011 Sporting Code. That would not only allow everyone (pilots and judges) to have the same printed Aresti sequence and scoresheets, but would help with computer scoring as the maneuvers and k-factors could be preset in a spreadsheet. Mark, Thank you, did not know about the List (what is it?). It looks like 6 rounds of P-13 with a chance of an interesting unknown. Thanks, Ray

RE: D-4 Championships
Has a final decision been made yet on the sequences? Should I practice F this weekend? It would be interesting to watch (and judge) and will spread out the FAI group, but it may exclude some pilots too. I have only flown the proposed F-13 sequence twice, so for me it is still very much a work in progress. Thanks, Ray

RE: D-4 Championships
With the vote split, probably the best decision is to have 6 rounds of P-13. This is a new sequence, so spending a few weeks perfecting it is not unreasonable. On the trip last night to pick up a new plane, Bob Pannell (the other co-CD) mentioned that once they flew one round of an unknown pattern which he said was pretty fun. He would design the sequence with the same K-factor total as the P-13 sequence and keep it top secret until the contest, kind of like IMAC. For scoring, you would keep the best 3 of 5 plus the unknown. Just throwing that out there for comment as he mentioned it. Thanks, Ray

RE: St Clairsville Wrap Up
That was my first time to this field, and it was a very nice location, great company, excellent food, and pretty good weather considering a hurricane was not too far away. I was concerned at first about flying a new sequence and not looking very polished. Of course it was a bit disconcerting when I finished one flight and both judges asked me exactly how that half square loop on corner with 1/8 loop, 1/4 roll to knife edge, 1/4 knife edge loop, 1/4 roll followed by 1/8 loop to inverted was supposed to look. I had to carefully explain each of the elements of the maneuver a couple times. I think this new sequence was as difficult for the judges as the pilots! Thanks to all that made this an excellent weekend for all the pilots and families.[:)]

RE: D-4 Championships
I have looked at the PPT that Arch sent for F-13, and it is different than the Aresti I posted, but is the same as the PACSS which is useful because there are K-Factors associated with the maneuvers. I found a link to the Powerpoint version, just invert the plane on the top of the Cloud Dance maneuver and otherwise it looks pretty good. www.mmfk.info/flyprogrammer/F13engl.ppt Ray

RE: D-4 Championships
Chris, There are a couple errors on this slide, one is you cannot enter the maneuver upright and do a half loop and still be upright. The second is from upright entry after 2-1/2 spins followed by 2 of 4, would make it an inverted exit rather than upright as drawn. I believe it is supposed to be drawn as an upright entry, half loop to inverted, 2-1/2 spins followed by 2 of 4 point roll (in the same direction) then upright exit. That would make the two end box maneuver descriptions on either side also work. Thanks, Ray
