RE: Fokker DRI Build Along
My used Dr.1 has a negative built into the top wing. I was concerned about this when someone pointed it out to me but you know what.....she handles beautifully at cruise and WOT. It is not a BUSA but samo-samo IMO. I am leaving the neg into it. Rick

RE: Fokker DRI Build Along
Oberst, you made my day. I was questioning my flying skills but maybe...just maybe it has something to do with the scale model. I figured mine would be a low wind, wind straight down the runway plane. At least I got that part right. If I can only get 3 days flying per year out of this one it will be on the auction block. My planes are to fly fly fly, not collect dust. Nice maiden. Can we get some more excitement when you land next time? LOL Ron, I am about 2 weeks out for my next attempt. Get that engine in and dialed in... Rick

RE: Fokker DRI Build Along
Wouldn't bungee gear tend to make them bounce? I only have 3 flights on mine but was impressed how it hit and stuck to the ground. We won't talk about what happened next. LOL Here is a video of my maiden. Sorry, not a BUSA Dr.1. I was so nervous, never been like that,,,EVER. Try holding 1/8" up stick when shaking. Very hard to do. Fixed it on second flight. Anyhow, here it is. Rick

Ron, if you want to try an A123 pack out let me know. I have scores of them and they last YEARS. They are also LSD, Low Self Discharge, so you charge them, let them sit a few months and you can only squeeze <200mah back into them. Most of my RX pack planes only burn <500mah on 6 flights. Rick

RE: Fokker DRI Build Along
Well, I really don't want to find out,,,if you know what I mean. [X(] I can still remove more weight up front by way of battery size. I will search for CG and play with it some. I also don't like how the wing is held on in the middle. The cabines? were just screwed into wood with allen head 8/32 screws. Aaarrrrgggg. I replaced them with 10/24 as the wood threads were stripped out...You think...? Eventually I plan to epoxy the screws in place but not screw them in all of the way and cut off the heads. I can then leave them in and put some nuts on instead. I really don't want to remove/replace the covering to access these and make it stronger. Rick

Hey, figured it out. Notice the top wing. The two batteries look like fangs, eh? Rick

RE: Fokker DRI Build Along
Ron, after 7 years you finally got me to join this forum. I am sure my nights will go WAY into the wee mornings ours now. LOL My wife offered to buy me a new plane for my birthday. WOW. I was looking at a a Nitro Planes T-28 1400mm foamy but I figured it would be very common at our club by years end. I kept looking around wanting to replace my crashed BH T-28 Trojan and happend across a DR1 via Craigs List. I had NO IDEA of the scale of this beauty; lucky me! I put a Hacker A60-22 217kv up front and eventually throwing a 22*6 prop on 8S2P 8000 mah batteries. She is a beauty in the air BUT I had no idea scale meant almost impossible to not nose over taking off AND landing. I will learn to respect the bird or sell it to someone that can, she is too pretty to tear up. Per Rons advise, I am probably going to be moving the wheels forward about 3 inches and maybe 5-6 inches wider and Ron suggested I lower it too. This is a real bear to take off and land and $25 props will definately limit my number of flights. LOL I have a question. The top wing on my Dr.1 (Nick Ziroli, we think) has a negative incidence. I read today (at work - shhh) that this can be done to not climb under power, it doesn't, but is this "normal" or should I set it at least at zero? Anyone know? I attached a pic that sorta shows the incidence. Would a zero incidence help me from nosing over some? Being this is my first post I am struggling to load a pic.
