RE: XYZ ENGINES
ORIGINAL: MrEdge JRAllen, I had my XYZ26cc on the Phoenix models extra 330...That plane weighed about 9 lbs. I was still in the break in period before I sold it but on a 9 lb plane it had no vertical. I fly somewhere around the 5000ft above sea level mark. IT would prolly pull your Giles around but I would say there would be no vertical pull on a straight up line. I would seriously consider getting the 50cc instead. It has quite a bit more power but not so much that you are going to rip the firewall off. If you read back thru this thread, you will see the talk about the 50cc going on the Extreme Flight Yak. THat plane is roughly about the size of the CMP Giles you have. I would still reinforce the firewall of the CMP giles regardless of what engine you get... Hope this helps
I have a phoenix extra 330s. I was thinking of a xyz 26. You say there was no vertical at all? My Saito 100 eats it alive in vertical with a 15x8 Master air screw. A 26cc should be roughly the same? Guess I will have to reevaluate. I live at about 840ft. Thanks Mike

RE: 4* 120 engine?
Thanks guys. I believe I will go with a 26cc gas just for grins and giggles. Looking at a xyz or Zenoa for starters. Any thoughts? I have nothing as far as equipment for a Gasser. What will it take to be ready to fly as in tank, batt. etc.? If this works out like I think it will I will probably go all gas except for the 40 series planes. Mike

What size gas engine would work for the four star 120? Is that a good choice? I can buy one for about the same price as a good 4 stroke I think? Mike

I just got a Sig 4 * 120 curious as to what engine would be the best for it? 2 stroke , 4stroke , gas? I have a Saito 100 that runs good would that be enough power? Thanks Mike

RE: Hots 40 Profile build
ORIGINAL: GuyP Hi Mike Its certainly a weak spot on the fuse. I will look at ways of strengthening on the next one, thats if there is a next one, Ive not flown this one yet! This ones been re-covered and Ive just not had the workshop time to get the rest one. I hope to get her done and up in the air by this sunday with some pictures and vid if I can. Cheers Guy Hope you had a good xmass. I think most profiles are weak in that spot. It looks like you are well on the way to beefing that spot up. I am not so inclined to do that type of work. I just glue it back together and repair the covering in that spot. All I want to do is fly am not interested in pretty ,taxiing or anything. just fly and thats why most of my planes are over powered[8D] is to get off the ground and fly.Keep on keepen on[:D] Mike
Sorry to hear about your dead stick. I had the same thing happen to my hots this fall. Broke same place. They will not fly dead stick at slow speeds I learned that. but it is a good flying plane with the OS 46fx. Nice job of building. Mine is repaired and waiting for the right day to go again.
ORIGINAL: AFSalmon The OS 70 4S should be plenty of power for the 40 size profiles. I've never run that engine but I would assume it would require 20% nitro to be any good.
Why 20%? Are they that pouchy? Better to use OS FXI 46? What size prop for both? Not going to do 3d.
ORIGINAL: daveopam The 52" Fusion only has two servos in the tail. One for rudder one for elev. Did I missread your question or are you talking about a different plane? David
Good day Well I guess I kind of wondered about that. The instructions and the pics are pretty sparse and every pic I saw looked like there was two on each side of the tail. There is no instructions that tell how many. And there are spots on both side of the fuse for them. But you sure made it a lot easier to put together. Thank you Mike

RE: Using The AstroFlight "Blinky" To Balance Packs, Common Sense Lipos, etc.
Good day I have packs with Lightflite on them as the name. they are 2 cell 7.4 v 460mah. they have gotten to where they do not last very long on my lightflite bug and one only about 45secs good power then will fly good at a reduced power. I have a U poly smart charge 2020 and was wondering if I get a Blinky what adaptors I would need for the charger and packs. The packs have a balance port and the charger has a jst plug. Is this the way unbalanced packs act? I have about 50 flights on each one and they are only 6 or 7 months old. But thats just me Mike

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Good day I bought a Saito 100 last fall and put it on a new 4*60. From the first start up it ratteled loudly. So bad that we brought it down on the maiden flite to see what all the racket was about. I have flown it a dozen or so times and it is getting worse. Going to take it off and send it back to Saito. A new engine that cost this much should not do this and now I have to spend more money to send it in. Still it runs good with a lot of power. Sorry but it happened. So far not pleased. RE: Sig Four-Star 60 as second plane?
Good day I have two 4*60s and they are great planes. My first was a ARF and it has a Saito 100 on it and is terrific. can go vertical unlimited. and lots of good usable power for everything else. The other was a kit I bought already done on which I put a Tower Hobbys 75. This is a great engine for a great plane. Both work great and the 75 gives it unlimited vert. also only cheaper to run than the Saito. This plane has a bay on each wing removed and is a lot more fun to fly than stock and no tendency to bounce unless I dumb thumb it. The removed bay makes it more responsive to rolls and does not seem to hurt the other axis.[8D] But thats just me Mike Fun facter [:)][:)][:D][:D]

RE: Are you impessed with your Tower engines?
Good day I posted on this site about the th75 before I bought one this winter and I will have to say I heard a lot of bad things. They almost talked me out of it which would have been a big mistake. I bought one and have not regretted it as it runs extremly hard, starts good, idles well, and transitions great. nough said. I am going to go against the nay sayers and roll the dice again buy a TH46 and if they are right they can say I told you so. Can't follow forever!! And yes I own a OS 46fxi and it is a great motor with the same attributes of the th 75. Also an expensive Saito 100 that runs as well as the other two but it seems the exhaust manifold pipe breaks off a lot. cure buy a lot of spare pipes, not just mine does this either. No wrecks or hard landings and only 8 or 10 flights on fourstar 60. I am odering several pipes as other members at the club have the same problem. But thats just me Mike
