RE: Shulman Aviation Turbinator ARF
Are the manual setting for flaps a good starting point at 1" takeoff and 2.5" for landing? Also how much down elevator mix is needed for each of those settings? Getting ready to maiden mine very soon. Thanks in advance.

RE: Build Thread: Redwing 30cc MX2
After looking at both photos of the motor box it appears to me the throttle servo is further inboard on the skyliner rc version vs the goldwing, so I am hopeful your measurements confirm this.

Thanks for that, but I think the new redwing mx2 that Mach has is a different firewall dimension just wanted to confirm that.

Have you determined if rear mount carb dle30 will work With no mods to firewall? I am interested in this version too if so.

RE: Lipo Fire in Garage
Here is an exert from a post on runryder about the corrosive nature of the smoke. I always felt I could keep a fire at bay but the smoke issue was a driver to put them out of the main house. GMPheli Elite Veteran W. Bridgewater, MA USA The best thing to store them in is a either a ceramic or metal container with a vent to the outside. The fumes that come off burning lipos are very caustic. If you just store them in say an ammo container, and they do burn. The room that they are stored in will get covered in the smoke which can causes a lot of corrosion. This is from a post from Peter Wales: I had a lipo fire in my shop a few years ago, The LiPo was in the middle of a bench by itself and burnt the bench pretty bad, but that was all that got burnt. The smoke left a carbonish deposit over all of the walls and all the paint needed sealing and repainting. Every piece of steel in the room went rusty, including my mill, lathe and pillar drill. All my tools went rusty as did every bolt head and nut on all my helis. The smoke settled and left a fine dust everywhere. The AC unit sensed the temperature in the room had increased so it turned on and sucked all the smoke and fine particles into the duct system depositing them in the next rooms. The particles were too small for the filters to catch them. The other rooms needed painting. All the cloth needed replacing as the fine dust had a high carbon content so when you touched it, it left a black streak. My wifes dresses in the closets and all of her hundreds of pairs of shoes needed replacing as they couldn't be cleaned. You can contain the fire damage with LiPo sacks and other things, but the smoke will do a lot of damage and if you charge them up in your garage, just have a look and see how much steel is in there which will need cleaning or replacing.

RE: Lipo Fire in Garage
ORIGINAL: flyinfool1 I saw it asked twice in this thread but not answered. Was there a working smoke detector? In all of the cases of someone finding the fire after the fact not once is a smoke detector alarm mentioned. Is there something about a Lipo fire that is not detected by smoke detectors. ANY battery chemistry that is in common use for RC can explode and/or burn. This whole lipo safety debate sounds exactly like the motorcycle helmet debate, ''I Have never suffered a brain injury there for I don't need a helmet'' No we do not need to have bunkers built for charging and wear hazmat suits to monitor, but we do need to use at least a little bit of sense.
With a smoke detector, yes you'll be notified of the smoke, but the corrosive nature of it can potentially ruin everything in the garage even if you do get the fire extinguished.

RE: Lipo Fire in Garage
Thanks for bring to my attention once again the potential dangers of using LiPo batteries. I have been using, storing, and charging them for years in my garage without any incident. But I don't like to take unnecessary risks with 2 young ones in our household. I have been thinking for awhile I'd like to move my storage and charging offsite. This thread got me rethinking again. I have a small shed for storing my mowers in that sits a nice distance from the house should something happen. Problem is the shed gets quite hot during the summer months. So I jumped on craigslist yesterday and bought a cheap $30 mini fridge and brought it home and installed it in my shed. I have the temp regulated now at 50 degrees F for the batteries and worse case scenario it burns my shed down. Much better scenario than the house. Also I can charge the batteries outdoors from there as well. Thanks you for getting me motivated to actually do something I had been wanting to do for a long while.

Jet Storage Garage Solutions
I decided to use one of those ceiling mounted pulley systems made for hoisting bicycles to garage ceiling for storage to store my Boomerang Jet. Question is would it be okay to use the wing tube as a lifting point to strap around to hoist it up. This would be the best place to lift since its not a normal narrow fuselage type plane. I know the carbon tube is strong, but wasn't sure about leaving it hang from the point for any length of time. I have seen others with 40% planes hoisting them up via the tube. David

For those running stock fixed gear are you replacing the front with a longer length to get the wing at lest level? Mine too low without a longer front wire strut. Gonna have to make one abit longer to get the nose up I guess. Thanks David

RE: Boomerang Nano!!!
Thanks for the validation on the servo's, I am planning on running either a A123 or Lipo for receiver power without regulator and going with the DS821HV versions and using Hitech HS-5685MH on the elevator and flap. The 5685 has plently of torque, not sure about resolution.

RE: Boomerang Nano!!!
Question on servos, are the JR DS821 suitable all the way around or should I put some higher torque servos on elevator and flap? What about nose gear steering do I need a metal gear on that one? I plane on keeping it fixed gear for at least awhile. Thanks, David
