RE: Lado retracts in a TF P-40 ARF
Wow, duh! I totaly forgot that I had to do that. It's been a year sice I built it. I'm sure I can still do the mods anyway. Thanks again for all your help!

RE: Sig Ryan STA
I hate that! I have done the same thing so many times planning and putting it all together and then blow it all by missing one little detail. Sorry Vincent, you were making such good progress.

RE: P-51 MUSTANG PHOTOS ONLY
Hey can you move that Mustang over alittle bit so I can see that Focke Wulf please Beautiful pics, it's such a work of art that it's hard to believe it was meant for killing people. Kind of like a rattlesnake. Here are some from WW2 weekend 2012 in Reading,Pa

RE: Military colors only at warbird meets?
Well to start off with I'll say this; that the committee for the event should have announced to the club what the intentions of the event were and what the rules would be long before the flyer was distributed. Then there would be no surprises and disappointments to the club members. I would agree with Chad and others that if an aircraft was designed for the military first and then saw civilian use afterwards then it should be allowed regardless of color scheme, and if they were civilian first then became military; Cubs, DC-3, Ryan, etc. then they should be painted in their military scheme. I would ask, what is the purpose of the event? Is it to promote a certain type of aircraft and time period, or to promote one individuals likes in aircraft over another? On a personal note I think events in general have just gotten too exclusive these days by excluding flyers from participating in any event at all because of type and size of aircraft. Try to find a warbird event that’s not a giant scale only event, or a pre 1940 event, or a funfly that excludes park flyers or helicopters. Whatever happened to a good old fun fly period? I mostly fly warbirds, it’s what I like and most are in the 60 size range so I basically get closed out of most events because of size. Our club held a free funfly this year and invited other local clubs in the area to come and fly with us and have a free meal and just enjoy some flying and have a good time. The intention was to promote the hobby and meet new people and share interests. Members from one club went back to their club and organized a like event and we went and also had a good time. I did not vote because the poll was too narrow for me.

RE: School Me on Fixing My DLE 20 With a Bent Crank
I've done it and it's quite easy. Once you pull the jug off and remove the piston, you will put the hub in a vise with something to protect it from the jaws. Heat it with a heat gun and with the nut on the end and a block of wood tap the end of the end of the crank and the hub will pop off. watch where the key goes. I put a towel on the floor so it won't bounce of the floor and go where all my other hardware is hiding. Install is reverse if you heat up the hub it will slip back on. About 45 min from start to finish. Pay attention to the position of the piston and ring before you remove it, put an arrow on the top of the piston with a sharpie pointing to the exhaust opening before pulling it. Bearings come out just as easy with a little heat on the crank case and a dowel big enough to contact the outer edges of the race if you need to replace them. Don't forget to wear some gloves so you won't burn your hand on the hot parts.

I have the Robo struts on mine made for the GP Ryan. I'm not sure if these woudn't be a little big for this plane since the GP has an 80" WS. The springs are way too stiff in them and I am going to change them out when I find some.

Here's the link for the museum. Go to the event tab and you can pull up the flyer for the rc event. This is a cool place, and is about 45 min west of Allentown,Pa off I-78 They built a Folker triplane and a Pup in the last couple of years. http://www.goldenageair.org/index.htm

Sad to think this could be my collection someday, and my wife will sell them all for what I told her I paid for them. I better crash them all now while I have the chance This is fun. I think 9 is a BIrd of time by Dynaflite?

RE: Servo flutter
Technically it's not flutter, flutter happens while the plane is in flight. Just being a wise guy. But I have has the same problem and traced it to a bad y. You could do as suggested an hook it up to seperate channels but you will have to label them left and right or you will be backwards if you plug them in wrong.

RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome on the 8th
Yep, I was too. But ..it happens and I spent time working on the shop and cleaning up an throwing out junk. I love throwing out junk They call me the chucker at home, if I have to move it more than 3 times in a year I chuck it. I made a new area for setting up my drill press and scroll say and my new 4" Dremmel table saw. I have a new in box Dynaflite Pt-19 to build and a P-47 to finish this winter. Mustang51 are you going to go to the event at the Golden Age air museum in Bethel? A real nice event and almost as good as Rhinebeck. 9/29-9/30

I suggest you check out this site http://prme.nl/forum/viewforum.php?f=18&sid=736216affd61dec6c7bfed2dc01f99d1 Pe is very knowledgable in this area and helped me out alot. Just cutting a bigger outlet is not always the solution and and can actually make it worse, besides ruinning the looks of a good cowl. Baffeling is the way to go, just think about your weedwacker, they are baffled to provide max cooling. Good luck.

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Here is some good information regarding cooling http://www.prme.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=205 It's not always about how big the exit area is but how much your directing the air over the cylinder. Still waiting on the retracts He emailed me last week and said soon. Said that the week before too, but the good thing is I only have $1 invested to pre order.

RE: Slow transition on DLE20
Go easy on the adjustments, a 1/16 of a turn is all it takes sometimes. These carbs are very sensitive. Check your linkage set up also for correct geometry. Good luck.

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
I have used the testors paints in spray cans on my GWS P-38 without any issues. They are made of polystyrene foam. Try it on some scrap if you have any. Check the solvent on the can, if it's tolulene watch out! I use a piece of builders foam to test on. I have heard that at Sentry hardware stores they can mix latex and put it in a spray can. A guy in our club had it done. You can also get an airbrush and spray latex yourself.

RE: Someone mentioned warped wing
ORIGINAL: vasek You forgot one important observation> farting during the gluing process will result in a less than perfect joint, as the byproduct i.e. gas will affect the chemical/ mechanical bond that may or may not result in a crash causing bodily harm to others. So be careful. [8|]
Too freaking funny Wood glue warping; really? Whats next?

RE: TOWER HOBBIES SUCKS
And they should pay for damaged goods why? If ups damaged it then ups is responsible but try to get ups to pay. So if you are a Tower club member and you get free shipping on orders over $150 then you paid no shipping to begin with, I would not expect them to pay for it going back. They will ship you a new one, free of course. If I get a package from anyone and it looks like it was beat up then I take a picture and then also of the packaging. I think Tower does as good of job at customer service as anyone and I don't think you should be slaming them in a forum without trying to resolve the issue first with them. Oh and for those who won't buy from them; where do you think 90% of the products you buy or use come from? No matter where you buy from they are the distributer or exclusive supplier of the products. I don't know of anyone I deal withthat pays return shipping for defective or damaged items.I once sent them an engine I bought new off ebay and it had a problem so I sent it in for service and they sent me a new one! No questions asked. Now thats real customer service!

Well, I just have to ask. How was it? My son was up at Odessa for WW2 reenactment event and he said it poured on Sat. I have wet German uniforms and equipment hanging all over the house and deck. Looks like an encampment. I sure hope everything was successful, it sure was very windy and stormy here in eastern Pa. Here is my son at an earlier event .

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Warbirdracer, I am using the jtec compact pitts, cost $80, gripes me to pay that much but it works well and all you need to cut out is just enough to get the pipes out. Proper cooling is needed with any engine and you still want enough of an opening to allow exit air. I had a little issue with over heating but solved it by creating a duct work from the front cowl openings right into the engine and now its just perfect. I highly reccomend reading the gas engines for newbies sticky at the begining of the gas engine forum, if this is your first gaser. Most of the tuning issues many are having is they are trying to use what they leanred about tuning glow engines and treating their gas engines the same.Sometimes all it takes is just a 1/16 of a turn to make all the difference in the world with a gasser. I love the fact I have almost no cleanup when I'm done flying. I'm packed up and ready to leave and the nitro guys are still cleaning their planes

Well, sorry guys the weather just looks to iffy for me. I'm 3 hrs and $70 of gas away and money is tight these days. I've been before and there's no doubt it's a first class event. Maybe next year, any body thinking of going to this event? http://www.goldenageair.org/RC%20model%20meet%202012.pdf A real nice event and no trees anywhere. This is only 1/2 hr away from me. RE: Sig Ryan STA
Thanks Patrick and Vincent. It's just an Arf, but I 'm trying to dress it up a little bit. I picked it up at a swap meet last year for $150 and last Nov I tipped a wing on landing and snapped it in half. I just repaired it this summer and covered it in Solartex. I want to recover the tail and add the flying wires. Vincent, where is Peterboro in relation to Nashua? I have family there and in Plymouth. This is just such a cool plane, it just oozes golden age aviation, with those big wheel pants and wires.
