RE: Hobby King Delivers quickly again
I have spent over $2000 dollars with hobbyking, no major issues yet. Dont know why folk bitch about hobbyking, maybe not got the brains to understand it takes time for something to come from china and clear customs, not to order something backorder (I have done this once, lesson learned) and incredibly stupid to order a piece of foam from the other side of the world and expect it to arrive in one piece after being kicked about by the world postage services for three weeks.

20 cc profile 15kg digitals = 150 to 200 mah per ten min flight 26cc 1/4 scale pitts 15kg digitals = 150 to 200 mah per ten minute flight 30cc 26% yak 15 kg digitals = 150 to 200 mah per ten minute flight All on genuine a123 2300mah homebuilt packs, pretty consistent power consumption, if after a days flying I found I had to put far more or less into one of these packs I would investigate as it is probably a warning that something is amiss.

RE: A123 Question
Love life batterys, can have a model lying about for six months untouched then decide to fly it that day, simply put it on fast charge, go pack the car, see the battery is fully charged after a couple of minutes and has only lost 20-30 mah in six months, go fly.

RE: LHS Rant!
Dont know what the fuss is all about, there will always be builders. ARF,S are great I have a few, some of the latest lightest arf,s are the best flyers out there, nice and modern designs that are light with huge surfaces for the latest flying manouvres. BUT if you are like me flying is only part of the hobby, creating something from nothing will always be something I enjoy, I will always have something on the table. But I am starting to look at scratch build now as most of the kits about are old school, weight to much and are not designed for modern flying techniques and power. I know the kit market is small though so im not going to wait for someone else to produce a kit for me that does what I want and im not going to moan about it, the internet is huge and allows for the ordering of supplies and gives the information required to build any thing you can dream up. Stop moaning about what you cant buy in a shop like a arf guy and start producing something unique.

Got the hobbyking orange yak, weight is 10 pounds 8 oz dry, lighter than my pilot yak was but also very slightly smaller at 71 inch span, flys lighter. Fly it with the hobbyking 3d 19 8 prop, hover 1/4 throttle with dle 30 v2. lovely.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
I bought a ibec for one of my planes, nice product and works well but I wont buy another, why, because simply I have another three gassers running a single homemade life pack for ignition and rx with no stepdown for rx and I have had zero issues. I am on 2.4 ghz.. I understand the ignition does not require any more than 4.8v, that I will not get a better spark, my ignition will fail prematurely bla bla bla. If worried about the 6.6 volts then as someone has said fit a diode, been there done that too, works well for a 0.7 volt drop, but I dont even bother doing that now.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5612600/anchors_5612600/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#5612600 Look similar, should do its the same plane I would say. I have the orange 1800mm hobbyking yak and although some say it is not the peak models yak they are only partially right, the hobbyking yak I bought seems to be the version 3 yak that peak models was selling late 2009, as a matter of fact after a bit research I would say it is one hundred % the old 70" wingspan peak models design. It is well built and will fly well, hardware is useable and the plane is sitting ready to maiden with dle 30 at 10 pounds 8 oz dry, not bad. The only thing I would say against is that if you can get the peak model new design for a few quid more then why buy the hobbyking model? If you are saving a $100 bucks then hey its a bargin.

RE: Pilot RC Yak 54 26% with DLE-30 installation question
I had the pilot yak 26%, I got it second hand and it was a couple of years old, it had the firewall set so it would take a side carb dle 30 BUT it had a rear carb dle 30 fitted. 30 mm stand offs and a bit drilling through the firewall makes this posssible. I do believe the newer pilot yak models have now been updated to take a rear carb dle, maybe somone else could confirm this.

If you are going to run a 15 6 prop then you will miss all the fun you can have with this engine, it will rev its t*ts off and give poor performance, 17 6 and it will drag that plane about like you would not believe.

RE: Walbro or Tillotson Carb
Sometimes the best carb for your engine is not the one supplied by the manufacturer, sometimes there is nothing wrong with the carb or make, but simply the venturi size does not suit the engines design. I have swapped "bad carbs" onto another brand engine and ended up with a great running engine and more rpm than what was supplied by the manufacturer. I find its worth experimenting with diferent carb/engine set ups as the carb can make a huge difference to power output and how a motor runs.

RE: The all inclusive Chinese engines thread
Two RCG 20s from hobby king, no major issues. One DLE 20 from bay (new) no major issues. One second hand CRRC 26 v1, must have been 3 years old before I got it. Had issues in that the fool who had it before me had fitted a mk2 prop adaptor to a mk1 prop hub, these components should be replaced as a pair otherwise you get a out of centre prop. Also the original ignition supplied with the version 1 had to weak a spark for hand starting and was replaced. I believe these issues have been adressed by the manufacturer in the version 2. Despite all the hastle (was partly my fault for buying a second hand engine) I would still say that the machining and overall motor quality is good, this engine has had a hard life but the internals are still in perfect working order with good compession, no big or little end play and good bore. Bearings still perfect. runs very well. Two DLE 30s one new from the bay, one second hand no major issues. All my engines are bought knowing that if I have a issue I will have to sort it out due to me buying cheap and not paying for customer support. But christ these engines are so simple I dont need someone to pull the 3 major components apart and put them together again, if work needs done I will do it. Bearings are availible for $15 dollars locally, dont need to be OEM parts. Chinese engines can be bought from official dealers and provide good customer support if rquired I dont own any high quality engines (for my planes) but im sure the DAs and 3Ws are better machined, with higher tolerances and use better material and have good customer support (if bought full price from a dealer). This is not a chinese engines are better rant, clearly they are not, but some of them are really alot better than what some will have you believe. I have worked with engines all my life and I dont pretend to myself that a $160 dollar engine is as well put together as a $400 dollar engine but christ for the money you get alot of bang for your buck with the RIGHT chinese engine, and in my experience they hold together well enough to be cost effective. I will say though you have to be SELECTIVE about your chinese engine choice as there is some super cheap chinese engines out there that just by looking at the way they are put together/designed they are most likely going to fail fast and are only marketed to get your money out of your pocket and may never run. Go to cheap you prob will get burned, common sense applys, I researched the CRRC before I bought it (came on a model) and knew I would be able to do work on it if requred) if you dont know what you are buying why are you handing your cash over. I will say also if you dont know your little end from your shaft dont buy cheap then complain about customer support when you cant get it running right, if you cant tinker, buy a official engine from a dealer. So thumbs up for DLE, RCGF/RCG and CRRC from me.

RE: rcg 20 vs dle 20
The original post was regarding the RCG engine, I would be carefull to seperate RCG from RCGF. Although it is the same engine the after service is completely different and it would not be fair for RCGF dealers to take critism from people who bought the RCG version cheaper and expect the RCGF dealer to carry out any work/warranty without payment. The RCGF engine has a good warranty and parts are available through the RCGF dealers this is why they cost more, you quite rightly pay for aftercare in the purchase price. The RCG mounting holes are a bit wider between centres, this is a bit of a poor choice from RCG as it does limit muffler choice, would have been nice to keep to a standard size. The RCG comes with a pegusus branded ignition, I have two that came with engines and one I bought from hobbyking for $29 dollars to replace a v1 crrc 26 ignition that had a poor spark. All three ignitions have worked faultlessly and produce a good fat blue spark that is strong. Although not advised they have run on a a123 unregulated battery and have been super reliable, as has my three rcexl ignitions. The timing curve does not have the DLE 20 issue and as far as im concerned is a good choice for replacing the rcexl cheaply.

RE: rcg 20 vs dle 20
Both produce same power, 17 6 xoar 8400 to 8600 rpm. DLE 3 oz lighter, 1 oz 3/4 of that is in the muffler RCG muffler alot bigger and harder to get other mufflers that fit, pitts style for RCG even heavier. RCG runs smoother at idle, has no funny timing unit. More reliable idle. One of my RCG motors is a bit burbly mid throttle, other is perfect, typical chinese carbs, Think you could find the same issue with DLE its just your luck. DLE runns hotter. DLE for me has been harder to get a reliable tune. DLE has a slightly better finnish to parts of it, a slightly better machined engine, both have been reliable. More parts availible for DLE and a warranty No warranty with RCG no matter what hobbyking says. RCG alot cheaper (no warranty though). I honestly dont know what I would buy if I needed a fourth 20cc motor. Prob depend on what I was fitting it to due to the muffler size.

The graupner 15 8 3 is the prop you want, it has a wide blade and is quite efficient unlike a mas. Expect about 8000 rpm from it.

RE: Nitro Models Rutan Defiant
I dowbt if anyone still has one of these models to maiden yet but thought I would add my experience of this model and its COG. I read everything availible on line about this model and knew there was a thrust/balance issue so left mine in its box for two years. Then I seen one fly on youtube I asked the pilot where his cog was and he said 1/2 inch aft of the leading edge of the main wing and to add 1/8 positive reflex to the ailerons. With this information I thought it was time to fly her so I set the cog as above and added the reflex, took her to the field and told everyone there to expect a crash, Well it could have not gone any better. She needed a few clicks down and after that flew like a trainer, cog is spot on at 1/2 inch, thrust lines are spot on as se never climbs on power or dives at idle, floats in at slow speed with ease, its a strange model to see in the sky but flys very well. I rolled, spinned and had her inverted on the maiden. Nice plane with proper cog.

RE: Skybolt hangar and clubhouse
Flew mine again yesterday, really starting to appreciate the way this model flys as my skills grow. This is my third year flying and now my models are spending some time inverted and knife edge, this model holds a line well. Was originally worried I would compromise the model by fitting the 20cc gas engine but with the servos in the rear and no lead fitted the balance point is perfect and the power is just right with a graupner 15 8 3 spinning 8000 rpm, yes it is over powered but not by much, just enough to pull unlimited vertical from hover (I dont spend my time trying to hover this model, I have other models for that, im just trying to give a idea of the power available) and loops as big as you want, throttle back for nice scale flight. I understand a good glow will also be great for this model but for anyone interested in going gas one of the beam mount 20cc gassers out there now does work well on this airframe. May end up 1/2 pound heavier than a glow bolt but the airframe handles it no problem. The longer ailerons were also a good idea, no negatives from his mod that I can find. I have a 1/4 scale pitts with scale ailerons like the standard skybolt should have and it is very "mushy" in slow speed manouvres, my skybolt is far more nimble and precise at this speed due to the larger control surfaces, rolls are still gracefull at speed. Need to add a bit flair to my covering though, on a clear or cloudy day it is not the easiest model to see if it is inverted or upright, will have to add a bit colour to the top of the wings. Glad I have this one in the hanger.

RE: Seagull Yak?
Your use of the bigger engine is a classic example of a bigger engine not always being better. I always try fit as much power to a model as I can but as soon as think I have to add weight to the tail or substantially add weight by major reinforcement to handle the engine I know I have reached the limit of the airframe and rethink my engine choice. The new light 20 cc petrol motors are best suited to this model or a 120 two stroke glow, much more engine than this then you start to reach the point of compromising flight characteristics for all out power. Now your plane is under 12 pounds she sould fly ok, with bags of power but she wont fly as well as a lighter model with a smaller engine, personally I would still not be happy with this set up. I understand sometimes we are restricted by what engine is available to yourself, it would be a expensive hobby if we bought a new engine for every model we built. Having said that I just had a look at the os bgx, looking at the prop choices it seems it would be better suited for a 30 cc airframe, maybe someone else with big glow engine experience could comfirm this. There is alot of nice flying 72 inch wingspan acrobatic models out there that would build about 12 to 13 pounds with your engine and fly much better than the seagull yak with a heavy nose. at least after you have outgrown the seagull yak you have the perfect engine for a new 30cc model Dle 20 is 29 oz with ignition and muffler, uses 8 oz fuel tank and 4 oz ignition battery (optional with battery share), total weight 41 oz OS 35 bgx 47 oz WITHOUT muffler, uses 2 oz per minute so say 24 oz tank, total weight without muffler 71 oz. Prob double the weight of the dle set up when the muffler is fitted.

RE: Seagull Yak?
Cshahrdar if that weight is right its not good news, your yak is way to heavy. I suspect unless you are an experience pilot you will have alot of trouble with this plane at that weight, it will have the wing loading of a war bird. Im not saying it wont fly, but you will need to keep the speed up all the time and will fly fat and heavy. This plane should be between 9.5 and 10.5 pounds depending on engine fitted. My 72 " wing 30cc pilot yak is a good pound lighter than your 62" wing seagull yak!.

RE: new YAK. peak models/redwing/chinese YAK profile.
Make sure you add tri stock where you can to the motor mount as it possibly will shake itself apart. I believe the manufacturer is supplying a bit tri stock and a note to fit it on the latest models. She does fly really well, was expecting loads of power to weight to practice hovering but was not expecting such a great acrobatic performance from this bird but she tracks straighter than anything I have flown, knife edge or inverted, great flying model.

RE: new YAK. peak models/redwing/chinese YAK profile.
If you fit a dle 20 and fit the battery strapped to the wing tube in one of the wings she will be perfectly balanced. Would need to put the model together to check exactly the cog ended up but im pretty sure its about 3/4 inch behind wing tube.

RE: #4 ignition module of DLE20
I have two of the rcg 20 beam mounts and they dont hang at idle anything like the dle 20 I have with stock ignition. I had to swap out the dle 20 ignition as on my 7..5 pound 20 cc profile it was a problem, every time you popped into hover and blipped the throttle it would climb out by itself due to the engine rpm increase. Prob not such a big deal for sports flying though. As for running it fat on the bottom end to help the issue, thats fine if you want a burbly mid range that surges, again no good for 3d. Dle wont ever replace the ignitions that users already own, it would bankrupt them, and im not saying they should btw, but it would be good if they listened to the end user and just suppied new engines with a number 3 ignition. I love the dle 20, just not the ignition. So dle lovers dont get your knickers in a twist.

the new peak/redwing/aerobees yak profile flys really well, it has a big wing at 1050 sq/in and weighs 7 pounds 8 oz dry, designed around the dle 20 and no lead is required to balance. And its cheap in the USA. The down side is its not strong unlike a kit profile, like most arfs one bad crash she will be destroyed. My next profile will be a swanyhouse mojo 65 unless someone brings out another arf that is stronger. Just want to say im in no way linked to the sale of these models. . RE: new YAK. peak models/redwing/chinese YAK profile.
Got this model back to the field again today, have fittted a cm6 spark plug and made sure it was well gapped, I normally fit a cm6 as standard to my gassers but got lazy with this engine. Spent a tank tuning for perfect throttle response and peak rpm then gave the bottom and top end a 16 th extra towards the rich side and flew her again. Well she flew great, amazing in fact, I was worried about this yak having balance/coupling issues compaired to the sbach well I should not have worried this plane flys so well it makes flying easy. She pops into a hover with ease and holds it blipping the throttle 25%, half throttle for pull out as full thottle is just to much! The ease of holding a hover with this model is also a suprise, im used to throwing the sticks everywhere trying to balance a model in the hover, this thing just locks in, very easy. There is no knife edge coupling and the model flat turns with the rudder perfectly, very nice. By far the best flying model I have, very suprising for a chinese effort. I noticed on the flight line waiting for take off that at idle just at a certain rpm the fuel in the tank foamed up completly due to the vibes, this may have been why I had so much trouble finding the sweet spot on the carb tuning as this allowed air into the carb feed line, though the plug replacement seems to have sorted the running I decided when I got home to ditch the solid fuel tank clunk supplied and fit a foam filtered one to help with drawing air due to foaming, I also added a bit isolation to the fuel tank by fitting a bit foam between the fuse and tank, I strongly suggest this is done to increase reliability.
