RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread
ORIGINAL: mesaba Hey, if you go to ebay and search for Hobbyzone Super Cub, there is a store that called Hobb-e-mart that sells the SUper Cub for parts. At the bottom of their listings they have exactly what's wrong with them. Sometimes you can get nearly an entirely new plane for nuthin'. Good luck.
What I was told is Hobb-e-mart 'is' Horizons online store, that's how they get all those returned planes so if Horizon doesn't have it Hobb-e-mart won't either.

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread
Hey guys. It's been a while since I posted so I thought I'd give an update on my SC. It has the stock motor but all the electronics are separates and I added ailerons and a flat wing several months ago and run it on a 3s lipo with a 10x6 prop. My latest mod was to clip the wing by a total of 6.5", 3.25" off each end. That has really made a difference. It handles wind much better now and is naturally more aerobatic now too. I thought it might make it 'twitchy' or sensitive but it actually feels more stable now and on my test flights there was a 8-10 mph wind and it flew like it was calm. To keep the plane looking symmetrical I cut the tail feathers a little too, to remove the rounded sections.
ORIGINAL: ejam I have a question. Has anyone had any problems with screws being too small for the wing latch on the parkzone t28 trojan? I cant fly mine untill I mod the wing latch. It sucks, because this is the way it came new out of the box. I know, just fix it and fly!! But the point is, its brand new and I paid good money for it. Now Im questioning the electonics. Should I change out the servos and rx befor my first flight?[&o]
I haven't had any problems with the hardware or electronics (so far).

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
I think that depends on who made it or where you bought it. I've had warranty issues with a couple things from a couple companies and they never said anything about the connectors being different. I suppose if they want to they can turn it down because it's been modified so talk nice..lol

RE: F-27 Stryker dolly?
A friend made one for his which works well on smooth pavement. He used a couple foam blocks with 2 straight axles and four 2" foam wheels. The blocks are sort of wedge shaped to hold the nose of the plane up a little higher that the tail. Sorry I don't have a picture but it's a real simple dolly.
ORIGINAL: 11Hotel Raz, thanks for the input. I am gonna try it as soon as I finish the nosewheel oleo and mount them to the plane. I'm thinking some kind of damper or something for teh "bounciness". Right now I am using some pretty weak springs and that should help. All in all I am just looking for some energy absorption on landings.
I'm looking forward to hearing how they work.

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
11Hotel . I like your idea but without shocks it might be a little bouncy on landings. I tried bending the stock gear back a little to give it some suspension which did seem to work but if you didn't hit the landing just right it would bounce the plane back up. zestril5 . Glad my idea could help. Since I did mine I haven't had any more problems with the front gear.

zestril5. This will give you an idea of how I made mine stronger. Grind off all the old steering then epoxy (& screw) some plywood filling the entire opening. Then add the DuoBro steering. I really don't want to pull it apart to take a picture but it's like this except plywood instead of plastic.

RE: Art-Tech Decathlon
That's what I was afraid of. I got a TB-20 and it had that problem of way too much aileron flexing because of slop in the torque rods. I know it's made by a different company (Riccs) but I have the feeling they use the same stuff and quality isn't real high on the TB-20 either. I guess for the price of the Decathlon you can't really complain though if it does need some tweaking.

RE: Art-Tech Decathlon
Thanks for the report. That's really too bad about HC not giving you the right battery, I'm sure it would perform better on a lipo. How are the ailerons, do they flex much? My TB-20 had those torque rods and they were not very good, the ailerons could move quite a bit.

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
ORIGINAL: zestril5 I'd like to revist a previous post. It concerns the nose wheel being bent back and cracking the plastic firewall. With as much trouble as we have had with this problem at our field ( at least 5 broken nose wheel problems) I don't understand why no one else seems to be complaining. We can't all 5 of us be worse flyers than all you guys (can we?) ParkZone doesn't sell the plastic bulhead with the steering mechanism separately. To replace it you have to buy the entire fuselage. And so far any fixes we've tried are very temporary. Once it's broken it doesn't take much to rebreak it. Any Ideas or comments??
I had to rebuild my steering but it was my fault that I had to. I put Lock-Tite on the screw not knowing it would east the plastic. Anyway I used the DuBro 1/2A steering kit and some thin plywood. I ground off all the plastic that was for the steering then cut a piece of plywood to fit using epoxy and screws to hold it in place. Then mounted the new steering and it's been fine and has less flexing than it did before.

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
ORIGINAL: toddzhere2 I am having trouble getting my T28 to have smooth rolls. Even at WOT it drops about 10 feet half way through the roll. I have checked the CG. It is at 2" from the leading edge with a 2200mAh Lipo moved all the wy forward. It goes to 2 1/4 if I move the battery all the way back until the canopy won't close. Althoug Horizon has posted that it is 3 1/2 from the leading edge one inch out from the fuselage, mine stock isn't close. The plane flys and land well. In fact, I think I even have about 2 or 3 clicks of down elevator in it at 3/4 throttle. Does everyone have to give it some down elevator in the middle of the roll or is my CG just way off? I guess I am just spoiled by my Typhoon 2. The thing will do about 10 complet rolls and not lose 5 fet of altitude.
You said 3.5" from the leading edge but I believe you mean 2.5". I have mine set at 2.25" from the leading edge now and the rolls are smoother without the drop in altitude and inverted is much easier too. I had to modify the canopy slightly to allow the battery to slide back more then used a foam spacer in the front to keep it from sliding forward but it did help quite a bit.

RE: Art-Tech Decathlon
From what I've heard it's a nice flying plane so you shouldn't have any nasty surprises. I would be upset if I got an NiMh instead of the lipo and demand they send me one. I take it this is your first plane so you might as well learn with ailerons, then you'll be used to steering on the ground with your left thumb and not have to learn that later. It's not going to handle very good using just the rudder anyway because it is an aileron plane so there isn't much dihedral. The biggest problems beginners have is they fly too low and over correct so make small gentle moves on the sticks and make sure to fly at least 2 mistakes high (about 150 - 200 feet). I'll probably order one in a week so keep me informed OK.

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
I got a chance to try it after changing the COG to 2.25" and it does fly nicer. It definitely is more sensitive on the elevator now but a little expo cured that. Flying inverted now is much easier and almost hands off, just the slightest amount of down once in a while to keep her level and the rolls appear to be smoother too. Outside loops are also easier now. It would take adding weight or major butchering to go back more so that's going to have to do. Thanks for the tip on that Tabair.

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
This doesn't make since now. If the COG is supposed to be 2.5" why won't it balance there? Instead it balance at 2" We shouldn't have to alter the canopy or make a new battery mount or add a couple onces of weight to get it to balance correctly so what is the deal? With a different motor I can see it but not stock like mine.

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
That's good to know, I think I'll try that and see but how did you move the COG? I was going to try to move the battery back rather than add weight but the foam block in the canopy won't let it move. At 2.5" back I have to add 13.6g to the tail to level it. That's with the battery slid back as far as it can go. After some trimming of the canopy I was able to slide the battery back 3/4". It balances at 2.25" now so that should be a good place to start.

RE: HELP! My first elec plane??????
The Super Cub is an excellent beginner plane and I highly recommend it. I would not recommend the T-28 as a beginner plane at all. I have one and love it but it's way too fast and not nearly as forgiving. The last thing you want to do is keep crashing a new plane because it's over your skill level.

RE: I'm interested on TB-20 RTF.. question
I recently got one of these and I love it. I bought a PNP version from Philips Workshop in China for $131.00 shipped. For that price it's a very good plane but I would not spend the $219.00 HL wants for it. It flies very well, almost as easy as the PKZ T-28. The thing I didn't like is the torque rods for the ailerons, too much slop. I installed 2 servos into the wing now it's much better. Before the wind would make it change direction too easy now it goes right where I point it. http://www.pw-rc.com/~philipworkshop/index.php/cPath/55?osCsid=dbfd10c3e207b7e4752579a0f9096950
