RE: What if you could only have 3 vehicles?
1.SC10 - Already Have It 2.AE B44 - Soon to Have It 3.HPI E-Firestorm - Already Have it These three allow me to run in three classes and two of them are decent bashers aswell.

RE: SC10 or Slash (read before voting)
With more than 50+ bashing runs and one full day of racing with my SC10 I have yet to have any parts fail. Well not entirely true. I had to replace the differential after bashing it through a 50 ft whoop section on our local Motorcross track. I hate the slipper clutch in any truck so I run them full tight. I did 5 full passes through the whoops at WOT. After another 25min of bashing I heard this grinding noise coming from the diff. A trip to the LHS and $15.00 and I was back in business. I wouldn't expect any truck to handle that kinda abuse and was pleasantly surprised to see the SC10 work so well . My friends on the other hand have had something break on the Slash everytime we have been out. Since they have upgraded to RPM parts no more issues.
ORIGINAL: whipnet Picked up a kit today. Looks great. I'll be starting the build next week. Are there any gotcha's you guys who've built these can tell me? Pretty straight forward build? I've built many kits and I know most have little snags here and there. Any obvious hop-ups I can do right off the bat? The front part of the chassis seems a little weak. I will be going with a Castle Sidewinder BL setup, or the Traxxas VXL system. I've been real happy with that in my Slash. Can't wait to start and thanks in advance for any advice. *
The front steering link contacts the shock tower needed to file it a little. Third one I have seen do this. Shim the rear dog bones or the will click/fall out on full extension/compression of the suspension. File a little of the cross bar on the rear control arm as the outer cup contacts it at full extension of the suspension. Other than that take your time and have fun putting the kit together. I run the CC SW 5700 87T Spur and 16p and temps seem to be around 100-130. More than enough power low and high.
ORIGINAL: Chris_RC I would get the Slash for racing. The SC10 really cant race unless you get a bunch of people with SC10s. Every track has a Slash class.
After running the Slash a few times I opted out for the SC10. My local track has a CORR truck open and CORR truck stock class which both the SC10 and Slash fit into.

They were about 1mm to short on the diff side from installing the c-clip on. I just carry spares and replace them when I rebuild the diff. I couldn't find any better ones right now however I send an email to HPI regarding the issue.
ORIGINAL: 73 If possible, maybe replace those little screws with some button heads or better still, countersunk ones. That will be added security in cases where the truck brushes against something at speed. I've heard of someone breaking some of those screws when running offroad, and it'll suck to have broken screw bits inside the rims.
Good tip which I also thought about but after installing the tires I feel they provide enough protection since the are about 3/8' over the endge of the rim. I've bashed it pretty hard over the week with the rims and have yet to even scratch them. I'm not concerned about them offroad since they are only used in sand and on the road.

You probably moved the motor. Check the gear lash from the pinion to spur gear. If the Firestorm has one down fall it's the crummy gear guard. Use the manual as a guide on how to reset the lash.
ORIGINAL: ArancioC5 rbjeep.......... go watch REAL corr racing. Then watch youtube clips of the sc10 and the slash and tell me which one is more true to what it is trying to portray in mini scale. You will understand my point better, but if you owned a Slash already you would understand right away. Ok imagine Traxxas made a drift car, that did what a drift car should do. AE then came out with thier own version but it went around corners without letting the back out - YET it had JDM spec wheels, body kit, and decals/ tuner decals. IT MAKES NO SENSE! Then people go out and buy the AE car because "it handles better" LOL. ITS SUPPOSED TO HANDLE LIKE A CORR TRUCK PEOPLE, this aint a nascar race. [8|]
lol.....I work at a shop called JJ's 4wd and Offroad Center...wonder what we do? The whole reason I got into RC trucks was cause there's nothing to do in the winter since we can't wheel. Look at Shannon Campbells rigs and the progression of them the SC10 is just progression. It's no different then the trucks a few years ago even longer they were SA now there all IFS.

I think you might have missed the point or maybe I did. I have always viewed Traxxas as a basher product. Cheap reliable and a ton of aftermarket support. I have always viewed Associated as a race product. Over engineered high performance vehicles. That being said after owning a few of each product is why i choose HPI it always seems to be the best comprimise between the two. Will I own a Traxxas Slash or an Associated SC10? Probably both but I will use them as they were intended from what I can see by both companies.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Well went to my LHS today in search for a new truck. While there I decided to try out some bead lock rims to see what would fit without modifying anything. The reason I was looking for bead lock rim was do to the fact I have a set of sand tires and a set of street tires that I just can't justify purchasing two sets of rims for. With the beadlocks I can swap the two sets of tires easily with very little cost and hastle. Here is what I ended up with in the end. The weight seems not to be much different from stock. There is a gasket there. They are like $2.00 for two of them. I find the fluid leaks out of the seal at the diff shaft. I suppose you could use RVT on the housing but really don't see a need to since the factory seal seems to work fine and seems to be re-usable a few times.
