RE: Crashed today
The sim won't help much. I'll be flying most of the time which sounds good, right? wrong. I had one in the past when I flew planes, but they wouldn't let me take it through security becuase they don't know what it is.nor understood when I explained it. Also I will be going to places like wyoming and nevada, charleston s.c, and Berlin germany. where computers will be in short supply and my laptop is too slow to run the sim, only my desktop can. Also I found out that my helicopter is junk except for the muffler. all the electronics melted and it hit so hard that it put a huge crack in the piston part of my engine (a few cm below the head). it's a tangeled mess worse than any crash that I have ever had with it, or my planes before.

(I know this is an old topic, but) The show demo nearly got hit by a french fighter so ithad to move out of it's way when during the manuvers one of the onboard camera men fell onto the throttle quad so it did a nose dive under full power.

RE: Crashed today
The probalem is I won't be up flying anytime soon, I'll be traveling all this summer and school is crazy. so I won't be back in the air till next summer at the soonest. Then I will have to relearn, and with no trainer, that means more crashing.

Crashed today
I crashed and totaled my raptor 30 today on it's 5th flight today. I don't have enough money to fix it or buy a new one. all that's left that works in the engine and the muffer. I cracked the frame right down the center and the whole rotery assembly is a mess with 99% of the screws missing. *This hit the ground so hard that it the fuel tank exploded and it caught on fire, luckily we had an extinguisher in the car so we could put it out. but when it crashed it truely wasn't a cracking sound, but a low "thump" or a "whooomp" sound* so what should I do? thanks, drew Oh yea, I'm not poor, just i'm 13 and learning 3D so my money is mostly spent on nitro and those new CF blades (which got burnt up) *pictures soon to come*

RE: Commanche down!!
Trust me, they didn't just poor money into it. They ran some pretty amazing tests and learned alot from it. Though it was too bad that it didn't reach production phase. 4billion each wasn't that bad for the first two made. Considering a loaded F-22 raptor costs 22billion each setting the record for the most expensive aircraft ever produced. My dad's company Thales Air Traffic Management ( pronounced TAL-ICE)spent well over 70 million on the Universal all weather landing system "UWLS" and came out of it with what they considered "profitable" knowlage and they seemed to think it was worth the time/money. Now that's a French company saying that they thought that their money was worth the time on a product that never even rolled onto the production line/ and or produced a profit [:D] , lol that's pretty rare. (ya I know I'm french and i'll go ahed and admit that we are picky when it comes to the check book [sm=greedy.gif] )

Starts spinning???/ how to balence blades?
Question #1 As soon as my heli gets off the ground it starts spinning rapidly, What could cause this? I tried putting more pitch on the tail rotor but it would just go mad in the other direction??? Question #2 How do you balence your blades? my wood ones seem to be alittle out of balence so I have to practice hovering with my carbon Fibre ones.

How tight should the main blades be?
In the Raptor manual it dosn't tell how tight I should bolt the main blades on, Just the tail rotor. Should I leave it so I can colapse it?

My fuel line broke off the muffler (pic) (rap30v2)
I was just throttling up alittle getting the engine broke in. I ran about 1/3 of a tank through it, after I shut it off. I went up to put some more gas in it when we noticed that the tubing going from the gas tank to the muffler was no longer their. We took it inside for a closer look and noticed that the threding on the tubing was still their but the muffler just had a hole in it???? [sm=confused.gif] I have a pic below. should I buy a new muffler? or is their a way I can fix it? thanks for your time, Drew [image][/image]

also I would recommend going nitro, it costs alot less to repair if you crash, I would check out the raptor 30, or if you have realflight G2 then go with the 50v2.

RE: Is it better to start with a 30 or a 50?
Their is about 20 of them, they fly anything from little .15's to 1/3 scale turbines and just about everything inbetween. They don't really recommend anything because they say their is a + and a - to every heli. Though I was recommened by one pilot/owner to get one of the Raptor series so that is why I am here now looking for the right Raptor. Thanks, Drew

RE: Is it better to start with a 30 or a 50?
So if you are saying that I should get a kit, what kit do you recomend? 20 hours is nothing at all compared to what I used to build (ie: piper cub= 73 hours but it was from a dead all wood kit). I think I might try and go with a used kit that is all ready asembled that is close by, I found it in the RCU clasifieds http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=38167 I guess if something ever went wronge the guys at the field could help me out. also Raptors seem to be pretty expensive compared to the Kysho Used helis of equivilant size? Thanks, Drew

what I think I might try is to buy a used 50 so I don't have the trouble of putting it togeather (I am horrid ar putting things togeather) and also save some money, plus the major things should be pretty tuned up. What do you think about this idea? Just a thought.

RE: How do you...? ASAP
Excuse me?, I know what is asking, and if he does start the helicopter on his own and he messes up resulting in a loss finger then that would be his own fault, injury comes with the experence, I just about lost my finger to a .60 "Somthing Extra" yet I still fly it, If you are too afriad to get hurt then you shouldn't be flying. I would tell you but I don't fly helis yet my self. If no one here tells you then just go over and try the nice people at www.scalerchelis.com they will tell you, they know that if you get hurt then it is only from your own stupidity or fault no matter what the AMA says. ,Drew

RE: What are servos?
Sounds like you need some help getting off the ground, well what I would do is find someone at your flying field that flys helis, he can usually train you on a buddy box and sometimes for free depending on how nice he is, usually after yu are finished learning to fly and you are an accomplished flyer you start looking for your own heli, most of the time your instructor knows somebody that is selling their raptor 30 or some other 30 size heli (used) but it would be all tuned up and ready for you to fly. so look for someone at your field that is selling their raptor 30 and most of the time they will give you a good deal on it too. Good luck flying, Drew

Ch-53 sea stallion
Does anyone know of any ch-53 bodies in the .30 .50-.60 and .90 range, I haven't seen any in all my searching. Also would it be possible to get a 6 bladed rotor head? that would be awesome. Another neat thing would be if you could drive a little Rc car up into it! But I don't know how that would happen with the mechanics right their. may need to start from scratch on this one. Thanks, Drew

LOL, nice thought, If it catches on fire then the fuel tank might have time to blow and you have yourself one expensive fire cracker. Or you could just not blow it up and save the money.

RE: best under $300
Electric is more Expensive but has a shorter flight time. with Nitro you can just fill up another tank but with Electric you have to charge the battery wich for most people that means having to go home and plug it in to a wall outlet. Just thought I would tell you what I have observed.

RE: high wing cessna versus
the F-15 isn't high wing lol. nor an F-22, F-35 or P-61. Who ever thought they were needs to take a look at them. A high wing means it goes OVER the Fusalage. In all those aircraft stated none of their wings are over the Fusalage. Those aircraft are (mid wing) like the B-25. The only high wing fighter that I know of is the cessna 337. And it wasn't really even a fighter, it was a FAC (Forward Air Controller) dirrecting the F-4's in Vietnam. Might want to take a look at some of those aircraft before stateing a fact. I can't belive someone actually stated that the F-15 had an over head wing. LOL
