RE: New OMP Fusion .90 Size
Hello Smallfly, Yep, I went back and found the thread and it was your airplane that was the inspiration for my scheme. I did simplify with stripes instead of solid tips on wings and stab. Glad to hear that your Fusion is still alive. Thanks for the idea! JC
ORIGINAL: SMALLFLY- Man Im gonna have to go out in the garage and see if my fusion is still there[;)]
Jose, Thanks, and that is good news. The weight came out very low. I'm hoping that it will fly like a big, noisy, smokey, foamy! New OMP Fusion .90 Size
Hello All, Finally finished my 67" Fusion. Had it all framed up in a couple weeks and then it sat more than a year while I got into helicopters. The scheme is a lot like one that I saw on RCU two years ago - although I simplified it so I could actually finish the project. The power is a Saito .91 and it has Hitec analog servos and a 6V RX pack. The all-up-weight is a lot lighter than I thought at 6 pounds, 6 ounces. I was expecting 7+ pounds. I really enjoyed building the kit. Mike has really engineered this kit well, and I have to say that the wing is the best that I have ever assembled. Bravo! I'm looking forward to flying this ship. But it won't fly for a while since we are in a deep freeze here in Michigan. Best regards, JC www.rippinfoamies.com

Very nice! I like the covering scheme. Mine is half covered, and it will stay that way until we get some outdoor flying weather here in Michigan [:o]. JC
ORIGINAL: dprater Got my Fuison 90 in the air last Sunday. Was a easy and quick build love to build OMP's, they just keeps getting better with there designs. This is my third OMP plane and I agree with everyone this is another winner. It flys in the wind better that my 65" YAK (still like my YAK tho). My rolling harries look better that ever with this plane and a great knife edge spin, fuse was flat on the waydown. Ye ha OMP = fun Like to share a couple pic.
Andrew, I enjoyed your demo of the OMP Fusion. I have one in the bones now and was wondering..."is that rudder big enough?" I watched you roll the bottom side of a loop so I think that the answer is "yes." [:D] JC

Got 'dem bones done! So far all I have to say is bravo, Mike Pilkenton! The engineering, laser cutting, assembly techniques, and wood selection have been very impressive. The wing is the best I have ever built and the tail feathers build themselves. Now on the the hard part...choosing a covering scheme. [:@] JC

RE: OMP Fusion F3D 90
I can't recommend the Futaba 3010. I had one in my UcanDo on the rudder and it centered so badly the rudder would oscillate around neutral. Poor centering coupled with a long servo arm caused this. If I was buying new servos I think the best economy solutin would be the Hitec 635 HBs. JC
ORIGINAL: tmproff I think I'm going to go for : (2) Futaba 3010 - 90 oz torque @ .16 sec for the ailerons - $24 each (2) HS 645MG - 133 oz torque @ .20 sec for rudder / elevator - $31 each (discount) This adds up to $113.96 + shipping Can you mix digital servos with analog? Hey, nice no-hands torque roll! The AMA recommends that you not catch the airplane like that - it is not in agreement with the safety code. [:D] Congrats on the maiden flight. JC
ORIGINAL: UltimateFlyer12 I just returned from my Fusion's maiden flight. WOW! I was worried about the weight I'm right around 8 lbs. RE: OMP Fusion F3D 90
Hello All, I have a Fusion in the works as well. A couple of days work is shown below. This is my first time with a foam core fuse since the OMP Katana kit that I built is all wood. It was a learning experience, especially the polyU glue. The nail-biting is over and the skin bonding turned out great. The fuse weighs right at 18 ounces right now. Bag 'o servos, battery, leads, and engine is 2 lbs, 1-ounce. So I have 3.5 lbs for the wings, tail feathers, RX, wheels, and covering to stay at 7 lbs. The wings are next and they look like an easy and fun build. Later, JC

RE: OMP KatanaP Kit Build-Along Thread!
Hello, I just wanted to post a little mod that I made to the KatanaP that is making for some fun experimentation. I put tip plates on my Funtana 40 and it greatly improved the high-alpha wing rock by cutting down the amplitude of the oscillations by at least 50%. A stunning result on the Funtana was that the tip plates greatly improved the knife-edge flight which is lacking on the design. I thought that I would try the same on the KatanaP to see what would happen. My KatanaP has a better upright high-alpha (HA) than the Funtana, but can still do a little wing rocking depending on AOA. It is a cheap and easy mod so I went for it. I used 1/32" aircraft plywood and covered it with matching Ultracote. I then screwed them to the tips. The plate design is basically 1cm greater than the tips with max thickness carried to the trailing edge. I only have three flights since the mod in not-so-great conditions. The HA seems to be improved. In addition, the knife-edge is a little better as well - and it was world class to begin with. More testing is needed. JC
ORIGINAL: Super D BTW I have a OS 46 AX with a 12x4 apc on it. 12x6 was too fast, and a 13x4 was too much for the 46AX. I think and hope this plane will out perform my H9 Twist. I would love to put a YS 63 on this bird but from what a hear/read it will vibrate the heck out of it. The OS works fine i just wanted to be able to prop to a 14x4.
I have the Katana kit. It has a 46" wingspan and different wing design than the Accel Katana. I run a 12.25x3.75 APC prop and it works better than a wood 12x4. Adequate pitch speed and excellent static thrust. I also used the Tower Hobbies .46 muffler. It is an excellent hop-up for $15.00. JC

To shim or not to shim? OMP KatanaP
Hi Guys, I am quickly getting comfortable with my KatP kit plane. I shimmed a little right thrust in when I built it - just out of reflex I guess. The wild thing is that I was starting low-level torque-rolling yesterday and she wanted to torque to the right not the left. Yep, it was spinning in the same direction as the prop[X(]. This freaked me out to the point where I had to hold left aileron to get it to roll in the familiar direction. All I can think is that it is the right thrust - what do you think? Thanks, JC
