Mark, Well, I hope we don't have to wait another 5 years, to find out how it worked out!! [:D] I haven't flown in two years - I'm now pretty absorbed in my [link=http://www.crbest.com/testone.swf]My '51 Ford[/link], which you can see by clicking on the link. Good luck, keep me posted! I'm sure someday I'll get back into the planes, but not right now... Roger
ORIGINAL: Geistware I remember when the north field flooded. The water was at the roof of the shed when I saw it. Some said it was over the rooftops.
Yup, sure was! The whole field, golf course and all, was one big lake. I have some pictures someplace. Nah, there was virtually NO bank to fly a Catalina from...just WAY too much water! R

RE: New Moderator
Tam - a Pole Barn is a metal sided barn, that uses 6" X 6" poles for the uprights on the sides. then uses 2" X 4" purlings for the rest of it. It makes for a wide-open space, plus it's an economical way of building...here is a like to see what one looks like:[link]http://home.earthlink.net/~rickob/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/000_0066.jpg[/link] The end isn't done, but you can see the construction. Mine has a cement floor, and a radiant tube heater, as well as a bathroom, complete with an auto-flush urinal. I'm really proud of it, in case you can't tell!! [:D] Roger

RE: New Moderator
Tam....we will ALWAYS fly, no matter what the circumstances! I am really loving the park flyers - I used to fly a little 1 foot by 1/2 foot flyer, in the lot that I built the pole barn in...miss the field, but appreciated the barn!!!! People who want to fly will find a way, no matter what it takes...I flew in a 1/2 gymnasium, to a big crowd...but I flew in a 200 acre field, as well. I will fly anything, anytime. I fust love to fly!!! Fly on, buddy, fly on!!! Saying al lthat, I have followed the UK as far as their regulating planes - I like the idea of the equivalent of the FFA governing it. I would LOVE to fly a 1/2 scale Cub, or any other plane!!!! And I would be safe. Wow, what an opportunity!! Roger Roger

RE: New Moderator
Wow, a blast from the past - over 5 years! I'll try to answer the questions... Tam - I was one of the first hundred or so members. I took on the role of moderator, for numerous forums, because there just weren't that many people involved. It took a LOT of time, which I gladly spent. It was basically trying to answer questions, when the membership didn't, stopping fights before they started, and making sure people posted appropriately. I enjoyed doing it! I even went to the Toledo show, and met the original "owner", and had a blast. I did the Mod duties for several years, before I just didn't have the time anymore, what with a teenage daughter, and life in general. When I "resigned", I was dropped like a hot potato! I didn't expect any payment, but it would have been nice to have received at least a complimentary "Platinum" membership, a "Thank You", or SOMEthing after two years and countless hours doing the duties for free....you have to be dedicated, and ready to be kicked to the curb, when you get "burned out"... As for the garage, I gave it over to my wife, after she graciously allowed me to build a 28' X 40' heated Pole Barn. Gotta love it!! Now I have enough room, if I ever finish getting it organized (don't tell HER, but I STILL have a dozen or so planes, hidden in HER garage!!). Geist - yes, that is the field I learned to fly on back in '89. Jerry Dillman was my main instructor, although a few others had a hand in it. You probably know a few of the local club members - the Lafayette Cloud Jockeys. I am a past-president. That is now called the "north field", as the club also has use of a full-scale landing strip in a plane-based housing tract about 20 minutes south of town. I haven't flow there, but have been there, and it's really impressive. That's the "south field". It's a little far for me, so I drive 7 miles to a buddy with a flying field cut into 40 acres. 360° flying!! The Wabash has flooded badly in the last few years - I think 2 or 3 years ago, we could only fly at the north field 3 or 4 weeks all summer, that's why they pursued the south field. I haven't been a member of the Jockeys for about 4 years. Not when I would only fly at their field once every 2 or 3 years... Roger

RE: SAD DAY AT LHS-CYFAIR HOBBIES
ORIGINAL: daveopam Jim, Mike's models is in OKC. His shop is just north of the intersection of NW 10th and May Ave. on the West side. It's 100 miles from my house to the shop. Not a run I make everyday. We have a tight club though. When one of us is going to Mike's we call and get a list from every body. He also supports our club events every year. I don't think he has missed our fall Fun Fly in 12 years. For him to drive the 100 miles each way and bring his 40% planes to fly is above and beyond. I think that's what it takes to gather and keep loyal customers. david
Wow, small world - I hail from Indiana, but go to school for work, in Norman OK for a few weeks to few months every summer...Mike's South is by far one of the BEST inventoried Hobby Shops I have ever been in! If he has one of something, he has 20 of them. And there are very few things he doesn't have. Our LHS has zip-point-squat!! I went in for 10X6 props, not a one in the place - nor was there any CA, and the wood is just the dug-through leftovers over the last 10 years. Wouldn't put a single piece in any of my planes. Mike's was VERY refreshing! And while you are there, visit Mike's North. It's up the road a piece (don't know the addy, just how to get there). It's owned by Sean McMurtry's dad. Also has quite a bit, but it's been there for a long time, and has a lot of old (antique??) stuff in there, you can spend an afternoon just looking, and listening to the old-timers that meet there. Of course, they also meet at Mike's South, so overall, it's a pleasant experience. You can also visit the Realm of Hobbies, in Moore, just before you get to OKC, they also are very well stocked, at least with ALL the staple. I don't walk out of either Mike's South or Realm, without spending at least a $100 bill, usually a lot more! R

RE: Hangar 9 80" Cap Rerelease?
Yes, it was...he mentioned he had picked it up in a trade somehow, and I knew they were like hen's teeth to find. I really like the 1.20 size H9 Cap I have, but saw the 27% last summer, in the hands of a good pilot. Man, what a graceful plane! Knew I had to have one, so was keeping my eye out for one. I had an Aeroworks Profile Extra go in last fall, just broke in half, and had the Moki 2.10, same as my buddy had on his, just sitting, didn't sell here on RCU, so it's working out well. I used to build at least 4 or 5 planes a year, sometimes a LOT more, sold a bunch, but this year so far I have sold 2 kits, and bought 2 planes "ready to fly", and this ARF. Not sure if I'll ever go back to building like I was - just never seemed to have time to fly. So from now on, I'm going to fly, instead of stick-build. Now, if I can get as good a deal on servos.... I seem to remember seeing a Sig Four Star 120, that had a Homelite conversion on it, also - not sure if it was the 25cc or the 30cc, though, but if I recall, it was the 25cc. They fly very well, and land like a butterfly. I'll see if I can dig up a picture of it - it's been several years.... R

RE: 1/4 Scale Cub color scheme vote
Okay, now I understand.... I had visited supercub.org several times, spent hours in the galleries. Didn't really see anything that appealed to me, although some I had already seen, that I liked, were in there as well. Such a tough call, I know - that's why I narrowed it down to 4 that I really liked, and two others. I'm really unsure about the flames, for two reasons - the cowl is not original, or at least doesn't look like it. I would assume someone replaced the engine, and the cowl had to be larger. And, I just feel flames and Breitling would be more suited to a modern aerobatic plane - Edge, Extra, etc, not a Cub. I allowed some friends to talk me into it, and it's getting a lot of votes. Time will tell... Just ANYthing but YELLOW!!! [sm=tired.gif] r

1/4 Scale Cub color scheme vote
Hi all, I am nearing completion of a 1/4 scale Piper Super Cub. Two years in the making! Now, I am undecided on a color scheme. I have narrowed it down to six that I really like a lot. So, being a good-natured indecisive guy, I decided to put it to a vote. I have built a webpage, where you can go and put in your 2 cents worth. It's easy, once you decided on a scheme, click the email link below the picture. It will open up an email in your email program, with the subject line of the plane you choose. You can add comments, they would be appreciated. Just click "send", and your vote will be added. I am keeping a running total at the bottom of the page. So, if you can spend a few minutes of your time, it will be greatly appreciated! Click here to vote: [link=http://www.crbest.com/supercub]Vote for Cub Color Scheme Here![/link] Thanks! Roger

RE: Small, Cheap 25cc kit?
ORIGINAL: Tomcat_AL200 I recently got a 25cc weed wacker motor that works great and so I was wondering if there are any cheap, small, hopefully inexpensive kits out there that will preform well on the 25cc motor. I was thinking some of the Dynaflte kits, like the PA-18 or the Fly Baby if they were still in production. Thanks.
The Dynaflite PA-18 is indeed out of production - really a shame! I started one in '02, had to put it away for a while. Fuse was done, and I had the bottom sheeting for the wing joined. Hanger rash at the wing bottoms. Took me forever to find some wings, but Ebay came through! I have the Homelite 25cc on it. Looks like it is going to balance perfect. If you aren't in a hurry, I would keep watching RCUniverse, or Ebay, for a kit. Goes together well, and it might be worth your wait. BTW, I am trying to determine a color scheme for it. I have a website set up for "voting". If you can spend a minute or two, please check it out, and vote for your favorite.
ORIGINAL: CAPtain232 David, I have asked this question many times with different manufacturers.... They all say NO CHANCE. They say this only because it is too time consuming to work up an instruction manual.
Hey, Jeff, how'ya doin'? I would be more inclined to believe it's because the actual laser cutting of the kit from cad plans, etc, done overseas, would not change the price very much, since the equipment used is going to cost pretty much the same everywhere. Sure, there'd be a LITTLE savings since the help is a little cheaper, but it's probably surpassed by the transportation cost to the US. However, the construction of the ARF, by MUCH lower paid labor, is where the profit is! Lessee...I can get a kit cut here for $100, there for $90...have it put together by Americans for $300, sell it for $500, and make $100...or have it put together over there for $100, sell it for $450, and make $260....
