RE: RCV120sp question for Keith from Keith
I believe someone asked this before but it wasn't fully answered. I am about to mount one in a TopFlite Bonanza. The Bonanza nosewheel is offset to starboard. I would like the exhaust exit on the port side so I have more room to route the exhaust internally without conflicting with the nosewheel mount or cowl. I guess the first observation is about that crankcase vent. It looks like it must be mounted close to the bottom so oil doesn't build up in the crankcase. What tolerance can be applied to the mounted orientation of the crankcase vent? In my experience there is no restriction on the orientation of the vent, only that the vent hose be as short as possible and of the largest diameter practical. Second question is whether you can separate the cylinder assembly from the crankcase and rotate it 180 degrees so the exhaust is on the right, carb on the top and vent on the bottom - all looking from the front. Can the timing be maintained? The cylinder can be rotated to any of 4 rotational positions, but the gears must be timed as described in the owner's manual. Answers much appreciated soonest - I am at engine mount stage right now! Happy Flying!! RE: RCV 91CD full throttle problem
ORIGINAL: pauser98 I have a RCV 91CD engine with the following problem. This engine almost always starts at first kick, idles at 2,300 with 14x6 Master Airscrew prop and Omega 15%. Throttle advance from idle to 3/4 throttle is smooth and rpm reaches 8,900 at this point. But from 3/4 throttle to full throttle, the engine splutters and rpm drops to 5,500 and remains there. The high end needle is set up 1 1/2 open. Closing it by 1/4 will not get the rpm up. Neither does opening it by 1 to 2 turns. I notice 8,900 rpm is the RCV specifications for this engine and prop combination. Chris
Hi Chris, The CD series uses standard props so your prop selection is right on. Try leaning the high speed needle until the enginse smooths out at peak RPM. Our records show that 1 turn is about right but it does vary somewhat, about 1/8 turn either way in practice. To check the setting, briefly pinch the fuel line and look for an approx 200 RPM increase before it quits to be sure you are not too lean. Follow the owners manual instructions from there. If that does not work, contact me directly for more assistance. How to install Rubber Duck on 9Z Tx ?
Has anyone installed a Smiley Rubber Duck antenna on a Futaba 9Z Tx ? Thanks, BJ

Rubber duck antenna installation
Hi Guys, Sorry to cry about my petty problem, but, I'm thinking that I may not be the only one with it! I have the Smiley Antenna rubber duck antenna on several of my Futaba tx's and they work great! I started using the "ducks" for Q500 pylon racing. It eliminates the "sword fighting" that pilots can experience during a heat!....with the regular telescoping stock OEM antennas. The ducks worked well and were so convenient, that I started using them for other forms of flying with equally good results. I just bought another duck for my Futaba 9Z tx and find that it's not easy to install on this specific tx. The 9Z has a swivelling antenna feature and everything's hidden behind the main circuit board. It looks very complex in there and I'm fearful of losing model data if I continue to take thing apart. I've stopped the installation hoping to find some help. Smoley can't help and an internet search has been unproductive even with dealers who sell the product. I don't expect Futaba to be any help with this so I haven't contacted them. I'm hoping someone reading this has installed a rubber duck on their 9Z and can give me some guidance. I was thinking of Radio South but don't want to send out the tx if not necessary. I know this is a grope in the dark, but I'm banking on the power of the internet! I've helped others so now I'm in need! I would be happy to make the long-distance call if a fellow R/C'er who's done this installation would be kind enough to help. Thanks and Happy Holidays, Safe and Happy Flying!! Bill Jensen, rcbill62

RE: quadra 50 dead stick on vertical upline
I suspect one of the following conditions may be causing the problem; In light of the fact that you bought the engine used, you don't know the history, age or maintennce of the engine. Based on my experience, I would try: 1. Check your tank's clunk to be sure it's toward the rear of the tank. You can do this most easily with a syringe (Sig 5oz syringe). Just draw fuel out of a half-full tank, then tip up the model and draw the fuel again and watch for air bubbles in the fuel line. Do this at the fuel line where it connects to the carb. Bubbles indicate that the clunk is not in the fuel or there is an air leak in the line. Remove the tank and check all the plumbing in tank and line up to the carb. The Du-bro filler valve is a notorious air-leaker; a better choice is a "Fuel Dot". 2. The carb pump and regulator become brittle over a couple years of storage. When that happens the pump diaphram in the Walbro carb becomes stiff and will not respond adequately to the crankcase pressure pulses and will not overcome the gravity head effect caused by lifting the nose of the plane. The pump just can't pump the fuel that high. The solution is to install a carb diaphram kit. 3. The carb screen may be plugged with debris. To check it, remove the pump cover (the single-large-screw side of the carb) and clean the screen if req'd. Hope this helps. Bill Jensen, BJ's Model Engine Service. www.bj-model-engines.com

JR 10X programmable mix problem!
JR 10X programmable mix problem! I'm using pmix3 to link 2 servos for separate elevator halves. The mix is elev to aux 4. The Aux 4 Sx has a delay in it's responce to a rapid elevator stick movement! The Sx on the Elev channel does not! This is my first time working with the 10X. My experience is with the 9Z. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Thanks for your time.
