RE: 1/10 RC Formula 1 Cars...lets see'em
Hello just sharing my F104. As much as I like realistic paint jobs, it is getting confusing to race against similarly painted Ferraris and McLarens :D [image]http://www.rccartips.com/tamiya-f104-concours-tac-2011.jpg[/image]

RE: old engine
Hi, Try the following: 1. Put in a new glow plug. See if problem persists. 2. Try to make the setting richer. 3. Check for air leaks. Hope you get it working. Joel

RE: currious about how many times batteries can be used
try my site at www.rccartips.com/rc-car-battery-tips.htm scroll down to the bottom of that page to download a PDF document about batteries. In general batteries will lose a lot of power after 4 years, irregardless of whether they are used a lot or not. Hope you find what you are looking for. Joel M. RE: motor problem
Maybe your motor brushes have worn out to the point that it is not pressing tightly against the commutator. Try replacing the brushes and see what happens. Joel M. RCCarTips.com www.rccartips.com

RE: Speed Tuned Gears for the TL-01
As long as your TL-01 has full ball bearings you will not have any problems running an 11 turn motor w/ the speed tuned gear set. I have done in before in racing, and the car was very fast. Put on a set of high grip slick tires and you are set. Start with the lowest pinion, maybe a 19 and see if the commutator discolors or the engine runs too hot (run time should be at least 4 1/2 minutes on a 1700 battery pack.

RE: give a newbie a hand
For sealing air leaks, use a high-temperature automotive gasket sealant. Mine has a reddish color. Make sure it is high temperature sealant. I once used a sealant that simply melted in the high heat of a nitro motor, causing air leaks. For antenna wire, find one that is very similar in thickness to your receiver antenna wire. Also make sure the length is the same as the original.

RE: Shaft or belt?
Hi, Just my personal opinion Belt - Seems to have more friction than shafts, better handling in corners, lighter overall weight, less rotational mass, more maintenance. Shaft - Less rolling resistance, seems to be loose in corners, more rotational mass, less maintenance. Have fun. Joel

RE: New to R/C cars. Many questions
Hi, Afterrun oil - I have used brands designed for rc car engines and also WD-40. I prefer the special afterrun oils, because the WD-40 seems to leave a sticky feel over time. I use afterrun after playing and before storing the car. Failsafe - I use a cheap futaba fail safe, works fine, but remember fail safe will not help should your receiver batteries die out. Set the fail safe so that your car will brake during radio interference. I have seen a gas car go out of control, fly over the railings and fall 5 stories to a roof of a real Toyota car. Police came, etc. so it is a good idea to use a fail safe. Receiver batteries - Depends on the brand, good alkalines should last around 50 minutes. Only experience with the batteries you are using will tell. But a soon as you feel you are losing control (e.g. steering becomes sluggish) stop the car and replace the receiver batteries. Also check your transmitter batteries. Hope this helps. Joel

RE: Mod Motor Questions
Hi ChrisE, How much maintenance depends on your budget. For club racing, cut the commutator and replace brushes after 3 - 5 runs. For playing, follow the specs of the brush (e.g. 10 - 30 runs). It is a good idea to cut the comm and replace the brush at the same time. Good luck.

RE: Electric motors
Hi, Trinity and Reedy are well know brands for electric motors, you cannot go wrong with either of them. I have used budget motors from Trinity, they are very good. The "Trinity Monsters of Touring 11T Double Motor" can be used in a bandit, but may have too much power. Just remember to gear down (use a much smaller pinion gear) to prevent overgearing and destroying the motor. You also need a high quality electronic speed control to handle this motor. For the bandit, I would stay in the 13 - 16T range... Good luck!

RE: Are all motors of the same Turn / Wind the same?
Hi, Maybe you overgeared your motor. Not breaking in would not do damage except maybe to the brushes and commutator. But melted plastic and smoking motor usually means the motor is having a hard time rotating (binding in car's transmission, overgearing, etc.). All the best.

Faster
Hello, Try using light oil for the gears. Grease creates a lot of friction compared to oil. You can also lighten the car by drilling holes in the chassis (but I do not recommend it, you will ruin the looks of your car). Also, break in the motor properly. Good luck.

whats better XXX-NT or RC10GT
I would go for the RC10GT because of durability and simple design (ease of maintenance).

TXT cheaper in Japan?
Went to Japan Feb 2003, disappointed that the tamiya kits were not that much cheaper. But I did find the spare parts such as tires a bargain.

Engine Trouble
Maybe the low end setting is too rich. Try a leaner low end setting.

Nitros are faster for the buck
If you are going to spend the same amount of money, the nitro car will be faster than the electric car. To make an electric car faster: $batteries + $motors + $motor maintenance + $speed controller =$$$$ To make a gas car faster: $tuned pipe + $good motor + 25%fuel = $$$

NTC3
Team Associated Nitro TC3. 50+ mph is good, but at the sacrifice of acceleration. I have more fun with a car that has a faster acceleration than the ultra fast top speeds.

Engine sound
For me, if the engine sounds like it is running out of breath, hollow, wheezing, then I know it is lean. If it is rumbling, powerful throaty sound, then it is rich or good. Better yet, check for tons of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. More means rich setting, less or non means too lean.
